The Controller Display V2 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from Thedigitalaudiomanual.com Today we'removing on to our second video as wecontinue to discuss the controllerdisplay in Cubase but before we start Iwant to remind you that there's a linkbelow to the free content navigationguide which is an easy to navigatewebpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there you knowthings like simple steps that will getyou started and up and running quickthings that are in the videos but arewritten down in simple steps that serveas quick reminders when you needinformation down the road if you'reworking with programs like wavelab orCubase plugins or the cable guys shaperbox and many many other projects thatare in the works then I know you'regoing to find just like I have that thisis an invaluable study Aid and the otherthing I want to make sure you understandis that this is not a simple PDF this isa constantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so we're on the second video nowin this discussion of the controllerdisplay and the previous video as areall the videos as usual in thenavigation guide in the link below butlet's start off today looking at some ofthe copy paste options if I were to takesome of these notes these last threenotes for example drag over and selectthem and do control X which does a youknow cut and then I move over to let'ssay this measure six here and I do acontrol V to paste them in that behavesexactly as you'd expect it puts thenotes there the other notes are stillthere if I take these four notes hereand I'm going to drag them over to thenext bar[Music]and then while I'm still with my cursorat this measure here if I look down onthis menu there's an option here thatsays paste at origin if I click on thatit takes whatever I have on theclipboard which was these three notes Imoved and paste them back wherever theiroriginal place was so let's move themover at this last barwhen you hit this controller Lane optionhere that shows you all the differentcontrollers availableyou can see as we said you have allthese different controllers and it showsthe little diamonds next to it and ofcourse this is where you have your cutcopy and paste but this menu also ispretty much identical to down belowwhere it actually adds the controllerLanes if you click on that then the samething you get that you know list of allthe different controllers that you haveset up the difference is that on thisbottom one with the plus sign you alsohave this option at the bottom thatallows you to show all the usedcontrollers so as you can see we havediamonds on a few of these on thevelocity the pitch Band After touch if Ihit the show I'll use controllers I getall of those Lanes back in view if I goto the little down arrow next to it tothat context menu I have that option wetalked about before where I can go tojust show the velocity Lanes only and itremoves everything but that so you havethat quick option between showing justthe velocity or showing all yourdifferent controller Lanes at onceso one thing to keep in mind as you'reworking in this controller area realizeand think that you actually havebasically four different context menushere to be aware of the first one beingright over the option to change thecontrollers which this one kind ofrequires a left click on it to actuallyselect it but then if you do a rightclick in the area below it you haveanother context menu that has some ofthe same commands but slightly differentif you go down and hit the createcontroller Lane you have some moreoptions almost the same but slightlydifferent then you have this controllerLane setup which again has some of theoptions but slightly different so whenyou're looking for something that youwant to change just be aware you havebasically those four different optionsto go through and probably be able tofind what you're looking for sodepending on what kind of event you havein the controller area here will dependon you know how it changes for examplethis velocity it turns into a pencilwhen I stand over and if I start to drawit it gets smaller or higher up thescale now you have have an option up onyour toolbar if you want to hear thechanges as they happen like a littlespeaker it says acoustic feedback if Iturn that on now when I draw thisyou can hear the velocity increase ordecrease[Music]if you have a bunch of controllers onhere like now I have you know pitch bandand after touch and modulation andthat's just making these notes soundkind of wobbly when I play themif I go to and I right click and I sayremove this Lane this takes the lane outof the mix hereas far as actually seeing it in thedisplay but if I play my noteswell they still sound wobbly so I'mobviously still using the controller soif I go back down the plus sign show allmy used controllers again I can see thateven though I removed the lane thecontrollers are still in place if I wantto actually get these controllers out ofhere I want to do a right click in thisarea I want to say select all the eventson the lane and then just hit my deletekey and that will remove these thingsnow if I play these notesit's back to normal the controller lanesare all still here now again instead ofhaving to remove all these Lanes all Ihave to do is go down to this functionsmenu again say show the velocity Lanesonly and then I'm back to a simple viewof one lane when you're down here in thecontroller Lane when you're up here onthe notes you can just click with yourmouse you know and grab them with yourselect tool and if you hit somewhere upin the notes again it unselects them butif you try to do that down at thecontroller Lane it like stays on thispencil and if I draw over it or I clickand drag over the only thing it does isdraw more things I can't actually selectnotes the way to get around that is holdyour ALT keyand then it turns into a select tooldown here and then you can just clickand drag over one note or many noteswhatever you want to do and that way youcan grab your controllers that way likewe talked about before if I selectsomething here and I do that when I altand drag I can then go up onto the inthis case grab the velocity I can moveit up or down if I want on this infoline I can hold alt select over multiplecontrollers go up on the info line dragthose up or downand you remember we talked about in oneof the previous videos if I hold controland click on it then it puts everythingall at the same level velocityif I let go of control and drag then Ican drag them all and they'll staytogetherif I want to draw some of thesedifferent velocities I have a coupleways again I can just hit it one note ifI want or I can just take my pencil anddraw holding my mouseanyway I want any velocity value likethatback or forthor I can go up to the line tool if Iwant a straight line and just drag overall of them makes one straight linemakes everything at the same velocity ifI hit my list of controllers here and Imove it to pitch Bend instead and then Ido a ramp draw with a line tool againwherever my cursor is in this case it'sway over here at bar 8. it also showswhat the actual value is here over inthis area right under the pitch Bend allright that's going to wrap it up fortoday be sure to pick up your navigationguide as usual from the link belowhas links to all the content on thischannel ever growing and free to useconstantly being updated and the purposeof it is to help you find what you needwhen you're struggling with things andyou want to find answers and you don'twant to have to dig through the manualand trying to figure out where to startand how to solve any kind of problem sotoday we did a bunch of things we lookedat this pace at origin and we talkedabout showing the used controllers thatdifferent options in the menus thatthere's four different menu spots to beaware of talked about using the ALT keyto select the controller data in itsLaneI think I'll stick those notes in thenavigation guide so if you want to testyourself and see what your skill levelis you can check those out so again whatwe're trying to solve here is just tomake it so when you have to deal withthings like the controllers you're notcompletely lostand if you ever do get lost well youjust click on a couple of review videosand Away you goas always it's great to have everybodyhere and I'll see you in the next video
