Mixing Down - The Render Function V2 in Wavelab Pro
digitalaudiummanual.com Today we're moving on to our second video as we continue to discuss the render function in wavelab Pro but before we start I want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future I'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or Cubase plugins or the cable guys shaper Box 2 and many many other projects that are in the works then I know you're going to find just like I have that this is an invaluable study Aid and the other thing I want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple PDF this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free Okay so let's get started so in the last video we kind of looked at rendering we talked about what rendering was and looked at some basic uh options that are available in wavelab when it comes to rendering and of course all the previous videos are in the navigation guide in the link below but let's start off looking at some more of these options that they give us here so I'm on the render tab I'm looking over here on the left where it says source as we move down the list the next option to look at that we haven't seen is the active track so let's select the active track as you can see I have two tracks here one track has three Clips on another track has two clips on it so in wavelab you have What's called the active track and when you click a track and it puts a little blue in my case I put a little blue dot that becomes the active of track if we're going to render the active track let's do this top one and let's render it and let's see what it does and there we go look at that we got three Clips with spaces then we have an option here going down the list says active track Group which assumes we have some track groups so let's make sure we have some track groups so I'm going to select some tracks first I'm going to take this first track and hold Ctrl hit the second track right click on it and go up to add selected tracks to group right now I see I have no group so I hit my little plus sign which creates a group I'll just call it group one might as well add some color to it go down and add some color color the clips as well and then say add tracks to selected group and that makes it pretty obvious which of those clips are in the group and the tracks because the tracks now have a little red thing in the corner as well now let's go down to this last track and put that in a group I'll click on it I'll right click on it add the selected tracks to a group make another group call it group two let's add some color and the clip add it to the group and there you go it's pretty obvious which one is group a and which one is Group B right so now the option says the active track group so if I hit this track in the middle here which now makes this the active track and this track is in the group with the red on it which is group one which means that even though there's only this one clip we have these other clips that are part of the group when I render this off it should show me these three Clips let's see if it does it and there it is yes it did did a great job I put those three Clips even though they were on different tracks put them all together into one clip and there we go so then the next one we have in this list says the union of selected Clips which should take all the selected clips and make it into one clip has seven or eight tracks here each one on its own maybe a kick or a snare or a hi-hat or any various monster drums so if this Union bounces these all into one track let's see what it does first we have to select all the tracks so let's try Ctrl all I'm going to give this a name and let's render it and there it did for sure did a bounce of all those tracks so these next ones are pretty obvious because of all the stuff we've been talking about for a while one says selected CD track so we can make a CD track selection and render that off the next one says CD track group we've talked about that up on the tab of the CD you have the option to select groups or put groups on the CDs and then if you choose that option you can pick whatever group you want to render off but then this next one is really useful it's a specific marked region and by default because I've got CD markers already here when I look at this list it shows all the CD markers so I can just render those off if I want but this applies to any kind of markers you put so for example if I make a little selection right here and I go up to my insert Tab and I take any of these markers I can just use the one that says create a generic region I'll just hit that one and that puts little markers around that section now when I go back to the render tab see the specific marker regions as well as all my CD markers those new little generic markers are in there as well so for example if I pick that one and then I hit the render give it some kind of name hit the render and it renders off that tiny little section this would be very very useful again if I was doing things where I had to take maybe a section here for the verse and the section here for the chorus and maybe a little piece on the end I can make markers for every one of those sections and then easily render them off so that's a very very nice option they put there now that brings us down into this part that says multiple outputs and the first one here says all selected tracks let's hit that and I'm going to select the first track I'm going to select the last track hold Ctrl select it and render it let's see what it does so it opens up a dialogue telling me that two different files are going to be created which is good because it tells me for sure that they're not just being mixed together and showing me two separate files let's go ahead and say okay all right so I finished rendering the first and now it's rendering the second one and that's interesting what it did is it made sure that it started only where the clips were so that's definitely different than like the one that says all the Montage so that's very specific to the clips so the next option we have here says all track groups let's click on that from before I have two groups as you can see I have a red group here and I have the yellow group down here the red group consists of these two tracks and the yellow group is just the one track once I selected that in the name option it says the track group names are used so it kind of grayed out and just set that by default let's render it and see what it does all right first of all I get a dialogue telling me two groups are going to be created my group one and my group two pretty much like the other one it did you know render off the three different clips in the first group whereas the second group it rendered off the two clips and ignored the empty space at the beginning all right so another kind of obvious one all CD tracks in group so basically I have this clip in group a and I have this clip in group a and then I rendered it off these two clips will get rendered off this one I gotta tell you I have never paid attention to and if this does what I think it's going to do this is going to be pretty amazing the option says all the marked regions okay so if I click on this right now all I have is CD tracks so all the CD tracks are The Marked Ones if I look at my drop down that's what it says is CD tracks but let's see what happens if we throw in some extra regions on these other tracks so I'm going to create a space there I'm going to hit a generic region on that I'm going to go over to this clip I'm going to make a little Mark here create a generic region on that and what the heck let's go back to this one here make a tiny little space here make a generic region I'm going to go to the end of this file I'm going to add another region on it I'm going to add a generic region I'm going to go up to my markers tab because that gives me the ability to get into the stuff in more detail all right I want to give these markers some names so I'm going to go to this first one here click on it it highlights up in the marker window I'm going to call that intro to I'm going to go to this next marker I'm going just to the beginning markers not the end ones clicking on it it highlights it up in the marker window I'm going to call this break one I'm going to go over to this marker click on it give it a name I'll call it midsection I'm going to go to this Marker way over here give it a name all right now I'm going to render these off I want to see what it does go back to my render all marked regions not going to take the CD track I'm going to take the regions click on that hit render that is completely insane I did not even know it would do that it rendered off every one of those with labels oh my gosh I mean that's amazing for the stem mastering option or needing to run off certain sections I didn't even know isn't that something I didn't even know it would do it myself that is a whole new world that just opened up that feature will be getting used I can promise you that all right the last one let's look at here all the clip groups to take advantage of this we want to go up to our tool windows make sure the tab for the clip groups is active then we want to select a few Clips let's select this one this one and this one go back up to my clip group tab click on the functions we have a group the selected Clips I'm going to hit that I have no group so I got to create a group I'll call it clip group one say okay let's put these other Clips in another group I'm gonna hit this one add this one to it go back up to my functions group the selected clips I could hit the drop down and hit the same group but I don't want that I want a new group so I'll call it clip group two go to my render again hit the option that says all clip groups get ready to render it as usual I get a little dialogue that's saying confirm I'm going to get two clips here off we go and there it did two clip groups exactly as expected and there you go I mean there is some really good options there in the rendering I use that thing all the time and I learned a few things myself going through that list that is so functional there are so many great choices there as usual if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go has links to all the content on the channel ever growing free to use and loaded with videos and they're all sequenced in the number in their order easy to find better than a playlist the render functions I mean wow you know it's just amazing sometimes how when you dig into this stuff you can continually find some new gem I hope it serves you like it serves me this is some great stuff I enjoy sharing it with you as usual it's great to have you here and I'll see you on the next video
