today we talk about

MediaBay and Media Rack V3  in Cubase 12

hello everybody andrew blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move on to our third video as we discuss the media bay and media rack in cubase 12. but before we start i want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future i'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or cubase plugins or the cable guys shaperbox2 and many many other projects that are in the works then i know you're going to find just like i have that this is an invaluable study aid and the other thing i want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple pdf this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free okay so let's get started so we are on the third video of the discussion with media bay media rack and previous videos are in the navigation guide in the link below but we're going to have a little look at scanning and some other things like that so in review we want to open up our media bay we can just hit f5 on our keyboard and if you don't see it go over to this windows layout little gear here on the very far right and make sure that the thing for the file browser is checked and as we look at this area on the left here that is the file browser it says file browser above everything you get these groups of folders and these are basically predefined although there's a lot of stuff you can add in here we're going to talk about that so the first thing we want to notice and look at in the file browser here are these little check marks and these check marks are different colors because they're telling you basically what's been scanned and in the database and what hasn't been scanned on my particular one it shows these bottom three folders are white which means that everything the folders subfolders everything's been scanned in those folders on the other hand these folders above are kind of an orangish color which means basically that some things have been scanned but not everything so if i go up to a little kind of expander triangle thing on my computer for example which is orange on the check mark and i click that that reveals that indeed there are quite a few folders subfolders within that group they're not even checked all right so that means you know i haven't even bothered to scan some folders and then even there within those ones that are checked there's still an orange one it says on my hard disk here if i checked one of these if something went red if a folder goes red it's telling me that particular folder is being scanned on the other hand some of these folders are yellow and that's telling me that not everything has been scanned in those particular folders so again the concept here is you want to be aware that in order for stuff to appear in the media bay you have got to decide you want it checked and scanned over here in the file browser and it's not recommended really that you are searching for results if there's a scan going on you either want to be scanning it or done scanning it and then using it and anything you want to add to this list to make it a favorite for example i have my download folder here which isn't even checked if i right click on this i can select add favorite if for some reason i want to change the name to make it more recognizable i can change the name as well if i want to start scanning let's go ahead and check something i have this splice folder that's not been scanned i'm going to check it and you can see it immediately goes red showing that it is now scanning it switches to yellow as the scan proceeds on showing that various subfolders are being scanned and it is clicking its way down through these folders changing them from yellow to white and now as i look back at the main folder it's gone white and i now have all the results in that folder keep in mind everything you do in the media bay also gets reflected over in the media rack so if i add a new favorite into this area in the file browser and now i go over into my media rack and i click on the favorites tile now that will be added into my group of favorites as well you want to keep in mind that if you change things outside of cubase if you're messing with your hard disk you are deleting files when you open the media bay it won't automatically be updated so if you want to go up to a folder or file like i'm going to go back to the splice if i right click on it i have an option to come down and say refresh the views that way if there's anything that's been changed it will update it for me same thing applies if you add an extra hard drive sometimes you'll want to refresh your computer just to make sure everything is showing up there when you click on a folder you can always see the results over here on the toolbar it's a little bit past mid way over mine says right now on my all media i have close to or actually 10 000 results here on the other hand when i go back and hit a favorite of my splice it bumps it down to 839 results so if i'm ever at the full amount where i go back to all the media and i have these 10 000 results if i go over to this down arrow which is the media based settings there's actually an option here where you can limit the amount of results which in fact mine is set at ten thousand so that's probably putting a cap i probably have even more files that are here but i could set that to whatever i want in case i don't want to be viewing in my results list huge amount of files so there you go a little bit more on the media bay as we continue to explore all its many options if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go links to all the content on the channel ever growing and free to use so if you haven't set up favorites on your media folders experiment with putting in some favorite folders so you can find things quick and easy when you use your media bay remember you can hit the f5 key to open it and close it fast alright great to have you guys here see you in the next video
