hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today let's begintalking about the master section inwavelab Pro but before we start I wantto remind you that there's a link belowto the free content navigation guidewhich is an easy to navigate webpagewith links to all the content on thischannel and besides that in the nearfuture I'm going to begin adding tipsand other bits of information that willonly be available there you know thingslike simple steps that will get youstarted and up and running quick thingsthat are in the videos but are writtendown in simple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wave lab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper Box 2 and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos are orchange really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started the master section the finaldestination in wavelab if you look overhere on the right we're looking at themaster section it's this kind of blockof various tabs and meters thateverything you've done previously inwavelab now passes throughso to have an understanding of themaster section and to say that's fairlycritical well that's just one of thosethings that for sure you want to beaware of the effect it has on your finalproduct I have heard from manyprofessionals that they don't even usethe master section they turn it off andhide it away others of course do use itme personally because I love everyfeature in wavelab and like to exploitit to the end result I find the mastersection to be a fantastic tool full ofRich features one thing to be aware ofas we begin here is knowing how to seethe master section turning it on and offif you go up into your tool window menuup on the top left you usually see theoption for the master section if youclick on that and it's visible it goesaway it hides it at the same time if Igo to Tool windows and master sectionand click on it again it brings it intofull view the master section is on a tabjust like most of the other things inwave you can actually grab it on dock itmove it to a different areayou can resize it if you want or do anynumber of things and then you can rightclick on the top and usually there's anoption that says dock to the last placeagain and it'll put it right back whereit was originally let's bring it backout here again because it's easier tosee so as we're looking at the mastersection it's comprised of six differenttabs and I have these all open at themoment and if I click on any one ofthese tabs it starts to hide what'svisually available here and if I closeall those tabs the master section thentakes out a totally different look soyou can open and close those dependingon what you want to work on or you canjust like me leave them all open all thetime these six sections are comprised ofthe effects tab resampling the MasterLevel meters the final effects ditheringthe playback processing and your speakerconfiguration The Meters that you haveon wavelab most of them take theirreadings from this area between theMaster Level and this playbackprocessing areayou also have options here where you canclick on certain effects to get themonitoring point where the meters readwe'll talk about that more as we goalongso then you have the bypass up here nobig deal on that you turn it on turn itoff you want to bypass your effects inthe master section then you have anoption for live input if you have amicrophone or instruments or whateverand you want to actually record liveinto wavelab you can just click thislittle button herethis is set to respond to the renderingoption so if I hit my render then I'mgoing to want to hit the option in myrendering that allows me to do it inreal timeso then I go back and I hit mymicrophone turn it on I hit my start I'mreal time rendering and then I get thisdialogue about input recording hit therender and as I'm talking I can see theway being written up here of course Ihave the echo on because I'm monitoringat the same time I'm listening to myselfturn this off turn this live input offnow I have that recorded and as I'mtalking now the thing to pay attentionto on that next to the microphone youhave a little drop down and you can pickwhat you want to input so I went towherever my microphone was and I justchecked that and away I go but thiscould be any number of things you knowyou could have a band you could havesome kind of field recording you'redoing or other devices you have hookedup whatever you need you just select ithere and then you can record it allright now the next few buttons up hereare loaded with amazing useful optionslet's look at these first you have yourpreset area and if you regularly use themaster section you're going to want totake advantage of the preset area whenyou click on it you're given all kindsof save save as options and in my caseyou can see I have all these presetsalready created here one of the firstgreat options is that you can organizethese presets into folder hierarchiesif I go up to the top option here itsays organize the presets if I click onthat I get a little display that'stelling me exactly what I just said andthen a screen on my Explorer opens upand it shows me where all my presets arestored at that point I can createfolders and name these folders whateverI want to do just like I would normallydo and I'm going to take all thesepresets I'm going to put it in thisfolder hold shift the usual foldermanagement stuff drag it up into thefolder so now I have my folder onecontaining all these presets if I closethis out I preset drop downautomatically and immediately reflectsthat so all those presets are gone outof view and if I look down here I havefolder now all my presets are neatlyorganized if I have some of these that Iwant to move into a more convenientfolder I can change them again justwhatever I need it's just so convenientgoing further you have an option here todefine a shortcut if you have certainpresets that you use a lot you don'twant to have to search for them everytime in your list what you want to do isgo ahead and load it into your mastersection the way you would normally useit hit the Define shortcut option andthat'll bring up a screen where you caneasily just hit some kind of keystrokehit OK and then that preset is now setto go with one easy keystroke anytimeyou make a change going further you havesomething here that says open theoptions when you select a presetthat's telling you that when you selecta preset you're going to get thisoptions dialog which gives you all kindsof do you want to replace or overwriteor any of the number of things you wantyour plugins to show up when you loadthem or keep them hidden or restore acertain visibility you have an option tostore temporary presets so you cancompare them really quick just load itwith great options and then the littlegold mine next to it the smart bypass ifyou've never used this you'll definitelywant to experiment with this sometimeyou click on it the concept here is thatyou can add effects in this mastersection and then with this little screenyou can compare with everything beinglevel matched and you can hear thedifference whether you've improved orcaused more damage to your soundwe can do a video on Smart bypasssometime but the basic concept is putsome effects in here hit the updategains button and then when you hit thisfirst bullet point you're going to hearyour original audio when you hit thesecond one you're going to hear theprocessed audio but it's going to belevel corrected and then the thirdoption will give you what the processaudio is not level corrected just abrilliant little tool to have and it'sfree and it's included on wavelabalready your next button allows you tototally reset your master section if youhave things going on you don't knowwhat's going on or you just want to hearthings without any effects in here makesure everything is set to zero again hityour little reset button and everythingis Zapped out of all the different tabsat once and all your meters are reset tozero everything is back to square onethe great thing about that is if youtook time to set up your presets thatyou use with your shortcut keys like wejust talked about now I can hit ashortcut key like I havemy preset will show back up I can hitenter and it's immediately put rightback in place and then the last optionhere you have settings various optionsabout how plugins are shown or hidden orhow you want things to load up everytime you start wavelab you can turn thevarious panes on and off and then youhave an option to monitor a 16-bitdithering basically the concept here isthat if you turn this on it's supposedto make it easier to hear what'shappening with your dithering plug-inbelow that you have this rearrangebutton I have found this come in is likewhen you're changing the differentspeaker configurations maybe you'regoing to a surround sound to stereo andwhen you do things like that the faderswill reflect if I turn this intosurround sound I may have six differentfaders here sometimes when you change itdoesn't automatically reflect visiblywhereas if you hit rearrange everythingwill update and give you an accurateVisual and then if you ever get lostwhen you're working on wavelab you hitthe help button at the bottom takes youto the Steinberg help site and you cango from there of course they shouldreally change this to taking you to thedigital audio manual but hey I guessthat's in the works all right that's awrap for today as usual if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that before you go links to all thecontent on the channel ever growing freeto use consider it your LearningResource to get to things you need toget to quickhelp you find things without beingconfused provide answers to thequestions you have and when you need toreview something it's always right thereso the master section I have to say whenI first started using wavelab I meanright at the very beginning when I firstdownloaded it as a novice user I couldswear that it seemed like my songs andthe sound of my songs was changingjust being in wavelab and I couldn'tquite figure out what it was and Iremember posting numerous things on theForum trying to get answers and nobodyseemed to be able to answer what I wasstruggling with as I look back now itwas probably because there was somethingon the master section or something inthe chain flow that I just wasn't awareof yet so these are the kind of thingsthat definitely the more you understandthe less likely you are to havesurprises or Mysteries or anything elsein terms of what you think is happeningto your music sometimes there may besomething in the chain and you don'teven know what the chain is so it's veryeasy to get confused and that's why westudy things like this the mastersection understand what's happening withthe signal flow where it's going howthings are affected and ultimatelyhopefully get us all to make bettermusic and realize what it is we'retrying to say and accomplish all rightas usual it's great to have you guyshere I'll see you in the next video
