CD Window V3 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from the digitalaudiomanual.com today we move on to our third video as we continue to discuss the CD window in wavelab Pro but before we start I want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future I'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or Cubase plugins or the cable guys shaper Box 2 and many many other projects that are in the works then I know you're going to find just like I have that this is an invaluable study Aid and the other thing I want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple PDF this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free Okay so let's get started all right so we're on our third videos we discuss this CD window and all the options all the previous videos being in the link below but we want to start out today talking about some of the special buttons that are only on the toolbar in the CD window so when we're up on the top and we're looking at these various tabs and we're at the one that says CD and then we look at this toolbar one of the first things we have that's different and it's only on the toolbar is this display here that shows these numbers which that shows if I click somewhere on a CD track it gives me an exact readout of where I'm at so if the CD is playing or I'm previewing stuff I can see exactly where the readout is on that particular track the next thing that's only on the toolbar is you have the button here for the UPC code so if you have a barcode and you want to put it in you can click on that put it in and then you have that entered and then the last thing that's only on the toolbar there's a little button here that allows you to put the album title in and when I click on that it's back to the CD text editor and let's look at this for a minute because this is a really fantastic little tool with typical Steinberg deviations that are you know misleading so let's talk about them I'm going to give you a prerequisite all of my tracks have metadata in them I took the time when I created these tracks and mastered them to make sure that they had the title and the artist and all that stuff on each track so when I get to something like this the CD text editor everything is a whole lot easier because there's a lot of stuff already been done but let's look at it the first thing it's asking me for at the top is the title now how do I know it's the album title because up here in the picture above it says album if I go to the little scroll bar and I begin moving down slowly it begins going track by track through each one of these songs there's five tracks here so if I pull it slowly I'm gonna see track one track two and it already shows the title because like I said I already took the time to put the title on each one of my songs so that makes it very easy to go ahead I'm going to call this album my CD I'm not going to bother putting in the performer songwriting everything like that but I could put all that in and if I put those in the great thing is they have a little icon here that will copy it to every other song so I only have to do it one time that's a great thing the other thing that is really nice as we go down the scroll bar past the album to the let's go to the first song as I bring it down and it brings up into view the first song which in this case is called that hour next to the title here which is blank at the moment there's two little icons one says copy the CD track marker name and if I click on that it's going to put in that hour in the tie title here and I could proceed to keep going through each track track two and hit that little button the track three but they've also put another great little button next to it but this is where things again read funny when you look at the button and hover over it it says copy CD trick start marker name to all the CD track titles so when you read that you're thinking what's going to take the title I have here and copy that onto all the tracks no it's smart enough to actually take each track individually and post its own title so luckily it does that let me go ahead and do that I'm going to just hit this second little button here and now the track one has its proper title and as I scroll down the list track two has its proper title track three and Etc so it's very convenient the way they've laid out these buttons to fill in information once I say okay to that now it has put my title up here in this little area that was blank on the toolbar and it is also over in the actual CD window filled in the actual titles in their proper places so when it comes to reordering the tracks they made that one a pretty good easy option all you got to do highlight the name and drag it where you want it and all the spacings the gaps everything are in place you don't have to worry about redoing anything you can just reorder these however you want so this particular feature works very well when we're talking about the grouping options it's a pretty vast amount of options uh let me give you a couple of examples because this is something that seems rather simple and yet you can get really lost in all the you know options available if we go up to the CD window and we look at the tracks that we have here and I go to the group option and I click on it and let's say I name group a it's going to write everything as group A's let's say I go halfway down the list I click on one and I go I'm going to call that group b and from that point on it calls those last three tracks Group B now there's two ways where again it just it goes off from this point down many many roads let me show you one example if we go on the render Tab and in the render tab you have options over here on the left that basically allow you to decide what you want to render and how you want to render things off now when you're rendering you're not burning a CD you're going to actually burn off or create another separate file but the options here are a lot let's pick one option going down this list let's go to the one that says all the tracks all the CD tracks in the group I'm going to click that and that opens up a second list which then you can actually pick your group so we had group a and Group B so I'm going to hit group a to start with here so I could begin rendering this off and it would render off only those songs in group a but another thing it does if you go back up into the CD Tab and go back over to the functions menu before we looked at this thing that said generate the audio CD report now if you click on that report you also have options at the very top where you can pick between all the CD tracks or you can do a report on the particular group so let's say I go to group a and I click on that I'm going to apply it hit OK and now I'm going to get a report of only what's in group a and it tells you it's group a over in this info section and you only have those songs in the list so again depending on how many songs you're dealing with and what you're trying to do but your options to sort the amount of songs and send them in different ways and burn them in different ways they've really offered you quite a bit of choice in that area so just like with the CD text when we did this option up here and we opened up the option that said CD text editor if you go back to where we were at functions and go down that list where it says edit the CD metadata again you get this screen that when you first look at it you're thinking oh well this says you know metadata for a track but in fact this is metadata for all the CD tracks if you take your little drop down scroll bar on the right and start pulling it down you will see that it will change from track to track giving you you know information for each track now the concept on the CD metadata screen different from the CD text at the bottom you have a couple of check boxes one says show the custom variables one says show Auto variables Auto variables is basically wave lab filling in all the stuff it picks on its own which came up on that CD report the number of tracks the group things like that or things that you may have put into the CD text editor if we uncheck that show all the variables the only thing we're left with is this show custom variables and the purpose of this is to basically just give you more options things that go beyond what may be in the basic text editor so you can fill in all these information as well now once you've filled something in assuming again you have multiple tracks like I have here at the bottom you have copy the next track and you can easily just keep clicking that through and that will auto fill all the other tracks that follow all right so there you go more tips on the CD window as we go through all the various options that are here some you may use some you may not but we always want to make sure all the tools are there and that you have the option to understand them without being confused later on if you haven't picked up your navigation guy be sure to grab that before you go in the link below has all the content on this channel ever growing free to use and in some kind of order so you don't have to rummage through endless playlists so that's almost all the stuff we have there's a few more things I want to go through on this whole CD window option mostly the wizard coming up in the next video so we'll break that one down for sure and as always it's great when you guys are here I'll see you in the next video
