direct offline processing V3 in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our third video as we continuediscussing direct offline processing inCubase but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe free content navigation guide whichis an easy to navigate webpage withlinks to all the content on this channeland besides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we continue thisdiscussion of the direct offlineprocessing we're on the third video andthe other two videos are in thenavigation guide in the link below but Iwant to start off today's discussiongoing in a little bit more of thisfavorites option and what we can do ifyou look over on the left you have thisarea where you bring in your processesand then you also have this area downhere on the bottom that allows you tocollect favorites and the great thingabout this is it not only allows you tocollect individual processes but you canactually stack the processes and thenput those all together so let's do anexample of both of these I'm going tostart by removing everything I rightclick delete all make sure that my audiois highlighted then if I go up and hitthe play button I can hear this audioplaying through now let's add in acouple of things I'm going to go I couldjust bring it from the plug window herebut I've already saved some of these soI'm going to bring them in that way andthe first one I'm going to bring in isthe normalize so if I click on that thisis a great option because now they'vekind of modernized this to where you notonly have the option for the peak valuebut you can go over here and decide ifyou want a loudness level so let's takethis loudness option I'm going to makesure that's highlighted I'm going to putthis at negative 18 lufts lufs as we cansee it's increased the hi-hat soundright now this is now at negative 18. solet's say I want to drop off some of thelow end of this I'm going to bring infrequency as an EQ I'll start playingthis as wellyou can see the interface just like Inormally would I'm going to go to thelowest band here I'm going to put it ata cut of 96.and I can hear immediately if I drop offall the low endI'll put that right around 100 give ortake and the great thing is again if Isave this in the direct offlineprocessing it's going to remember thisbasically as a preset if I don't have togo up and save a preset or do anythinglike that it's already taking all thesettings and kept it let's go ahead andput a delay in here I'm going to go tothe ping pong delay again I could go upto plugins and find delay but I've gotit saved down below I'm going to bringthat in and right now the mix is all theway down if I start bringing it upI can immediately hear my delayand then let's add in last a roomretriever bringing a little mix of thatso there we go we have all thoseprocesses happening on this hi-hat andas we've said hardly taking up anyprocessing power at all even though wehave four fairly incentive plugins goingon here so now here's the fun part I getsomething like this all together I caneither hold my shift key and selecteverything or I can just right click andsay select all not only do we have thefavorites option down here but weactually have four different banks wherewe can put things you can click on anyone of these four banks that you want tosave things into I'm going to move thisto bank three for now because it's emptyif I now grab any one of these and dragit into the favorites it now opens up anew option that says new favorite andthis is what happens anytime you havelike stacked processes like this and I'mjust going to call this Basics hit okayand now every one of those processes aresaved in like this one little folder soif I right click on this and I sayremove all of these or delete them goahead and audition my hi-hats again andnow just by clicking this one favoriteit now adds all four of those processesin exactly like I saved them just likethat that's amazing stuffbut I find to be a really nice optionwith something like this is let's sayyou have a bunch of effects that you'regoing to use but you really don't knowhow much of them you're going to use forexample this room Works let's say Idon't know if I want Reverb so I'm goingto turn my Reverb all the way down samething with my delay I don't know I knowI'm going to use some delay but I haveno idea how much so I'm going to turnthat mix all the way down I want myfrequency to always drop out the low endso I'll leave that and I want my normaleyes to always bring things to negative18. so now I'm going to save this presetI'll select all of these drag it downinto the window and I'll call it dry I'mgoing to remove all these again I'mgoing to hit my hi-hats and the greatoption for something like this is nowwhen I hit this dry setting this hasalready been normalized and thefrequency has been added for the EQ butthe Reverb and the delay are not beendialed in yet they're just waiting forme to add those in so if I click on thedelay for example I can now dial it inexactly the way I want itand then I can go to my Reverb samething I can dial it in how much I wantand now that's specific to that soundbut if I go to another sound let's say Ihave a snare drum or something like thatit'll add all of these effects but theping pong delay and the room Works willcome in dry and I can add them as I wantso this favorites option and the abilityto stack the different effects is reallyjust a super great way to use thisoffline processingso let me share with you now a couple ofthings I've learned about manipulatingthese effects the way you want it'sreally hard to find these kind of tipsin written form in the manual that's forsure but for example if I go back to oneof my multi effects hereyou have the ability to rearrange theseeffects again anytime you click on themyou see them over in the right window asa display you can also just click anddrag an effect when you drag it there'susually a blue line that shows whereyou're going to drop it so for exampleif I want my room Works going into myping pong delay I can set it that way orI can take my ping pong delay and moveit up and now I have my delay going intomy Reverb which makes a difference inhow things sound so you can always justrearrange these things another thing andyou may not want this to happen everytime you hit these multis they just addanother set of them right on top of theother ones so now I have these same foureffects again and if I hit it again Igot 12 different effects here allstacked up on each other which isobviously not what I would desire on myhi-hats again the way to get out of thisstuff just right click and say deleteall of these and then away they go onething that was a little frustrating forme when I first started messing withthis stuff because you have these fourBanks maybe I want these multis in adifferent bank than where I set them upfor example I have these in Bank threebut maybe I want them in Bank two orthere's no option to just grab them draghim to bank too they didn't build thatin there but it's not the end of theworld because if you just click on itand then go to your bank too select thatit's no big deal to go down and sayselect all and then drag these into banktwo at which point you can rename it andsave it into Bag two the moving betweenthe banks is pretty easy if you justknow how to do that and then the othergood thing to know is how you cancombine all these let's say for exampleI have my normalize effect and I turnthat on but now I want to add those fourother effects from my multi no big dealbecause I go to bank three and I clickon that that leaves my first normalizein place and then adds the other foureffects on top of it which again I couldtake any of these and drag them aroundonce you understand how it works you canpretty creatively move your effects andget the ones you want in the order thatyou want you have some basic shortcutsthat are available to you as well withthis processing window and some of themare pretty good to understand forexample if you're looking at youreffects you can use your arrows to go upand down through the effects but onething you'll experience and you'll wantto make a decision about you have theoption to always play an audition in theprocess window like we've been talkingabout if I click on thatI get to hear all my processes butdepending on how your preferences are ifI hit my space barthat always starts the project playingand it has nothing to do with startingand stopping this so what has happenedto me many times is I'll get frustratedbecause I'll play thisand then I'll hit my space bar just outof habit to stop itand then I get two things going at onceI get the project playing and I get myaudition in the process window playingwhich is not what I wanted to happenbecause right now my spacebar alwaysstarts the project well if you go up toyour edit come down to your preferencesand scroll down your list of options soyou get to transport you have an optionup here in the transport that saysplayback toggle triggers the localpreview if I go ahead and check that hitapply and okay what happens now is aslong as the focus is on the actualwindow itself when I hit my space barit's going to start that preview andit's not going to start my projectand if I hit my space bar again it'sgoing to stop the preview if you'reworking with an editor like this you maywant to consider switching thatpreference to that option now if anytime you want the project to play justgo down and click in the project againand give that the focus and then when Ihit my space barthan my project plays so I can do bothif I want I just have to make sure Igive Focus to the right window at anytime and there you have it everythingabout the direct offline processing asusual if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatfrom the link below this video gives youaccess to all the content on the channelever growing and free to use content isin order updated continually and it'sthere to help make your life easier andmake my life easier hopefully we want tofigure something out we don't have towork so hard anymore so what did we talkabout today we got into the favoritesand we talked about the Stacked effectsbut then we started talking about how wecan rearrange the effects if you click astack it just keeps adding those effectswe talked about how to delete all thosewe saw how we can't really drag multisto different banks but we saw theworkaround where we can just go todifferent banks and create them againand we saw we can face multis over othersingle effects and then we ended uptalking about some of the shortcuts andpreferences you can use with youroffline processing window so if youdon't use direct offline processing youshould experiment with it I highlyrecommend it it's definitely somethingyou want under your belt when you'reworking with Cubase where you use it allthe time every time no but when it comestime to do some surgical effectsprocessing I don't really think there'sanother option that can give you thesame kind of power for sure directoffline processing is a real gem inCubase and we will continue down ourtrack as we learn all the subjects everylittle bit of them so we know what we'redoing we're looking at the screen and wecan get into more action as opposed toconfusion that's the whole goal aroundhere more action less confusion allright as always it's great to have youguys here I'll see you on the next video
