Working With Score Layouts in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiummanual.com today let's talkabout working with score layouts inCubase but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe free content navigation guide whichis an easy to navigate webpage withlinks to all the content on this channeland besides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so the idea of the layout isa kind of takes a snapshot of thevarious elements you have so you cancreate different layouts in case you'regoing to use your score with differentinstruments different from you know thefull score you might have 10 differentinstruments in the original score thenyou want to make a layout with just oneor two of them to give to one of themusicians or the way that you're goingto print your score out the way you wantit to look but let's start looking atsome of these options begin with we'regoing to do this we're going to go up toScores menu we're going to come down tothe settings and on the settings we gotthe project the layout the staff and thetext we want to go to layout and when welook at the layout we have these optionsand what these options are telling usfirst of all is what tracks we havewhich in my song is just two tracksalthough one of them is split into agrand staff that has a base and a trebleclef but it's still considered one trackif that's confusing if I come out of thescore you can see I just have two trackshere but when it's displayed in thescore one of those tracks is twodifferent staffs the first thing I wantto show you is when you're looking atthis layout tab and you see this optionin my case it has these two tracks youhave these little check marks here let'stalk about what these do first thing youhave here is a letter T which stands fortime signature but it's kind of aspecific time signature different fromwhat we have here there's an option toshow what's called modern time so we'rejust going to skip that one for themoment but now this next option it showsthe letter N this is what shows thenames of the tracks so you can see howmine it says work piano and in the listit says work piano if I uncheck thisboth of these and hit apply then thenames of those tracks on my score goaway then the next option shows theletter L and that stands for the layoutsymbols things that are layout symbolsare stuff like this rehearsal marks Iput over here so if I uncheck this andthen I hit apply those rehearsal marksjust went away if I temporarily go overto the staff tab here I have a displaytransfer pose setting where everythingis raised up and active so when I goback to my layout this final little dstands for the display transpose and ifI uncheck that and hit apply then thosenotes that were up and octave now godown an octave and they show where theyoriginally were then the last optionshows if you want to put your chords inhere you can only do one track at a timewith that but if I hit apply on that andI have some chords they're going to showup on my score so the first thing you'regoing to want to do with these layoutsto take advantage of them is to startlearning how to save them and open themas I close the score if I start byselecting all my tracks and opening itup in the score first time you do thisCubase automatically creates layouts foryou but you're going to want to makeyour own and name them and to do thatyou want to go to scores settings andthen go to the layout tab and you'll seethe tracks that you've selected here andthe first thing you want to do is goover and give this a name I'm going togo ahead and call this my test layoutand you hit apply now when I close thisbefore I do anything else let's createanother layout say it's a different partthis time I'll just select the chordtrack open it back in the score and if Igo to my scores and my settingssame thing it'll show the track ortracks that I've selected give it adifferent name I'll call this the chordsonly layoutgo ahead and apply itand then close this score out so now ithappens if I come back to scores I havethe option right here at the top thatsays open layout and if I click on thatthis gives me a list of all the layoutsthat are saved and if I go to the onethat says my test layout and I doubleclick on it there it is I get myoriginal layout the way I created itthen if I go back up to scores again andI say open the layout and this time Icome down to the new one that says thechords only layout double click on thatand then I have this layout so by savingthem and renaming them you have quickaccess to how you want your scorepresented and possibly even printed sonow let's talk about removing theselayouts if we go up to scores come backdown to our settings if you look over onthe left of my screen I have all kindsof layouts from the past that were justcreated in projects that have nothing todo with anything anymore so I have twooptions I can just click on one to startwith then I can come down to thisfunctions drop down and I have an optionthat says remove and just like that it'sgone and like I said I have all theseextra ones that are just irrelevantdon't belong to anything anymore so thenI can come down to the option that saysclean up and if I click on that justlike that a whole bunch of layouts thatno longer matter are gone hit applyclose this up if I have a layout thathas a bunch of symbols in it that I wantto use again for example this one hasthese rehearsal marks or it could haveany number of things if I go tosomething different I have the option togo back up to my scores settings pickwhatever layout has all the symbols I'mlooking for and then I can come down getinto this functions and I can say getform hit apply and whatever was in thatlayout will get imported into thislayout if I've created a marker trackand it has markers in it and I've set itas an active marker track come down tomy score and then I go back up to themenu and at the bottom we have an optionfor advanced layout and at the bottomyou have an option that says markertrack to form click on that it puts themarkers in but it also gives themdifferent labels whereas if I go to myscores come down to my Advanced layoutbut then I go to this option that saysdisplay markers assuming I have names onmy markers then that will show just thenames of the markers and then your finaloption with the layouts assuming you'vebuilt something that you really like yougo back up to your scores down to yoursettings and then this time in thefunctions list you go down to exportthat opens up something on your computerwhere you can just save it with a namecreate a folder if you want we'll callthis test layout save it and then if atany time you want to bring it back insame thing you can go down to the dropdown list and import it hit your applyand then that layout opens up inwhatever you have here and that's whatthere is to layouts all right it's goingto wrap it up for today as always if youhaven't grabbed your navigation guide besure to grab that from the link belowthis video it gives you quick easyaccess to all the content on thischannel ever growing and free to usecontent is in order being updatedcontinually and it's there to make thelearning a whole lot simpler so that'swhat there is to layouts we looked atthe tnldc we learned how to create closeand open our saved layouts we learnedhow to remove the layouts and do somecleanup we saw how to import symbolsfrom another layout we saw how we canshow markers in the layouts and then wefinished up learning how to export themand import them we are really gaining onthe knowledge of the score there's nottoo much left from what I can see whichis quite amazing because when I startedthis I figured we would never go throughit all but we're getting close and we'regoing to continue on until we finishthrough now as always it's great to haveyou guys here and I'll see you on thenext video
