The Imager in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today let's havea listen and look at the imager inCubase but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe free content navigation guide whichis an easy to navigate webpage withlinks to all the content on this channeland besides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so here we have the imagerplugin what exactly is it it's basicallya stereo width enhancer but it has fourbands to work with we'll look at thosecontrols in a second but let's have abasic listen to it it only has a handfulof presets and they make quite adifference in the sound so I'm justgoing to preview through them for youreal quick I'm going to start with adeactivated then I'll kick it inforeign[Music][Applause][Music]thank youI can tell you this wide mid and highmade quite a difference I'm going to goback to that for a second I'm going toturn it off play a little bit and thenturn it on for you foreign[Music][Music]Improvement on the song so let's look atthis thing first of all I'm going toclose it out show you where you find itif you go to any channel effect and godown to where it says spatial and Pannerthen you have the option for the imagerthen you hit the e it opens it up andthere it is the first thing to notice isit has a number four up here or it couldhave something different this is whatchanges the bands you can just hit theselittle arrows and it'll either add orremove these bands you have a buttonthat says live if you turn it onbasically it's less latency we're goingto turn that one back off you can dragthe crossover bands around to change thefrequencies on any of the bands that youhave you can grab the button in themiddle to change the amplitude of it ofcourse it's a song's play you can see aspectrum display of the song you havethe output meteronce you've created the bands you canhit this little button if you want toturn them on or off so you can decidewhich bands are actually in use or youcan solo the bands let's do that realquickforeign[Music]has its own phase scope so you can kindof see a picture of what's going on onthe bands themselves as you can see downhere in the low band it's almoststraight up and down showing that it'salmost completely in mono if I go tothis little mid band and I startbringing the width downyou can see the same thing it's almoststraight up and down or if I turn it upall the wayit gets more of a spread this is how youcan see and hear the stereo field thepan knob as you turn it once it becomescompletely left it lines up with thisline if I go completely right it linesup with this line and then you canbalance it you know if there's somethingslightly off you want to make arebalance of your pan you can change thewidth on each band as you want and youcan see the spray letting you know howwide it is or notit's great for visually and hearing itat the same time if you don't want tovisually see all those meters you have ahide buttonall right so we saw what the imagersounds like in a full mix but what if wewant to just put it on a singleinstrument like some hi-hats like thislet's open up the channel and put it onhere and I'm going to play itso we really don't want to affectanything down in the low end so we'lljust turn that off[Music]and we can see that the energy is up inthe high mid to the highs let's go aheadand expand this High mid up herelet's expand the band up hereand I'm going to turn the width up onthe highs toolet's see what happens if we take thepan on the midsand the pan on the highsthose bypass ityeah if you have headphones on you candefinitely hear thatlet's try a pad hereI'm going to remove all of these bandslet's put in two bands I'm going to turnoff this little band herelet's try thisturn it offnow if we play this LoopI can disable the insert effects meaningthat stereo effectlisten to the difference without thestereo spreadingthat's a huge differenceback onno doubt so the imager can make a hugedifference in your sound alright solet's do something a little bit over thetop here let's take this orchestralpiece here please[Music]and everything's kind of broken downinto groups I put all the strings into agroup I put the horns into group and Iput the woodwinds in the group startwith the strings let's bring our imagerinto this and the first pass was with noimager let's widen up the mid and thehighlet me turn it on hereturn it back offlet's see what happens on the horns ifwe bring it inturn it offand let's bring it in on the woodwindsand see what we have[Music]let's see what we did to our OrchestraHall now[Music]thank you[Music]fun stuff all right it's gonna wrap itup for today as always if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that from the link below this videoit gives you quick
