today we talk about

CD Window V1 in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody andrew blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we are going to begin a series of videos examining the cd window in wavelab pro but before we start i want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future i'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or cubase plug-ins or the cable guys shaperbox2 and many many other projects that are in the works then i know you're going to find just like i have that this is an invaluable study aid and the other thing i want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple pdf this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free okay so let's get started all right so we're in the montage and we have five different uh clips here assembled you know songs really and we're gonna burn a cd that's the goal all right so we go up to this top area and we hit the tab that says cd now if you don't see the tab that says cd go to your tool windows and look down that list for cd and click on that now we have a tab that says cd and we click on it when this thing is working as we need it to be it's going to show these five songs five clips whatever you want to call them in this window but if you look in this window there's nothing here in fact this information that we do see are just headings but there's just a blank screen here so the first thing we need to do assuming we have some clips down here in the window is look for this little icon that says the cd wizard kind of a circle with some lines on it we click on that and we're going to get a bunch of options which we're going to learn about these options but we don't need to know them right now just understand that usually they're all preset in there if we go ahead and hit the apply button a couple of things occur first of all on our clips we now have little markers on each clip these are called cd markers these little red markers when we look up into the cd tab we now see that it is populated with the five songs and this is where it all begins at this point we can now make changes audition all any number of things in this cd window but step one is make sure you have some tracks step two make sure you hit the cd wizard to get them into the cd window now the first thing we're going to look at on each one of these clips where the name is there's a little looks like play buttons in front of it these are in fact two separate buttons they look like one because they're all connected close together but they are actually two separate buttons and the very beginning part of it is to play the clip with a little bit of a pre-roll so let me take say this song i'm gonna hit the little button that says pre-roll and the song begins to play now what does that mean pre-roll well we can't see it when we're zoomed out like this so let's take this song i'm going to zoom way in and as you can see i'm moving my cursor around here if i put it right at the beginning of the clip hit my space bar it begins playing the song all right but if it starts back here somewhere there's a bit of a gap and silence that's the pre-roll so when you hit these buttons which is on the far left here begin with a pre-roll it will start this clip but it will start from you know a little ways away here with a pre-roll watch i'm going to hit it and you can see the cursor started from way over here on the left hand side and then worked its way into the clip on the other hand if you go to the right side of this button then it will start right from the beginning of the clip let's do that so you have those two choices you can play it with a pre-roll or you can play it right from the beginning an extra little shortcut is to go up to the red marker if you hold ctrl and double click that that will also start your clip right from the beginning you can change these names of your songs right here in the window you can double click and type in a new name if you want moving on over you have a column that says group and you can click on that column and then you're given these letters from a to z if you want to group things one of the benefits of the group is that you can then render off certain groups when we get into rendering we can talk about that but you can actually define these groups if you define a group let's say i call this group a and it fills them all in as a so let me change some of these other ones to let's say b now it also tells you for example group a has these two tracks if i hover over group a it tells me exactly how long it is in this case five minutes if i hover over the b group that tells me that one is six minutes you can always go back and hit the group again and there's an option that says none when you hit none it clears them all out as you move along you get to this option that says pause and as i look down my list it gives a little two second pause this stuff has all been defined when we go back to the cd wizard let me open that up again as we're looking down the list in the cd wizard it says right here adjust the pauses to two seconds which i could change to anything but what that is on each track especially as you're burning a cd it leaves this gap or space between one track to the other you can change that you can make it smaller bigger whatever you want but this starts with this two second gap going further pretty much for information purposes it tells you where each track starts where each track ends and the length of each track when that cd wizard sets up these markers there's a certain amount of space between the marker and where the clip begins and when the clip ends and where the marker is at these are known as pre-gap and post-gap and those amounts of time are shown in these columns you have a little lock column back up in the window allows you to check whether you want to have a protection on your tracks this is for certain cd-rom drives we'll read this and understand it you have this little column to check whether emphasis has been used on your cd tracks that's kind of a special technique that's used when a cd track is created if you used it this allows you to show it it doesn't add or remove the emphasis column for your isrc codes if you have them you can actually enter them right in here on your cd tracks you have a column that says cd text and you can click on that and then double click it and that actually opens up like a metadata screen where you can fill in all kinds of information about your track and then this last column you can actually enter comments and that's something you can add in there per track so there you go some tips on the window in wavelab we have some other things to look at here in these different menus we'll get to those in the next video as always if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go has links to all this content ever growing free to use and there to help you to study and there to help you review you can grab that at the link below so i leave you with the question when was the last time you actually made a cd if some of you users have you ever made a cd well i gotta tell you i pulled some cds out and i burned a couple while i was making this video just for the fun of it and i gotta say there's a huge benefit to actually burning a cd and then taking it to the stereo system of your choice and that has a cd player on it still and playing it you will get a perspective on your music that you may not get any other way especially if you only listen online you can consider making cds out of you know compilations of your songs and maybe some other reference songs together on the same cd and again you will get an extremely valuable perspective on things so that's going to wrap it up for this one and as always it's great when you guys are here i'll see you in the next video
