today we talk about

MediaBay and Media Rack V7  in Cubase 12

hello everybody Andrew Blake from The digitalaudiomanual.com Today we're moving on to our seventh video as we continue to discuss the media Bay and media Rack in Cubase 12. but before we start I want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future I'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or Cubase plugins or the cable guys shaper Box 2 and many many other projects that are in the works then I know you're going to find just like I have that this is an invaluable study Aid and the other thing I want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple PDF this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free Okay so let's get started all right so we've been working on this media Bay media rack subject for quite a while previous videos are all in the navigation guide in the link below but we're going to lead off today's discussion talking about these filter section options up here in the top you have two of them one says logical one says attribute so let's start off looking at this logical one first and this is one of the differences between the media Bay and the media rack the media rack doesn't have a logical filter section in it this is only part of the media Bay when you click on this logical tab you are right away hit with search and filter area which allows you to click and decide on what attribute you want to pick how you want to search for them you want to containing or matching words or omit or equals the usual bully and stuff an area to enter text if you want and then by clicking on these little plus signs you can add six more layers of these search criteria it makes no difference if you have one field filled in or all the different fields filled in with different information if you go up to this reset button up at the top says reset filter it resets all the fields you can hit the little negative sign where the plus sign was to remove these little search areas it always launches with the first one saying any attribute and matches I have found that in this state it is really good for just basically typing in any kind of basic text like if I put in Tam for a tambourine it's going to very quickly look for anything it can find that has that word in it again on the left you can pick what particular folder maybe you want it to search through I have it on all media at the moment and the same rules apply up on top with selecting the media type you can filter this out or keep it in when you go to this list that allows you to pick the attributes you can actually pick multiple ones you don't have to pick just one if you do that it's going to try to find either one or the other of whatever selections you've made in this conditions pop up you would want to pick things depending on whether you're looking for words or numbers because you have things that like say greater than or equal to or less than and equal to although I have actually even used this with just words for example if I use pre standing for preset and then I use less than or equal to it looks still looks for presets in the area where they call this search string same thing applies like we've said before with this other Boolean stuff you can add more than one word just put a space in between them to make it an and situation with every change you make it automatically updates the results for you and just a little aside I haven't mentioned this yet but any of your results that come up here if they are samples of course you can always drag them right into your project but you also have the option to right click on any of these and create a sampler track which then allows you to play any of these audio parts by MIDI all right so now let's switch from this logical tab over to this attribute Tab and what are attributes attributes are the metadata that's on the different files when I click a file over here on the right we're going to see different information show up on the different files and this information is all searchable so it does make a difference on how easily you can find things so that now brings us on to the discussion of this attribute filter which is this thing here now you won't see this if you go up to the top of your window and over to this Windows layout thing and push this button there's a check mark here that says filters and if that gets unchecked you can see that whole filter section just disappears so for some reason you're not seeing it check that and make sure that the filters are available in each one of these columns you're going to get these titles that show up in this gray area up here and you have little drop down arrows that you can switch to different ones if you want but for sure depending on what title you have selected here it's going to depend what information that you're able to see and filter for every little sub little category here it also shows the possible results that you'll get like for example with my category here it says base and there's over 2 000 results here the value of these filters is that you can click on them and the results in this bottom pane will adjust from the result that you click on if I click piano I got 720 results if I go to my strings I have 492 results depending on what I have here now you can actually click more than one category I can hit piano and then I can hold control and I can hit strings and then I can have all of those combined another great option is that once you have some results down here you can also find things related to each particular result for example if I go to any one of these results and then I right click on them and then I go down this little context list I have a search for option at the bottom which then shows all the metadata on that file and I can use any of these to like find similar things for example maybe the date that this particular file was created maybe there's some other files that I had created on that same date and I'd like to find them so I can go to the subtext in the search and look for the date modified or date created and then I can find similar files of that date or any other criteria that comes up when I right click here once that result shows up and you have these files up here on the filter section it switches back from attribute to this logical that we were just looking at and the conditions that we would normally have to Pick It Auto filled those in after something like this has done a search from that context menu if you you want to reset it there's a button here that stands for go back and if you click on that it sends you back to where you were then ultimately if you want to reset everything there's this reset filter button all right so there you go that's going to wrap it up for today as we continue to Bear down on this huge subject of the media Bay and media rack but I have to say we have definitely crested a huge amount of the information we are I think Land Ho is is in the sites as usual if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go as links to all this content and everything is in order and easy to get to and that's the whole reason it's there to help you and help me in case we need to learn something or if we need to review something an ever-growing online resource of information free to use so we've got a little bit into the attributes today and we're going to rip those apart a little bit more the attributes are really a key function in terms of like being able to find your file so you want to be able to know how to add the attribute information and that kind of thing and then there's a few other various application things as usual great to have you guys here and we'll see you at the next video
