Surround Sound V2 in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we moveon to our second video continuing todiscuss surround sound in Cubase butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the contentnavigation guide which is an easy tonavigate web page with links to all thecontent on this channel and besides thatin the near future I'm going to beginadding tips and other bits ofinformation that will only be availablethere if you're working with programslike wavelab or qbas plugins or thecable gu paper box and many many otherprojects that are in the works then Iknow you're going to find just like Ihave that this is an invaluable studyAid and the other thing I want to makesure you understand is that this is nota simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorit it's my gift to you okayso let's get started so we began thediscussion last time of the surroundsound system for qase today we're goingto start exploring a little deeper infront of us we have the VST multi-Panner once you start setting up achannel in surround sound if you clickon the Panter in the mixer then you getthis and the first thing to talk aboutis that the vstd Panter works on aconstant power panning law and the ideahere being that as you move thingsaround in the field front to back leftto right anywhere you move it you'llexperience where the sound is movingspatially because it's under constantpower you won't hear the left get softeror the right gets softer As you move itaround it maintains a constant level nomatter where you move it in the fieldfirst control we have an extendeddisplay if we click on that then we getexactly what it says an extended displaythe second display is more for a 3Dpanning along the top we have movementrestriction buttons and these are quitefascinating in how they operate thefirst one offers a standard movementwhich means as we grab it we can move itaround pretty freely then we have a finescaled movement everything moves in verysmall increments you can restrict it tojust horizontal so if you try to drag itup or down you can't only left or rightsame thing vertical only up and down andnot left to right you have diagonalmovements one way then the other andthen you have an interesting button thatsays jump to position handle in thisexample is a center handle right nowwhen I click somewhere in the displayeverything moves my mouse pointer stayswherever I click but if I enact thisbutton the minute I click it jumps rightonto the position handle and then thefinal button allows you to move the leftand right channels in independentlyright now everything moves together if Iclick that and grab the Left Channel andmove it as I want and then grab theright Channel and move it as I want asyou're working with this Panner if youmake all kinds of adjustments indifferent ways and you move your fieldaround in different ways up in the rightthere's a reset parameter you have tohold alt when you click on it but thatputs everything back you have the inputlevel meter you have a different viewoption initially you have this top viewwhich gives you a picture of the SoundSource in the room then you can click onthis overview button and it kind ofgives you a picture of the impact ofthose sounds as you're looking at yourroom you have the speakers on thisdiagram if you click on one of thesespeakers goes red allowing you to solothat speaker if you go to anotherspeaker and click it it also goes red ifyou back out of this and then click themagain it disables everything but youhave some option Keys If I click thisand click this one over here then holdcontrol and click on this one it eithersolos it or mutes it exclusively if Ihold all click on one of these speakersit will disable it and like I said if Igo over to the reset and hold alteverything goes back to its originalthen you have the output meter over hereon your positioning buttons you have aleft right pan you have a front rear panmoving over you have one that rotatesyou have this orbit center button whenyou're doing the rotate the center axisremains exactly where it's at but whenyou move this orbit Center the right andleft still go around but the centerspins as well then you also have thiscounter sh shot which moves everythingby exactly180° observe when you're using thisorbit knob that you have this one handlethat shows the center of the room if youuse this radius knob next to it thatmoves that center of the room and thenyou have a different radius of wherethat Center spins around which alsoaffects the left and right observe youhave a front Divergence front rear andthen the rear Divergence observe whenyou turn these knobs that you get theseblue lines in this case it goes fromleft to right at the Top If we go to therear one it goes from left to right atthe bottom then if we go to this frontto rear there this blue line going fromthe top to the bottom notice on thewidth knob that it changes the distancebetween the left right and Center someof these controls you can't use becausethey depend on the configuration thatyou're working with and then the lastone here the LF you have the ability tochange the amount of that so anotherthing to be aware of if you're notalready as we create these surroundbuses I'm going to go back up to Studiodown to the audio connections every timeI hit the add bus button and I selectone of these from the listand then add the bus it shows up in myoutputs here but it also shows up in themixer just like I have a stereo outevery one of these surround outputs alsobecome visible as outputs now I havenone of these routed I just created themso they're only visually available buteach one has a different kind of panningsome of the basic surround ones you getthe VST multi Panner that we've beenworking with but as you get moreelaborate on the surround sound outputsyou get a different kind of multi Panneras well and as we get into the AmbiaSonics as we click on those panners weget a completely different one I'vetaken every single kind of surroundsound output and put it in the mixer soI can go through them and compare thembut be aware you can do this as well soeven if you don't use them you can havea visual of how they operate so when youget this multi Panner this is the sameas your VST multi Panner this is whereyou start to see the 3D option and thiscomes into play when you start using the7.12 or 7.14 as we get into the DolbyAtmos discussion on the left I have a7.1.4 on the right I have a 7.1.2 andjust looking at it you can see somebasic differences on the way the handleslook if you go into thethree-dimensional room you'll see on the7.1.4 there's handles up on the top herefrom this back screen area on the 7.1.2there's no handles there so as you putthese up and look at them for yourselfyou can see various differences in orderto get these visible on the screen Ijust went to the mixer and clicked onwhatever Panner I wanted to see so Ihave a channel for 7.2 and a 7.4 justopen those up so I can look at themthere are some similar buttons to theregular Panner you have a show hide forthe actual extra window but one of thedifferences on the 3D Panner you alsohave a set of these elevation buttons upon top which are fun to click throughand just see the differencesvisually if you click on them again itdeactivates it just like before if yougrab the center AIS you get all kinds ofdifferent perspectives as before you cango up to alt and click this reset to puteverything back you have the overviewmode which again gives you more of apicture of the effect in the room at thebottom of this it says top view becauseyou're looking at it from the top of theroom but if you go over on the right itsays rear view because now you'restanding in the back of the room lookingat it if you look at these pan knobs youhave one here that says the bottom toppan if you turn this all the way to theleft you can see all your speakers go tothe very bottom which totallydeactivates any speakers at the top ofthe room move it all the way to theright everything does the opposite itmoves completely to the top of the roomnext to that you have this elevationbutton which totally deactivates thisability to go top to bottom and as youget into this stuff deeper these kind ofthings can actually be autom you havethis button that says tilt the signalaround the Y AIS this actually makesthis look like a washing machine cuz allthe speakers go round and around theroom let me turnthis quite a fascinating adjustment andthen the same thing for the tilter onthe x-axis everything starts spinningfrom the back to the front it's almostlike having baseballs thrown at you andwe're going to leave this discussionright here for today as always if youhaven't already be sure to grab yourcopy of the digital audio manual contentnavigation guide from the link belowthis video faster better way to learnand review pick it up look it over allthe different subtopics and topics thatare gathered there and then you too canget started on your path to a better wayto learn all this stuff as we continuedour discussion today on the surroundsound and qase we talked about constantpower in the VST panners we had ademonstration and saw how the buses showup in the mixer so you can use them todemonstrate no matter what variation orconfiguration you're interested in thenwe finished off with a short discussionof what the 3D screen looks like on theBST Panner as we continue to learn aboutall these different topics and subjectsin qbase as always it's great to haveyou guys here and I'll see you on thenext[Music]video
