today we talk about

CD Window V2 in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody Andrew Blake from The digitalaudiomanual.com Today we're moving on to our second video as we continue to discuss the CD window in wavelab Pro but before we start I want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future I'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wave lab or Cubase plugins or the cable guys shaper Box 2 and many many other projects that are in the works then I know you're going to find just like I have that this is an invaluable study Aid and the other thing I want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple PDF this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free Okay so let's get started so last time we discussed this CD window up here under the tab that says CD in the previous videos of course are in the navigation guide in the link below but we're going to start off today's discussion looking at this menu over here that says functions so we click on that and the first thing that comes up is we have an option to write the audio CD which if you click on it you will get this screen that shows up and this is the last thing you're going to see before you actually write a CD so you throw your CD in the player you hit OK and it's going to begin writing now you have another option here in this drop down that goes to what's called a DDP image and that is exactly the same as a CD except for it's a you know burnable image that you would just have on your computer and then that requires a separate DDP player and the whole thing mimics the experience of a a CD many times if you make a DDP image that's what you're going to send to some place that's going to actually burn off your CDs if you're going to have things made in bulk or if you're going to have you know a vinyl record pressed any of those kind of things so if you put in this DDP image you would put all the stuff customer name any information you want hand it down to whoever is going to burn off your stuff and if you hit OK here this Burns this off into a DDP image which again is just a file on your computer which you can't do anything with unless you use the DDP player to actually listen to it but we're staying with burning CDs so I'm going back to the option to burn a CD on this so I'm going to close this window down the next thing you have in this area is the check the CD Conformity so when you click on that it's going to tell you whether everything is good or if you have an issue if you have an issue you're gonna have to fix it then you fix the issue then you can come back and burn your CD so in many ways this is the second to the last step and then the third option here is the CD wizard which we started this whole discussion off with which also comes from from this little shortcut button up here on the toolbar and basically if you always just open up your CD Wizard and hit apply it's going to take all your tracks and set them up pretty much automatically ready for a CD then the next thing in this list up on functions is edit the CD text which again gives you all the metadata that you would want to put onto your CD the title the performer songwriter all that stuff it also has an option that usually when you fill in the first page of this if you have other tracks you can just copy a lot of the information over to the next track and then change the title then you have the option to actually put in CD metadata and this pretty much has standard metadata for the CD composer arranger all that kind of stuff and you would just click over in the value and type in whatever you want if you've already had all your isrc codes typed into a text file you have an option in the functions to actually import from a text file you can click on that it asks you to search on your computer where it is and say okay if you've already gone through and changed all this edit CD text stuff in this screen which is a few options above then you can go down to this next option that's about three or four down it says rename the CD tracks as the CD text when you click that it will conform it to whatever you filled in in that option box then you have an option after that generate the audio CD report which basically opens up a dialog where you can pick things that you want to see it then opens up a cool little HTML file where you can see all the information from your tracks which you could then print out if you wanted then you have some options for playing or basically previewing your tracks you have this one that says play the previous CD track for me this actually just plays the selected track it's supposed to play the one before but it always just plays the beginning of whatever track I have selected and then just the opposite of that you have play the next track and that does jump to the next track and then one of my favorite features in this whole menu is an option that says play all the CD tracks starts and when you hit that it gives you kind of a little preview of the beginning of each track which is really just in my opinion just a great little feature now I have submitted on the form that I would like to see them also add the option to play all the CD track ends because I would like the option to play each one of these ends and see if there's a blip or the Fade Out Is Right without having to click each file and I've actually gotten a response that it's on the list for the next version so we'll see I'm curious to see if they actually Implement that feature and then the last thing in this functions menu there's a little selection you can see that says follow the playback if you check that as your montage is selected or you pick a track and play it up here on the tracks you'll see a green bar show up whichever track is being selected there'll be a green bar by it okay now moving on to this options menu the first thing we have here is called audio in pauses now this is kind of one of those things that I would say is unconventional at best let me tell you what it what it's supposed to be basically for example when you look at your CDs let me zoom in here real good between each track where this track ends and this track starts there's this Gap now you can set this Gap in the CD wizard typically mine is set to two seconds that's a typical length you could set it to anything you want really less or more whatever you think but there are certain standards and two seconds is a good length for it but anyway the idea is with this audio and pauses because obviously when a CD plays it finishes this track and then it bounces and goes right into this track and it doesn't play what's in the space in the middle typically when you're listening to a CD you hear the song again and you hear the next song Start but you can in essence put a little piece of audio in this paused area basically kind of what they call a hidden track and if you have this thing checked on the options menu that says audio and pauses when the CD gets burned so will this little audio bit in the middle now I have never used this feature I'm not going to necessarily endorse it it's kind of a novelty in my opinion but I guess from what I've done on research for it you if you want to make advantage of it or listen to it you actually have to begin the next track and if your CD player is capable of it rewind a little bit and then you'll be able to hear this audio beginning before the next track so in case you're encoding some you know encrypted Espionage message that you want to get to somebody with this hidden audio there's your feature yeah coming up we're going to talk about reordering the tracks which is really basically just simply dragging and driving them but the next thing in the options menu here says preserve the post pauses when reordering so what it's telling you is if that's checked when I move let's say I move this track around this pause that comes after the track this is what's going to stay in intact on the other hand if it's unchecked it's going to pay more attention to the pause that comes before the track in the situations where people are using time code maybe syncing film to sound or some other kind of time code operation in your options you have this thing that says show the times relative to track one basically that's telling you the track one is going to set the beginning of where the time code starts going further with the whole time code thing you have an option that says show the time codes relative to the CDs absolute zero and that just means whatever the CD's beginning point is that's going to set the time code also in the options it says time code with CD frames or time code with milliseconds when you look at your start and end times they are displayed in hours minutes seconds and then these last numbers are either CD frames or milliseconds and they will change depending on what option you have here we talked about that pre-roll and those buttons if you push this pre-roll button everything always starts with a pre-roll if you want to mess with that pre-roll option and you go to options again and you go down to edit playback times you can actually fine tune your pre-roll if you want and then the last thing of the options gives you the ability to customize the toolbar you can open this up change where the buttons are change their order any number of things like that so there you are more tips on the CD window as usual if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go links to all the content on this channel ever growing and free to use so after the last video did everybody go out and burn a CD of their music and if you did were you able to find some place to actually play it that's the question right but it is fun there's nothing like a CD it has its own sound that's for sure all right as usual great to have you guys here see you in the next video
