The Master Section V7 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our seventh and final video as wediscuss the master section in wavelabbut before we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wave lab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime that videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started and we've been going throughall these features and functions in themaster section for quite a few videosnow and all the previous videos as usualare in the navigation guide in the linkbelow so let's look at the speakerconfiguration pane as always you canclick it to hide it and actually beforewe get into that let's talk about theidea that you actually have to hide allof these panes if you want any one ofthe headings if you right click on ityou get the option to check or uncheckthese different tabs for example thislist shows your speakers or your finaleffects or your playback processing soif I go ahead and uncheck you know anyof these or all of these and it staysopen allowing me to uncheck them all andonce I've finished the only thing I'mleft with is these Master Level theaterswhich you can still hide those if youwant by clicking on but if you rightclick back on that particular tab thenyou can bring all these back into viewagain so you definitely have somecustomizing options as far as how themaster section looks so this tiny littletab for the speaker configuration isbasically where you can set up all yourspeakers and where you can change yourmonitoring volume without worrying aboutwhat's being rendered if I play my songI can freely turn this monitoring buttonto turn the volume up or down you knowjust to set my monitoring by andwhatever is comfortable but I don't haveto worry about how this is going toaffect the rendering off option hasnothing to do with the gain or anythinglike that so this is great you know it'sjust a tool allows you to you know setthe volume where you want it on the leftof this you have these buttons thatallow you to set up these four differentoptions for your speakersand typically when you want to set upyour speakers the long way around youwant to go up to your file again down toyour preferences over to your audioconnectionsand then into playbackor even recording or some of these otherones but let's just stick with thisplayback tab and you have a drop downlist that basically gives you all kindsof options whether you're setting upsome kind of stereo or another surroundor multi-mono or the DVD audio just allkinds of options for your speakerpossible configurations now depending onwhat you pick let's go to the surroundoption to start with you are given asecond drop down list which typically ishuge gives you like just all kinds ofoptions so instead of you having to sithere and create these they're all dialedin you basically pick one that matchesyour speakers let's go to the 7.1 outhere and it gives me a feel that I justwould populate with whatever speakers Ihave and assign my speakers to that youknow surround sound system and I coulddo that to any of these I can go to theDVD audio I can get the drop down tochoose some of these other you knowextravagant more elaborate optionschances are if you have a speaker systemthat's more involved than a stereosystem you'll already know what it isyou're looking for so it's just a matterof going here picking whatever that isyou have and then picking thesubcategory and then assigning yourspeakers to it so once you've assignedyour speakers then you can just easilychoose them if I have a stereo on myfirst button I can hit that if I havesurround sound on my second button I canhit that and down the line whatever Ineed to do to hear my different speakersnow if I don't want to go through allthe menus to get there they've alsoprovided a button right here that youhit and it immediately again takes youto that main screen now for any speakerconfiguration you set up you always haveto set up some kind of bus we talkedabout that already you just hit the plussign here to assign some kind of bus orthe minus sign whatever you need onceyou've created a bus you can call itwhatever you want like if I'm going tomake a surround sound I can just doubleclick on this call it surround and thenI can go about the specifics of choosingwhatever speaker configuration I needbecause there's four buttons down hereif you're going to use in these fourbuttons then you want to pick in a strapdown the first drop down the differentspeaker Arrangement now I have a speakertwo speaker three and speaker fouravailable so say I wanted to pickspeaker three I could pick that one giveit the assigned speaker configuration Iwant call it what I want and then whenI'm back in this area over here when Ihit speaker three that's where I'll behearing my sound coming through allright concerning the subject ofbypassing your master section effectsusing wavelab and dealing with thismastering situation in general theconcept of potentially mastering yoursong Twice is definitely an idea youwant to completely understand you bringin an audio file into wavelab and youset up some mastering plugins you knowEQ compression and all those things andthen once you've mastered it off and youwant to listen to it you definitely wantto make sure that you're not listeningthrough it right back through thoseeffects a second time in essencestacking the same effects on top of itthere's a couple of things that wavelabdoes in the background but you also havecontrol and you want to be aware of itwhen I take this montage where I havethis file right hereif I'm listening to it and I want tohear it without the mastering effectsthere's an option down here in the lowerright with some little stars and the oneon the left says bypass the mastersection it's like two little stars ontop of each other and if I hit that itlights up and starts to flash what itmeans is now this montage is no longerplaying through those Master effects ifI turn that back off again then all themaster effects are back in place if I goup into the master section I have abypass button that does exactly the samething turns them on or off many timesdepending on how you set your options ifyou do a render and then you have aseparate audio file rendered when youlook down here at this little startypically you'll see it flashing becausethe rendered file has been set to notreplay through the master effects againso the last thing down here after thespeakers you have a little button thatsays render now we've done multiplemultiple videos on rendering and Irecommend that if you have questionsabout rendering in general you want togo back and watch those videos but youhave a couple of options here if you'regoing to render you have the render tabwhich again we've discussed some detailon all these options but if you use thisrender button it's really the same thingexcept where it gives you everythingkind of laid out in one screen minusactually seeing your file but forexample on this render tab you have theoptions for the different kinds of filetypes and the options presets if youhave them the option to name your filesand file location all that stuff andwhen you hit this render button youroptions and your tabs for all yourdifferent kinds of rendering optionsit's all right here on one screen soit's just a matter of which way youprefer another option down on the renderbutton if you right click on it youactually get a bunch of little shortcutoptions one actually being the renderbut you have one that says render inplace this is an option that is reallyonly available in the audio editor itallows you to render just like it saysrender in place on an actual piece ofaudio remember that the audio editor isdestructive editing so I try to alwayssteer you towards working in the Montagebut there is that option here renderwith the last settings and then there'sone that says create batch processor ifI click on that it opens up my files inthe batch processor with whateverplugins I have in my master section nowthere's already a whole series of batchprocessor videos and the navigationguide so feel free to check those outbut I'm going to leave that one foranother time what I do want to show youis some of these other last playbackprocessing plugins you have here onebeing this mix convert again this isbasically built to help you if you havesurround sound you want it down mixthings at some point we could probablydo a video on this as well but you havethe option to open up these variouspanels if you're playing your song youcan audition you know the differentspeaker configurations on the input andoutputand allows you to just set up variousdifferent kinds of down mixes and that'sgoing to wrap it up as usual if youhaven't grabbed your navigation guide besure to grab that before you go haslinks to all the content on this channelever growing free to use always beingupdated with the latest information andhopefully making it something that nexttime you get in the middle of somethingthat you're not sure what it means orhow to do it you can just click a coupleof links watch a short video and you'llbe up and running so that completes theinformation on the master sectionhopefully now you're not intimidated byit you have some basic idea of how thesignal flows through the thing and canmake use of some of the great tools thatare available there I know for me someof the highlights that I just continueto enjoy is the fact that you can set uppresets you know so I can clear out themaster section at any time when I needto and I can just hit a shortcut key andbring all my plugins right back in I canlock my meters in case I'm worried aboutthem movingI have all these great resamplingoptions if I need to test stuff I canadd different speaker configurations Ihave a monitor button at the bottom tojust change the volume as I need to Ijust personally find this thing souseful and of course as always on theplug-in Windows themselves the fact youcan always test out the wet signal andhear the effect of that only that issuch an educational option to help youunderstand what effect differentprocessing has on your actual audio soall in all wavelab continues to be anamazing program in so many ways allright as always it's great to have youguys here I'll see you in the next video
