today we talk about

Surround Sound V3 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we moveon to our third video as we continuediscussing surround sound in qbase butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the contentnavigation guide which is an easy tonavigate web page with links to all thecontent on this channel and besides thatin the near future I'm going to beginadding tips and other bits ofinformation that will only be availablethere if you're working with programslike wave laab or qbas plugins or thecable guide shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youokay so let's get started so we've beendigging into the VST multi panners onething to understand with these in orderto get to all the functions of courseyou want to open the Panner up you dothat by going to any of your channelsand just double clicking on the Pannerbut you can also do a certain amountright on these small miniature pannersif you click and drag on it you can movethings around you can see on the rightthat it reflects a lot of movement onthe full Panner you can also hold shiftand that'll restrict the movements alittle bit and when you're in theinspector you also have a tab that saysthe surround panwhich you can open that up and thenwhatever controls are available you'llhave some access to those as well at thetop of the VST multi Panner you have theusual controls from mute solo read andwrite your automation but the bypasseffect actually tries to put things backin Stereo One thing when it comes toautomating the parameters it's not justone automation Lane that'll be writtenif you don't get it right on anautomation pass typically it's betterjust to try to make another pass thecenter circle is your Sound Source theyellow and red dots represent your leftand right front spe speakers and anyblue dots are all the other differentkind of channels that you can have youcan take your Sound Source anywhere inthe room by dragging it around but whenyou switch to the overview mode you canactually pull your Sound Source rightout of the room to try to get someextreme panning effect when dealing withthe sound source and your mouse you canbasically either click on it and drag itwhere you want it or click anywhere withyour Mouse and The Sound Source willbounce to the mouse pointer previouslywe've talked about how we have theserestrict movement buttons up here justbe aware each one of these has its ownmodified Keys as well for example thisfine scaled one says shift meaning if Ihold shift that'll temporarily light upcausing a slower movement but I canrelease shift and it'll go right back tothe free movement and all these havesome variation on it you can experimentthis one says control if I hold controlrestricts everything to horizontal movesonly and each one of these buttons havedifferent modifiers for those of uslooking at these different things likethis rotate knob it may be hard tounderstand what we would possibly usethis for something like this comes intoplay when you have sound sources to filmand just like these speakers go aroundthey would capture the same thing as acamera turns around things like thisorbit Center knob which has this countershot button flips everything 180° thesekind of things can be used when twopeople are talking and the perspectiveis switching from one person to theother so we've looked at theseDivergence knobs they add these bluelines left to right top to bottom andthe back area what's really happeningwith these and the center control knobas well it's just allowing you to spreadthe signal around a little bit so it'snot so Stark in a particular speaker forexample your center speaker when it'sturned all the way down the sound iscoming only from that speaker maybe youwant a little bit of a spread to yourleft and right speakers just so it's notso Stark into one speaker and it's thesame with all of these the front thefront to the rear it just allows you tospread the sound a little bit betweenthe original speakers that it comes fromand the other speakers the same thingwith these scale knobs as you reducethem things are going to move closer toone spot and as you turn them up you'regoing to have more space it's front toback or left to right when you'relooking look at the Panner you'rebasically looking at the 2D panning and3D panning on the right things move onthe right and you can adjust the knobsto change the height in the elevationbut when you use these elevation buttonsup on top you then get kind of apredefined elevation and you'll findthat as you move the 2D area aroundwhat's happening on the right willfollow particular patterns so itrestricts the elevation to moving incertain ways this knob adjusts bottom totop elevation the minute you start usingany of these patterns this knob becomesinactive as we said before qbase makesuse of this constant panning lawwherever you move things front to backleft to right panning laws will makesure that the Sound Source stays intactbut you will see some kind of graphicrepresentation in the 2D area to let youknow when something may be differentaudibly than where the pan is actuallytaking it so the VST multi Panner is thedefault Panner that's set up for thesesurround sound configurations you haveother Panner choices if you right clickon these mini panners and go to thechannel Panner you have options for themix conver invert a renderer for DolbyAtmos standard Panner and an Ambidecoder for example if I go up to thisrenderer for Dolby Atmos then I get thisobject renderer we'll be looking at thiscoming up for now we're going to leaveit on the VST multi Panner sometimes invarious situations when it can't handlethe VST multi Panner sometimes you'llsee this mixed convert show up and thishas similar options but it's moredesigned to bring surround sound intostereo so we've looked at this VST multiPanet for a while let's close this downgo to the this channel go to our Panneroptions and switch it to the mix convertand let's examine this a bit if it openslike this one did here you have optionswith these arrows to open up the inputand the output sections so we have aninput we have an output and we have acenter section on each of these inputand outputs the main thing is you canclick these speakers to Solo or hear thedifferent channels any way you want onboth the input and output on the leftand right of the center section it showsyou what the channel configurations arethis plugin can also be used as aninsert effect if by go down to anyinsert on a channel and I hit mixconvert difference when it's used as aneffect you also get a drop down arrownext to the output which then allows youto change the output for example thestereo and then I could just solo thestereo buttons If you hover over any ofthese channels they tell you what theyare when you click on them they go solobut you also have the button in themiddle or a plus sign which allows youto solo the LF Channel instead ofhitting a bunch of different solochannels you have these kind of Masteron and off buttons If you hit this firstone you hear everything coming throughthe center Channel if you hit this oneyou hear everything coming through thefront channels same thing with thesebuttons on the left and the right if youhit this one it says solo the inputfront channels automatically turns allthese on and mutes these other ones solothe LF solo the input surround solo theside channels solo the top channelsbecause we switch the output to stereothese options won't apply over here butyou could hit the left or right speakerand then you have individual gaincontrols for every one of your channelsand then a master gain any of these canbe reset if you hold control and clickon them and then where the VST had thereset button up on the upper right thereset parameters on this one is downhere same thing you want to hold altwhen you click on it and everything goesback to its defaults one other goodshortcut to know is hold shift when youclick any of these channels and thatwill mute that one channel and make sureall the other ones are active shiftclick it again to return it to normaland then the last thing to look at todaywhen you do your file exports when we'relooking at the export audio dialoguethere's an option as you come down thatsays export as if you click that and yougo to the option that says split thechannels it'll take your surround mixand Export everything as a single monofile for each surround Channel if youleave it on inle then it mixeseverything together and that's going towrap it up for today as always if youhaven't already be sure to grab yourcopy of the digital audio manual contentnavigation guide from the link belowthis video it's the faster better way tolearn and review pick it up look it overall the different topics that aregathered there and then you two can getstarted on your path to a better way tolearn all this stuff as we continue tolearn about surround sound in Cubase wesaw the miniature view we looked at theplug-in controls and talked aboutautomation we talked about the SoundSource position how the mouse effectsThe Sound Source we looked at theRestriction modifiers talked about theDivergence controls looked at some ofthe elevation patterns and the 3D panlaws talked about changing the defaultpanners and then we ended up talkingabout the mixed convert and some of itscontrols and we will continue this nexttime as always it's great to have youguys here and I'll see you on the nextvideo
