Markers V1 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudium manual.com today we'regoing to start a series of videosdiscussing markers in Cubase but beforewe start I want to remind you thatthere's a link below to the free contentnavigation guide which is an easy tonavigate webpage with links to all thecontent on this channel and besides thatin the near future I'm going to beginadding tips and other bits ofinformation that will only be availablethere you know things like simple stepsthat will get you started and up andrunning quick things that are in thevideos but are written down in simplesteps that serve as quick reminders whenyou need information down the road ifyou're working with programs likewavelab or Cubase plugins or the cableguys shaper Box 2 and many many otherprojects that are in the works then Iknow you're going to find just like Ihave that this is an invaluable studyAid and the other thing I want to makesure you understand is that this is nota simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos are arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so markers you probablyfigure you know everything there is toknow about them right well let's seeabout that if you don't know whatmarkers are just in case they'rebasically things that allow you to findpoints you know in your song quick youwant to get to the verse you want to getto the chorus you want to get to theinstrumental you set up a marker andthen you can navigate to that spot veryquickly but in the latest versions ofCubase and really for a while nowthey've kind of Taken markers to adifferent level you have the option toput in 10 different marker tracks andyou may think why would you want thatwell there's all kinds of reasonsespecially depending on what kind ofmusic you're producing they allow you tobalance and Export things depending onthe cycle markers you've created createdthe list really goes on and on with someof the extra features that are nowavailable if you understand how to usemarkers in your project so let's startfrom ground zero and I'm gonna I havesome markers here I'm going to removethem and let's go ahead and put a markertrack in here and that's how everythingis done from a marker track so over hereon the left I'm do a right click and Ilook down here for add a marker trackclick on thisand we're going to call this positionbecause these first markers we're goingto look at are called position markersnow as usual there's many ways to do thesame thing in Cubase but I'm going topick a way and then we'll show the otherways as we go so to start puttingmarkers in I'm going to right click andselect the little pencil tool here atthat point I can just go to the trackand draw by clicking and it creates amarker I'm going to create some at allthe different sections of my song Heredepending on the resolution they justsnap right to whatever resolution you'veset up so now I have these markers inplace once you've created some markersyou can go to the marker track make sureit's selected and then over on the leftZone it shows you all your markers andif I click on any of these numbers orthe markers my cursor will move to thatspot so I can quickly move through myproject just by clicking on thesedifferent marker numbers so let's say Iclick on this spot and I play itor I click on this spot and I play itwherever I need to go again these arecalled position markers because theytake you to one position on the songLet's go ahead and create another markertrackand we're going to call this one cyclebecause you guessed it we're going tocreate what's called cycle markers andagain there's many ways to do these butfirst way we're going to talk about isif you select in your tools the rangetool and then select a little range ofsome kind and then you go over on thetrack itself and there's a little doublepicture here looks like two markers whenyou click that it creates a cycle markerin that range so I'm going to go andselect the different ranges as I gothrough my sections of my songs draw therange hit the button for it create acycle marker and then you have thesecycle markers when you double click on acycle marker up above it itautomatically sets up the looping areaany of the section I go to and doubleclick on it I now have a loop built inautomatically if I hit number one on mykeyboard it takes it to the beginning ofthat that I can play itand if I have Loop enacted which I do onmy transport it will just loop aroundthis cyclesame thing as before I can use thenavigation area over here on the leftwhatever area I click on it just startsto play thereon the track itself there's a littledrop down that says cycle and if youclick that it shows you all your Cycleswhich you can then click on go ahead andselect that particular cycle for you nowthere's some other ways to draw thesecycle markers let's do it this way I'mgoing to eliminate one of these I'lljust select it hit deleteI'll hit this other one hit delete now Ican also instead of just hitting rangeand doing all that I can hold controland it turns into a draw tool and I canjust draw in a cycle marker that way aswell I'll draw one there and I'll drawone over here as well and againdepending on the snap that you've put inplace it'll just snap for youautomaticallyyou can also use the erase tool on yourToolbar to erase these markers if I goup and I just click on it I erase it butanother nice feature and I didn't learnthis until later on if I take my rangetool over a marker and I select a rangelike this marker goes farther than therange is here but I made a little rangein the middle and if I hit control X itcuts a piece out of it and makes twodifferent cycle markersanother nice thing about the cyclemarkers if I go to one of these and Ihold alt and I double click on it itautomatically expands and zooms intothat full cycle marker you can movethese cycle markers around very easilyyou just click on them and drag them andeach cycle marker has little handles atthe bottom so if you grab one of thosehandlesyou can click and drag that to whateverlength you want it to be one of theabsolutely most useful features of thesecycle markers that again is fairlyrecent in Cubase is you can use these toexport the sections of your songs forexample in my song I have an intro andthen the verse and the various you knowsections so if I go up now to the fileand I come down to export and I go tothe audio mix down option as we look atthis big list of all kinds of optionsone of the options towards the bottomhere is it says export the range and itgives you an option for Locators orcycle markers and for mine if I look atthe cycle marker list it shows me that Ihave six different cycle markers here ifI had them labeled which I'm going totalk about shortly here right now theyjust say one two three four if I want tobalance out the verse or the chorus orthe intro or whatever I needed I couldpick that it makes it very easy to pickthem because you can just select them bychecking them or you can pick the listand just draw it down the listand it selects all of them and then youcan hit one time on the check box and ithits all of them so let's go ahead andExport these I'm going to show you whathappens now I have everything set up soI can export right into wavelab if youhave wavelab that's another great optionthat you can use but watch what happenswhen I export these it opens up wavelaband then one by one it brings thosecycle markers into wavelab as individualaudio filesso not to go into a big long wave labtutorial but just as you can see I'vebeen able to bring all these differentsections nowfrom the use of balanced markers intowavelab which now I can master andrender offany section I want any way I want andthis isn't limited to a full mix downlike this I could make just as easilyseparate tracks and various you know submixes of bass and drums or whatever Ineed another nice option to know aboutif you're erasing these markers and wego back to our erase tool again you canjust click on something to erase it butif you hold alt when you hit a race itkills everything after the marker you'retrying to erase and it does the samething on the position markers if I holdalt and hit it all the consecutivemarkers afterwards got erased as we goalong we'll look at this a little morein depth but there's this option to openup this marker window which gives ussome more details on what we're lookingat but in this marker window we alsohave a function drop down list I'm goingto actually move this cursor temporarilyover here and get rid of these othermarkers so if I go back to this functiondrop down one of the options I have ismove the marker to the cursor sowhatever I have selected here will thenmove over over to the cursor markersalso have lines attached to them so asyou move them they actually can show thelines of where they are and if you goand right click on the marker track andgo down to the bottom it says showmarker lines and right now I've got mineset off but if I go over here and I sayfrom the active marker track that nowturns lines on so wherever I move thismarker to those lines go up and downthrough the whole project all rightthat's going to wrap it up for today asusual if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatfrom the link below has links to all thecontent on the channel ever growing andfree to useso that should set you off down the pathto markers if you've never used them andif you have maybe you've picked up a fewextra little tips there I gotta say theability to export from cycle markers isjust an excellent option although thereare a few more that we're going toexplore as we continue hereas always great to have you guys hereI'll see you in the next video
