Effects for Tracks-Groups-Clips V3 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody andrew blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're going to look at our third video as we explore effects for tracks groups and clips in wavelab pro but before we start i want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future i'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or cubase plug-ins or the cable guys shaperbox2 and many many other projects that are in the works then i know you're going to find just like i have that this is an invaluable study aid and the other thing i want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple pdf this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free okay so let's get started all right so we've been talking about effects on these clips let's take this clip and i'm going to go over to the inspector and the first slot and add in a master rig and then i'm going to go to the second slot and add in a delay then you can use up on the command bar in the montage itself you have an on doing a redo and if i hit the undo it will start removing those effects until it goes back to no effects you have the option to choose what channels you want to process for example mid-side for this you'll you'll definitely want to have headphones on and you really won't hear this but if you have some headphones on this is kind of illuminating what this can do so first i'm going to pick just a mono effect i'm going to go to my mono delay which will sound ridiculous on this clip but it makes it very obvious what it's affecting now once you put an effect on that the very first little button on the far left allows you to do this channel processing and if i click this it shows stereo mid side left right whatever so let's go through these and if you got like i said if you have the headphones you'll really hear this so right now it's on stereo it's affecting the stereo field of this clip i'm going to click it over to the mid side i'm going to click it to the left you'll definitely hear this if you again if you have headphones on you can hear a delay happening over in your left ear and on the right is dry let's do the opposite go to the right side [Music] delay shifts to the right process just the mid what that's doing is putting delay on the mid side signal but the difference on the left and right outer are dry let's do the side only there's a definitely an interesting effect your mid is completely dry but your sides have delay [Music] pretty interesting routing possibilities for an effect you can continue on with this where it goes to the sends and when you use these sends what it's really doing is taking one side or the other of the effect and applying it to the stereo clip you have a similar option right on the plugins themselves there's a little like r thing and if you click on that you get those same options you can edit how the routing of the clip goes with the effect let me put that delay back in here again so when you first put the effect on the clip if you go back over into the inspector there's a little arrow says the routing of the process signal when you hit that you have these options as the insert blend or parallel if it's on the insert the effect itself is controlling the wet and dry but if i go down into blend a little option at the bottom of this list now appears saying edit the automation envelope and i can click that what used to be the volume envelope now becomes the effect envelope and as i move this the effect will get wet or dry or you can add nodes and actually add automation to it [Music] so when you're dealing with effects a stereo effect you actually can affect one side or the other of the stereo effect let me show you let's say we have this clip and we want to add a stereo delay to it but i only want to affect the stereo delay 2 leave the stereo delay 1 alone so if i go down into this automation envelope area and click on one of these slots now it's showing a spot for the stereo delay and it has all kinds of options but you can pick delay 1 or delay 2 or anything specific to whatever side of the effect you want to go let's go with delay 2 for a second here and it immediately puts an envelope here at the bottom of the clip and for example if i leave one side of that envelope down and i take this other side i move that all the way to the top you'll now see this delay two move through it [Music] while the delay one doesn't move at all when you go to remove these automation envelopes you can't right click on them or make any kind of clicking at all you actually have to go up to the little trash can above it click on that and it'll remove it on the output of the montage you have you know of course a fader here that takes the gain down and you have this option right here in the gain area and it stands for pre or post effects it's not very obvious at first let me play this a little bit for you here as i take this fader down and then i go back and i change the other way to the other post effects and i take the fader down again it seems to if you feel like it's doing the same thing because in both cases everything just goes down [Music] but in reality there is a big difference i can demonstrate that clear if i move the fader fast if i turn this blue light on so this is basically staying the post fader as i turn the fader down fast everything will go down in other words it'll go to silence watch [Music] complete silence but if i turn it into this pre-fader option you will see that the gain disappears quickly but the effect continues to linger on [Music] see that the delay continues on so it becomes very obvious that one is affected with the gain immediately and one lets the gain go down while the effect lingers on all right so there you go a few more options for the effects on the clips tracks and groups in the audio montage as usual if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go gives you links to all the content on the channel ever growing free to use and gives you easy access to where everything is and how it's all laid out so there's a few more bits of information to gather up on the effects in the montage we will gather those as we continue on here it's always great when you guys are here and i will see you on the next video
