CD Window V4 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from the digitalaudiomanual.com today we're going to move on to our fourth and final video as we discuss the CD window in wavelab Pro but before we start I want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future I'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wave lab or Cubase plugins or the cable guys shaper Box 2 and many many other projects that are in the works then I know you're going to find just like I have that this is an invaluable study Aid and the other thing I want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple PDF this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free Okay so let's get started Okay so we've been working on this series of videos for a little while and of course all previous videos in the navigation guide in the link below but we have a few things we just want to wrap this all up with and the first thing is Let's uh review real quickly how to actually set up a CD because this is the thing that threw me off in the beginning and it seems to throw everybody else off so let's just wrap it up one last time as we lead off this discussion so the basic steps when you're going to build a CD in wavelab the first thing you want to do is make sure you have a montage created with some songs in it and officially I guess these each one of these have to be more than four seconds so I can't imagine you making a song less than four seconds but if you do just be you where it has to be at least that so assuming you have your songs in your montage and you have decided these are the songs you want to make a CD out of the first thing you're going to want to do is go up to the tab that says CD and you're going to want to look for a little button in there that says the CD wizard when you click on the CD wizard you get the CD wizard screen now unless you have some specific things that you want to change on your CD the defaults are just fine you can just take all the defaults written right here go down hit apply at that point the CD wizard moves the tracks to the proper location puts markers in place gets everything ready to go and then the next thing you'll want to do is go up and look for the button back up on that toolbar that says check for the Conformity and you'll want to click on that guy you'll get a little confirmation that'll say the CD track is valid it'll tell you the length of the CD you just hit OK if for some reason that comes up saying invalid it'll tell you what you have to fix so you just have to fix those things but if it says valid that's good to go the last thing you'll want to do is go up to this little button that says write the audio CD you'll click on that if you haven't already put a disk in your burner check you know anything here that you may want to change basically you have options to test it but not write it or render off temporary files any number of things but again I just leave things as they are I do take this one that says eject after completion then I know the disk is done because it spits it back out I go ahead and hit OK and it'll write a disk and in a few minutes I'll have a CD ready to play so let's just wrap up a bit of this last information so when we go up initially when we're setting up a CD and we hit this thing that says the CD wizard let's go ahead and hit this again two broad things to kind of comprehend when you're looking at this screen and again you don't have to really change anything on this this is ready to go but in case you do need to change some things notice that it's kind of divided into I'd say it looks like four sections and at the top you have generate CD track markers if I uncheck that this top section the whole top session pretty much Grays out same thing if I move down to the CD marker naming if I check that out pretty much everything in this next section Grays out you have an option for the pauses if you uncheck that it Grays out and you know everything right on down the list each thing is like has a sub section and it kind of when the when you uncheck the main thing it unchecks everything notice that you have an option to create presets so if you have different ways that you burn CDs with certain things unchecked or numbers changed you can always come down here and just change these in the different presets if you look at your preset list usually there's a few Factory presets in here to adjust the gaps or the pauses creating CD markers as Clips various things so again there's already some presets if you want to play with them or you can create your own so going back up to the top our first option of generate the CD track markers if that's checked the first option here says create markers that clip boundaries which is what mine does if you look at each clip it has a CD marker at the beginning and the end of each particular clip the next clip has a marker at the beginning and the end if you choose this next option there's an option here that says use splice markers keep the pauses within the tracks if I check that and hit apply all of a sudden the markers no longer are at the end and beginning of the tracks there's just one little set of n beginning at the next track and the basically the distance or the Gap after the previous track is included supposedly that adds to certain compatibility in certain electronic devices again if you're using that you probably know what it's for and probably have a reason to do it this next option is kind of interesting when you have tracks that maybe have a Crossfade going one right into the other but they still need to be defined as two different you know Clips or tracks on your CD you have the option when you open the CD wizard to hit this one that says create markers at the Crossfade points and if you hit apply it will put a beginning and end marker right kind of in the middle of that cross feed therefore it's signifying where one track ends in the Crossfade and the other track begins and then the last option in this little section of the CD wizard it says keep the locked CD track markers when this CD wizard does its thing it basically wipes out any previous CD markers you may have had unless you have specifically put in the option to lock that marker when you created a CD marker you're of your own at some point if that's the case it'll keep it otherwise it's going to just put its own markers where it knows they need to go okay then it goes on to this next section which says the CD marker gaming and this is where you can basically decide how you want these tracks named now like I said when I started my demonstration all my tracks have metadata on them so in each clip there's already a name for each song So if I take this first option that's you know as the clips it's going to take each song and just name it automatically which I have to say is a very good option to do on the other hand maybe you have a bunch of random Clips or you have variations of your songs you then have options to just start adding numbers you can go to these specific names and numbers and when you do that the line below lights up and you can put in how you want spaces to be or what numbers you want to follow there's options for in this drop down for different kinds of numbering systems or do you want the numbers before the specific name and when you pick any of these things that say specific name this field below lights up as well now right now it says track for me but you could put a specific name in here so you have just lots of options on how to name these things and then you also have for the end marker how do you want things to name itself including no name at all then we move on to this next section below which says adjust the pauses before the tracks again the default that they've put in here is two seconds on a set time you could change that I've experimented with it at one second or no second various things depends on what you want if you've got pauses that you put in yourself you have this option to click round the existing pauses to the closest Second and then this final option on adjusting the pauses you can click it to say don't adjust the first pause this is put into place so that basically if you're changing these other pauses you're still conforming to What's called the Red Book standards then we move on to this next section that says adjust the gaps between the markers and the sound and of course you can adjust all these things the silence after where the first start marker is silence before each track marker silence before each track and marker etc etc there's also this little check box down here at the bottom it's kind of like a catch safe because it says ensure the required minimum size for CD tracks again you know this depends on what you know about burning CDs what your requirements are what you're burning them for who you're burning them for you know any number of things so if you know what you want to change these two and why you want to change them you can but again the defaults are for most people just fine then you have an option at the bottom to set the quantize of the CD markers to the nearest CD frame again it just kind of rounds things off below that you have an option to actually generate isrc codes you have to actually put a code in here to start with and again you can put the UPC code in down here just like you could up here on the toolbar the same thing and then after you finish completely destroying all these options and getting yourself in a total amount of trouble go down to your drop down for your presets go down to where it says Factory preset and there's one that says default hit default and get yourself back to square one at that point you can hit apply and then move on to burning your CD and then we talked about in the last video up up here on your options the first one says audio and pauses if that's not checked this space between the tracks is ignored when it writes a CD on the other hand if that is checked and there's actually sound or music that continues on through this pause the CD will record that as well one example that does come to mind where this would happen in an actual real world scenario is if you had a live concert and after this song finishes there was actually a pause that continued on to the next song you could have these markers marked where the song actually starts and ends and that Applause would still be here on the CD but when you're going from song to song you wouldn't hear it but when you play the CD you would hear that as long as you had this option selected up here to put the audio in pauses and there you go that is all the information that's contained in the section under the CD window so you definitely should have some idea now how to burn a CD if you so desire as always if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go has links to all the content on this channel ever growing and free to use and anytime there's a series of videos like this it's numbered one two three four so it makes it real easy to figure out where you're at and what you want to learn so we move along there's still more information in the audio Montage here to assimilate and learn about and we will continue on until we've mastered it all and that really is the name of the game what we're doing here is coming out of the area of being a novice and moving into the area of being a master and learning that subject to make it your own as always great to have everybody here and I'll see you on the next video
