The Pool V4 in Cubase 12
hello everybody andrew blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we are moving on to our fourth video as we discuss the pool in cubase 12. but before we start i want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future i'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or cubase plugins or the cable guys shaperbox2 and many many other projects that are in the works then i know you're going to find just like i have that this is an invaluable study aid and the other thing i want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple pdf this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free okay so let's get started so we're on the fourth video now as we've been moving through all these features in the pool as a reminder all the previous videos are in the navigation guide and link below organized to get to easily first let's just talk about a simple option to be aware of there are so many times where you will find yourself opening a project in cubase and it'll hit you with something is missing and that may or may not be an essential file it could just be housekeeping to be honest sometimes first there's a line of attack on that let's open the pool control p and when you go to the pool if you right click anywhere you will have the option down in the list here to remove the missing files and if there are missing files or if it you know thinks there's files that are missing and you click that you'll have the option to again just remove them from the pool or whatever option comes up don't erase them but anything you know putting them in the trash or just removing them from the pool or whatever happens that way bottom line if you do anything short of erasing them you're good to go go ahead and close your pool down save your project close it down and reopen it if everything opens up without a problem plays okay and the missing files are not an issue anymore you can move on your problem is solved you have various ways of auditioning files in the pool the way i have mine set up right now is if i have the pool window open but i hit my space bar on the keyboard [Music] the project in the background on the actual project window but you also have this option if you're interested or this works for you if you go up to edit down to preferences scroll down this long list of stuff until you find the option that says transport and then look up in this right area there's an option that says playback toggle triggers the local preview if i check that i'm going to apply it okay now when i pick a file like this base i can hit my space bar to turn it on or off [Music] so it really depends on whether that's works for you or convenient or not when that option is set then i have to get rid of my pool window to play my project if i open my pool window back up the minute i hit a file now when i hit my spacebar only the local file will play so just a preference we already talked about the other way is go up to this audition playback button hit that and that will play your file you have a loop if you want it hitting that button again stops the file and then as we said you can click right on these actual pictures of the audio if you do that to stop it you have to go back to the audition and turn it off again one interesting thing about this loop feature which isn't obvious if that's set up when you hit a file and it's going to play but when you hit one of these pictures it starts from wherever you hit it but that's where the loop will go in other words if i click this towards the end of this picture it's going to go from that end and then it's going to continue to loop from that end point so that's kind of interesting depending on where you actually click on the picture we've said before that if you hit the little wave at the beginning of the name of the file it actually opens up in the sample editor which allows you to easily change the snapping point but another thing that will happen is if we are using those regions like we talked about let's say i make a little region of this amount and create that region maybe a little region here now i can actually also on that clip not only open the wave form in the sample editor i can actually open these particular regions in the sample editor as well by double clicking on them you have the option to import files if you need something into the project you have the import button click on that guy just find whatever you're looking for click on it and then that becomes part of the pool as well you also have the option when you hit the import button to audition your samples previous to importing them if i select something i can go down to the right here and play it then if i want to import it i can you have some specific import options if you just right click where it says import medium that can do the same thing we just did you also have one that says import the audio cd which takes you right to what whatever cd drive you may have and then you have one import the pool so if you've made a pool back up somewhere you actually can import those as well one nice feature on this import from the audio cd is you actually can pick out specific tracks that you want and just import those and there you go more tips on the pool what a great little tool to have when working with audio clips as always if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that from the link below because it has links to all its content ever growing and free to use and it's there to help you study and review this stuff the pool all kinds of great options for using audio files importing audio files making regions just all kinds of great stuff great to have you guys here we'll see you on the next video
