we're on this discussion of thecontrol room as usual the previousvideos and all videos for this channelare in the navigation guide in the linkbelow but let's start out on today'sdiscussion talking about some of thedifferent kinds of channels so in orderto get into this I'm going to go up tothis menu that says Studio up on top I'mgoing to come down to the thing thatsays Audio Connections click on that andthere's a couple of ways to access thevarious different kinds of channelswe're going to talk about what they arebut let me show you this first of all wehave a context menu so if I right clickin this area I get this screen and itshows add external inputs add TalkBackadd Q add headphones add monitor theseare the things we want to talk about andlearn what is this stuff and what doesit mean if I go up to the top herethere's also an option that says addChannel and that gives me all the stuffas well one of the things you want tounderstand when we're doing this allthis stuff is going to be tied into andlimited by and related to what yoursound card can do my particular soundcard only has four outputs so if I hookup or try to hook up something here thathas surround sound with seven differentoutputs I'm basically not going to beable to achieve such a thing on theother hand if your sound card has 16different outputs or maybe more thenyou're going to be able to do a lot ofdifferent things but let me give you acouple of examples of some actualscenarios here let's talk first aboutthe monitor when we're dealing withmonitors we're basically talking aboutwhat speakers are you hooked up to andhow do you want to hook up to thosespeakers so again I have a simplescenario I just have a stereo set ofspeakers and my sound card only has fouroutputs so on this first monitor that Ihave here it shows left and right andit's going to the left and right of mysound card how did I get this on thescreen well let me show you if I rightclick here and I go down my contactslist at the very bottom it says add amonitor and if I click on that I'm givena monitor which I can rename it it'sjust called monitor 2 right now but nextto that I have this drop down list andthis list is long I can create monostereo different kinds of surround andif I go to the bottom there's even morewith all kinds of different speakerconfigurations let me create anidentical one to the one I've alreadycreated here first so I'll leave thename monitor to I'm going to go to thisone that says stereo so I'm going totake the stereo option and I'm going tohit OK and has now created this secondthing here that's called monitor two andif I hit the little triangle next to itit expands it and shows me that formonitor 2 I have a left and a rightoption and if I move over here to thedevice board it says not connected nowthere's a couple of ways to fill in allthis information let me show youscenario one if I go to this Centerplace it says audio device and if I godown to mine right now it says notconnected if I go ahead and click on thenot connected it actually shows notconnected and it shows my particularsound card or at least the actual driverfor the sound card if I go ahead andclick on that it takes its best shot atfiguring out what outputs I've alreadyused which ones I have left and justgoes ahead and fills out this area thatsays the device Port I can now click onthis device port and it actually showsme all the connections that I have on mysound card so if I have some differentspeakers I would rather go to I can justclick those and select those insteadwhat you have to pay attention to onthis list is that it lists informationin red and in black the black means it'snot being used yet it's available youcan just click on it no problem at allmeaning your sound card has this youknow know ports or speaker outputs orwhatever they're available and you canuse them on the other hand the red onesare telling you you've already assignedthose to something like for me in myexample my first monitor is already setup going to my speakers so if I go downhere and I check one of these red onesit's going to turn off my originalconnection and set up this newconnection so you want to be carefulthat you don't steal a connection thatyou need for something else now let's dosomething really crazy fancy here let meright click on this again go down to adifferent monitor we'll leave thedefault name that it gives us monitorthree but let's go to the drop down I'mgoing to go all the way down to the7.1.4 total surround sound setup clickon that so that's assuming I have awhole bunch of speakers and a wholebunch of outputs on my sound card I'mgoing to say okay and again it creates athing that says monitor three but now ifI open this one up by hitting thislittle Diamond it gives me all thesepossible connections left right centerlefts around right surround in otherwords I need speakers and connections onmy sound card to even take advantage ofthese Cubase has it all here it'salready Auto populated and giving me theoption for something this elaborate butif I don't have a sound card to takeadvantage of it it's not going to do meany good but let's go ahead and do thesame thing I did before where I'm notconnected I'm going to click on thatit's going to show me my driver for mysound card I'm going to click on thatbut because my sound card only had twopossible outputs left it could only fillin those last two outputs on the leftand right channels all the rest of theseremain not connected if you try one ofthese things and they don't work you canjust right click on them there's anoption at the bottom it allows you toremove these monitors I'll remove thisother one as well leaving only myoriginal monitor you have the option forfour different possible monitor outputswhich can all be differentconfigurations your monitor could be aleft and right stereo it could be asurround sound with it any way you wantto mix it and match it but you can onlymake four of them and when you rightclick in this area it tells you whatmonitors you have so since I've alreadyused one up here my context now tells meI only have three monitors available soI could put three more monitors in andthat's it so you may be going what isthe point well let me show you thereason we're talking about this isbecause again with the control room onceyou start setting up all these differentmonitors and different things you canset up the control room gives you a fastquick way to access all these things forexample if you look at my control roomon the right here I have some tabsvarious things but I have one thing thatsays monitors here and that's what we'reworking with is the monitors so if I hitthe little Diamond next to monitors youcan see that I have something here thatsays monitor one also actually if youlook towards the bottom here you'll seea letter a and if you look next to mymonitor one there's a letter A now watchthis if I go back to my studio to myaudio connections and out of ourremaining monitors I got three availableleft let's put them all in there so I'mgoing to add three more stereo monitorsI'm not going to hook them up toanything I'll just add them into thelist here so now I have the monitor onebut I also have a monitor 2 a monitorthree and a monitor four and as we saideach one of these could be somethingdifferent monitor 2 could be a surroundsound monitor three could be somedifferent other set of speakers I havewhatever I need whatever my sound cardand studio is capable of so now I'mgoing to close this down so now when Ilook at my control room and I open upthe monitor option I now have fourdifferent monitors here which I did nothave before so what this means is let'ssay monitor one is my stereo outputmonitor 2 is my surround sound monitor 3is another set of you know who knowsoverhead speakers I have here but as I'mgoing through my session and I'mlistening back to what I've recorded Ican now quickly click through each oneof these different monitor systems andhear my music come through whateverspeaker configurations I've set up bothup here in this monitor area and downhere in this area I can just clickthrough each one of these and instantlyhere let's say for example I have astereo system here the next one is asurround sound so I can quickly bounceback and forth between what does my songsound like coming through stereo or whatis my song sound like coming through asurround sound so this is the whole ideaof what the control room is once you'veset up all these different monitors ordifferent things we're going to talkabout after this in the control room youcan quickly just hit buttons to movebetween those different configurationsthat you've set up okay one more thing Iwant to talk about today before you wrapthis one up again as I was like thinkingback prior to the days of using thecontrol room and why I switched to usingthe control room because again you knowwhen you're a new Cubase user a lot ofthe stuff well doesn't really make a lotof sense it didn't for me I know butI'll tell you one glaring example ofwhere the control room came alive for mewhen I'm listening to a song like thisand then I want to turn my metronome onwhich is as simple as saying the lettercback in the day I was like okay how do Iturn this clip downand so I'm searching for a Vine controlfor the click and I can't find one I'mable to find ways to change the click Iwas able to find ways to change theBeats of the click the count into theclick anything like this but I couldn'tturn the click down so it was like welldo I have to turn my song up you knoweither way it was like it was a veryannoying processto not be able to adjust the click to mysong So as you can see over here on theright I have my control room currentlydisabled so I'm going to go ahead andre-enable my control room againand down in this area in the controlroom at the bottom there's an area thatsays Main and you have a bunch of stuffwe haven't talked about all of it yetbut lo and behold down here there's anarea that says clickand when I hit the letter c on mykeyboard now I have my metronome andguess what I have a volume control righthere click the levelwhich I can turn up and downI can tell you the day I found that outwas just a big deal to me all right sothat's going to wrap it up for today wehave a lot of things left to go on thiscontrol room to really understand all ofits features we're going to cover themall if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab itbefore you go links to all the contenton the channel ever growing free to useworking on adding headings to the bigtopic so you can watch them all at onetime if you want so the control roomagain access to a whole bunch of stuffat the push of a button and a wholebunch of other options in terms ofmixing in general which we're going toget to as always glad when you guys arehere I'll see you in the next video
