The Master Section V6 in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto the sixth video as we discuss themaster section in wave lab Pro butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we're on the six videoswe continue to discuss this mastersection in wavelab Proall the previous videos as usual are inthe navigation guide in the link belowalright so as we get ready to look atthe playback processing tab which againhas all the usual functions you can openand close it if you want but knowingthat this playback processing isbasically just for analysis andauditioning your files in various waysvarious tools to use down here but theyhave nothing to do with actually what'sbeing rendered off and sometimes somepeople like to actually set up aseparate monitoring system so that theycan hear around this playback processingas an option to compare it so the firstthing if we look over next to it there'san option here that says the output busbefore playback if I click on that minesays None to find so in order to usethis the first thing we have to do isset up some speakers to you know usethis and the way we do that is we goover to our file over on the left godown to our preferences and then up tothe audio connections and go over to ourplayback and at this point we can set upthese buses and you really can set up asmany as you want if I click is addingthese buses in and by the same token ifI highlight something hit the minus Ican take them out of there but let'shave this one bus I'm going to call itbus three here and once you do that yougo over to this option says the buscategory and if you hit this down arrowthere's an option here that says beforeplayback processing so if you click onthat now you have to set up the actualspeaker so I would have to click down onthis port pick speakers if I have themavailable I will pick a couple that Ihave here available and now if I go downto my playback processing and I hit thatlittle icon like I did before now I havesomething that says bus three and I cango ahead and highlight that if I wantand that will now send my audio out tobus three and I can audition itcompletely removed from any playbackprocessing that I have here so itactually gives you an option to kind ofskirt around the playback processingdown in the playback processing click ona slot to actually load an effect andthen once you've loaded it all the usualthings you have another monitoring Pointoption here you have another button fourpresets you have various effect optionsagain all these are the same as beforeand then you have the bypass button andonce again on these monitoring points ifyou click the monitoring Point down herein the playback processing then yourfinal meters are going to read fromright from this point but if you don'thit the monitoring Point as always inthe master section the last meters arealways reading after this final effectsdithering area all right so the firsttool let's talk about in this playbackarea if we right click down here and godown to the Steinberg folder let's pickout the one that says encoder Checkerand the idea here is that you can pickvarious formats MP3 or iTunes or otheroptions like that and then click throughthem and hear how they sound compared toyour original sound and then you canhear if there's going to be a problemwhen things get encoded and then makesome choices from there so let's do itreal quick here you can see there'sthree different slots here and you haveoptions to put three different formatsand in here so let's go for the coupleat least let's go to this first one andI'm going to navigate to the factorypresets and I'll go down to the one thatsays MP3 and I'll pick a real low 128kilobyte uh MP3 file then I'm going togo to this next slot go back to myfactory presets go to the encoder andI'll go to this first category and I'llpick the one that says iTunes once youget that going it's just a matter ofplaying your fileand then you can hit these numbers infront of the encodingsand immediately you can hear if there'sgoing to be a problemset the iTunesso fortunately for me I don't hear anydifference at allnow to make sure that we don't foolourselves we have the option to do someblind tests which means that it's goingto allow you to make choices but you'renot going to know what the choices areyou're just going to have to pick it onwhat you think sounds goodyou can include the original sound andthe encodings or you can just do itbetween the encodings but let's do onewith the original sound and the twodifferent encoding so I'm going to clickthat a little check mark and immediatelyeverything goes to a question mark Andnow when I play this I won't be able totell which one I'm listening to now theway you make your choices is you useyour up and down arrows which you won'tbe able to see but I'm just telling youthat's what I'm going to do is hit theup and down arrow and every time I dothat it'll make a different Choice thenI'm going to go over on the numberkeypad and I'm going to hit either theplus key or the minus key and I can hitit really as many times as I want if Ihit a plus and a plus that's two plusesyou know I can either hit a plus orminus basically a like or a dislike butlet's go ahead and hit the song and I'mgoing to hit the down arrowand I'm going to say okay that one'sokay I'm going to hit Plusand I'm gonna hit the down arrow againand I'm going to say nope I don't likethat one I'm going to hit the negativeand I'm going to hit the down arrowagainand I'm going to say oh I really likethat so I'm gonna hit the plus two timesonce twice and then I'm gonna hit thedown arrow again and I'm gonna say uhjust a negative for that now I'm goingto stop the file and again it looks likenothing's changed we still got thequestion marks everything's here wewon't see any results until we uncheckit so if I uncheck it now I can see theresultsand what it shows me is for the iTunes Ihit the plus two times for the MP3 I hitit negative one and then my originalsound I had one like and I had onedislike so basically you can look atthese results and see if that matches upto what you liked and didn't like if Idetermined that this iTunes which I gavetwo pluses to is actually my favoritechoice and that's the one I want I canselect that one and now I can go downhit the open render Tab and that fillsin my render tab with the iTunes optionin this case and I can now render thisfile offpretty nice operation now you have acouple of shortcut keys just for fun ifyou want to use them as well when you'relistening to these comparisons as I playmy songif I hitup on my number Keys up on the top if Ihad number one it'll switch to thenumber one option and if I hit numbertwo it'll switch to the number twooptionif I go down and hit the period on mykeypadit'll go back and hit the original so ifI have my hands on number one number twoand the period I can just quickly makethese choicessuper convenient let's look at some ofthese other options if I right click onthis and I go to the Steinberg folder goup to the one that says analyzersupervisionwe could do a whole video on this atsome point but right now I'm just goingto kind of roughly preview all theseoptions if I set up a loopand then you can see right now it's gotthe level meter and if you go up towhere the preset areas here or theactual choices you can just use yourmouse wheel and move down through themlet me just preview them real quickyeah well all kinds of different optionsdifferent loudness metersgood Spectrum curveI'm just spinning the mouse wheel overall theseforeignsounddefinitely some interesting stuff let'sgo back to this wave Circle I want toshow you something that's fun to dosometimes sometimes it's fun to actuallylook at a meter while you're adjustingsomething just to get a real idea ofvisually and how it goes with your earsin this example I'm going to play thiswave Circle and then I've added acompressor onto it I'm going to bringthe threshold way down and watch what itdoessee that you can see how the compressoris taking the signal downI'm going to start bringing it up slowly[Music]definitely a good way to help your earsand your eyes coordinate what you'rehearingand then it's backed all the way upI find these things to be veryinteresting and educational to mess withall right we're going to wrap it upright there as usual if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that before you go has links to allthe content on this channel ever growingfree to use all the videos are in orderand constantly updated you can use ittoday or three months from now when youneed to remind yourself of somethingso I thought we were going to wrap it uptoday but it turns out there's stillquite a bit of stuff so we'll break itup and we'll try to finish it up on thenext one so from this video you can messaround with the encoder checker try todo a blind test and see how you do withthat and use your supervision meters andcheck out some of those options asalways it's great to have you guys hereI'll see you in the next video
