MediaBay and Media Rack V2 in Cubase 12
hello everybody andrew blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we are moving on to our second video as we discuss the media bay and media rack in cubase 12. but before we start i want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future i'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or cubase plug-ins or the cable guys shaperbox and many many other projects that are in the works then i know you're going to find just like i have that this is an invaluable study aid and the other thing i want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple pdf this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free okay so let's get started so in the previous video we began discussing the media bay media rack now we're moving on to more details previous videos in the navigation guide below so first up let's talk about adding pictures from instruments if i go to my instrument tile i can see most of my instruments have pictures to them if i go down to the bottom of my list and i see i have vital in here and vital has no picture so if i go and i create a vital track and then i open the instrument up and then i look up on the right there's a little like camera picture and if i hit a little camera go ahead and close this down and now a picture of vital has been added into my rack same thing applies with vst effects if i click on that guy and i look down my list anything i don't have a picture for in this case i see i have no picture for endless smile which in my opinion is a total crime so for this one i'm going to open up vital the actual channel of vital and in that i'm going to put in the insert an instance of my endless smile so i put that in there then i'm going to open up the plugin itself and in this case i go up to the right hit the little camera again and now i have a picture in my media rack we move from the media rack we go over to this menu that says media go down that list till we see the media bay click on that and this now opens up the media bay window which is what used to be the only media bay before the media rack got added at some later point in the media bay you have on the far left the file browser for browsing all the different files up on top you have the toolbar you have the filter area the results area then you have as before and previewer area where you can hear the sound whatever you click on then on the right you have this attribute screen where you can add more details you won't see this if you don't have this right pane opened up pretty good with allowing you to adjust the size of these windows each one of these panes pretty much allows you to switch them however you want turn them on and off as necessary grab the tops or the bottoms or the corners to resize this thing up on the toolbar you have these arrows and you would think they just go from file to file but what they actually do is move from what you've clicked on so if i click on this folder and then i click on this folder and then i click on this folder this will remember those moves and go back through those folders again there's an up arrow that takes you to the parent directory of whatever you're looking at next up on the toolbar we have the favorites and we'll probably talk about this even more detail but one thing about the media bay as opposed to the media rack the media rack i have found to be quick you know when you're looking for something quick and the media base seems to be a lot more detailed when you're looking for the details but for example like in the favorites department if i'm browsing through this whole list in the file browser here let's say i want to put my documents and i just click on that i go up to the favorites star here i hit it gives me a real easy way to just add it in i say okay now i actually have a favorites folder that's up here and the documents have been added into that very easy if i want to get rid of it i can click on it right click on it again i have all kinds of options to to do things to it but i can just remove the favorite and concerning the favorites you have this little drop down list that always keeps the favorites right there easy access so if you're going through files and you've got folders open and you're all over the place you always have quick easy access to the favorites that you've set up right next to that you have this folders and subfolders so it depends on how deep you want to go usually i just keep it on the subfolders as well you can right click up on this toolbar and you get you know all these options that you can check or uncheck and we have these options here that say the left divider or the right divider and we've seen this and you know a lot of different steinberg products they do this and so when you have these lists and you have these things checked if you go down to the bottom you have this thing that's the setup you click on that and you have these options that are you know listed there and if you want to move them to one side or the other of the dividers just highlight them and then you have a move up or move down so you can change it but the idea is that whatever is on the left of the left divider always stays over there and everything that's over here on the right of this so-called right divider that always stays there as we continue on on my toolbar we have the option for a text search so like for example if i go up here and i type in the word snare hit enter down here in the results i have all these options that show up with the word snare in them you have this select the media type which we've seen before as well you can click if i want just audio files or strip presets whatever i want i can click those move off this list and then only those are shown in the results next to that you have an option to set up ratings and when you click on it it shows like these little asterisks which kind of stanford stars and you have one to five different stars if you go down into the list there's actually a column that says ratings and if you can see on mine right now there is no rating on the particular snares that i have here but adding a rating is as simple as clicking on it and it shows up when i just hit it it shows like basically one star and to add more all i have to do is click and drag as i drag it adds more on there so if you you know you want to rate your files and that really does help if you have particular files you look at all the time to get rid of the ratings you just do the same thing you click and drag it to the left and they just go away right next to that you have a reset filter so anytime you have words typed in or ratings or whatever you can always reset the results back to nothing rather all result next to that you get a number that actually shows how many results in this case is showing i have 6 000 snares down here if i want to refresh that i can hit this update results button i can shuffle the results if i want something more interesting as you continue to move there's a little down arrow gives you some settings you can hide folders that aren't scanned or show only the selected folder all the buttons for the standard zones that'll free up area space if you need it a button for the layout things that are always going to be visible unless you uncheck them and then the setup toolbar which is really the same as when you right click in this area same options and then really just great you know browsing options and when you look at these results if you click on them you can click on them to hear them but you can just as easily click on something and use your down arrow [Music] or your up arrow to quickly you know preview through things just great also the standard key shortcut key for opening the media bay is f5 unless you've changed it you can just hit your f5 key on your keyboard to quickly open that media bay up so there you go some options in the media bay and we've been talking about the media rack so mess around with your media bay and your media rack if you haven't grabbed the content navigation guide from the link below be sure to grab that before you go has links to all this content ever growing makes it easy to find things everything's in a list easy access by category and it's there to make your life easier and it's there to make my life easier i use a thing all the time we have quite a ways to go because there's still quite a lot of features hidden under the hood in this media base so we will be continuing on examining it layer by layer and finding out how to put it to creative use so we're not confused by it we can make it work for us all right as always great to have you guys here see you in the next video
