Spectral editing V5 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our fifth video as we continuediscussing spectral editing and wave labPro but before we start I want to remindyou that there's a link below to thefree content navigation guide which isan easy to navigate webpage with linksto all the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wave lab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime that videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we're moving on to thefifth video now on the subject ofspectral editing and the previous videosand all videos for this channel are inthe navigation guide in the link belowbut let's talk about what happens whenyou transcode text into your spectrogramso when you're going to do this thefirst thing you want to make sure you dogo down to your spectrogram options downhere which we've talked about alreadyand whatever color scheme or whateveryou use here oh go over to the frequencyscale option and set that to linear justrecommended if you're going to do anykind of text transcoding but first ofall let me play what we're dealing withhere we got this piece of audioforeign and to do this we want to makesome kind of selection so I'm going totake the rectangle tool which thenlights up this icon with a little T onit stands for text and then I can typesomething in I'll just type in the wordtesting I hit OK and there you get theselection with that word written inthere I've commented before when I'vedone videos with this spectral editingthe first time I did something like thisI expected wavelab to go testing when itwent through it but it doesn't read thewords what it's going to do is it'seither going to drop these frequenciesout at these exact positions of thewords or you can add in noise at thesepositions the whole point here is tokind of add some kind of Watermark intoyour audio basically to stamp it as yourown audio in case you're sending it outand you want to make sure it's protectedas your own so again after just typingit and then playing it againright now you're hearing no differenceif I go up into the processing area andI take the option for change level and Iadjust this to whatever option I wantdepending on how much effect I want I'mgoing to spin it all the way down as faras I can go down to negative 144 now I'mgoing to hit apply and then I'll hitescape and you can actually see the wordtesting has now been written right intothe audio here it's almost Shadow likelet's play this and see what effect ithadforeignso basically almost inaudible at thispoint you can see the words in here andanybody that sees this in anotherspectral program of any kind is going tosee this in here but right now it's notmaking any real audible effect let'scontrol Z out of this for a minute I'mgoing to move it farther down into thefrequency and you can grab this and kindof drag it wherever you want it let'shit apply down here and let's play itnow see what we havethere becomes very obvious so many timesthe farther down in the frequency youdrag it the more obvious the soundbecomes if we want it to be more seenand not heard if we drag it up into thehigher end of the frequency then I'mgoing ahead and apply it again it'sgoing to be more seen but not heardreally can't even tell it's there let'suse some of these other processingoptions let's go to the option if we uphere go down and put in some brown noiseI'm going to select that on this exampleI'm going to put the gain up a littlebit more in the positive but I'll put itat plus five and I'm going to go aheadand apply it I'm going to escape so wecan see it and there it's very visiblein terms of seeing it let's hear what itsounds likelet's move it down the frequency fartherlet's apply itlet's hear what it sounds likethat's very obviousso besides putting text in you can alsotranscode a picture right into youraudio you want to start by making somekind of selection of course you canalways change the selection area butI'll use a rectangle to make a selectionhere you want to go over to theprocessing area in this drop down andtake it down to where it says transcodea picture at that point you want to kindof make some kind of selection on whatyou want it to do do you want the gainto be positive or negative right now I'mgoing to drop the gain down a little bitand then you want to hit the supplybuttonand the apply button will open yourbrowser where you can choose a pictureso I'll just click on this picture hereand you can see it's now inserted thatpicture right into the audio file and asI play itthat's what your picture sounds like sothen you have the option to even applyMaster section plugins to yourselections to maybe take an EQ and dropsomething out or any kind of otherprocessing let's go back we have thissound againlet's take my rectangle tool and I wantto select this little section of thespectrum here and go up on my toolbarand say solo The Selection so I can hearitactually let's bring this one down to alower section be easier to hear it playthatthat's pretty obvious now let's say I goover to my master section and I pick outat EQ go down to Steinberg EQ frequencyI'm gonna go ahead and turn my Loop playoption on here go back to the selectionplay itand if you look up at the frequency itis very obvious where that littlesection of sound is showing up verystrongly here so typically what I wouldwant to do is take thatand drop it out but for the sake of thisdemonstration I'm going to actuallyamplify itso we can hear the difference I'm goingto move frequency out of the way but nowif I go into my processing area and goto my drop down list I have an option inhere that says Master section so if Ihit that and then I go ahead and hitapply you can see it's changed colorsand made some changes here I'll go backto the beginning of my audio and play itlisten to the differenceit's obvious that it has eq'd thissection hereso let's have some fun I have an examplehere where I'm talking but I have alittle fan going on in the backgroundlet's listen to this real quicksothere is the fan noiseso all this area where I'm not talkingthere's like a fan playing in thebackground there let's switch over tothe spectrogram and look at it and rightaway it's pretty obvious that this areahere these tall Peaks are my voice butthis long picture in the background isobviously the fan so how do we attacktrying to get rid of it well let's trythis let's go to our magic wandand let's just click on it see what itdoesand that made a real good grab at itlook it took all the frequency up to thevoice skipped over the voice took somemore of the frequency at that point itkind of stopped and we would have to gofurther this way but we're just going toleave this part alone for a minute let'sgo ahead and take this down to the fullamount of 140 negative 144. we set it tochange level and let's apply thisand again I don't know how well you cansee it in the video but it completelyremoved the picture of the backgroundfan wavelet's play it and see what we havesothere is the fan noisethat actually did very good let's go onto the second half here I'm going to goover on this on the other side of myvoice and click with the magic wandand that only clicked a little piecelet's try selecting a different areaagain it's kind of clicking and going upinto the voice let's try and clickanother areaAh that's pretty good right there yougrab most of the frequency and left thevoice alone let's go ahead and drop thisout see what it doeslet's play it from the beginningsothere is the fan noiseso a couple of things I'm hearing it inthe middle here and I'm also hearing itstill over here on the end if we escapefrom thiswe can see there's still a largeselection of the frequency up here inthis area right here let's click withthe magic wand on thisand that did real good in terms ofgrabbing it but look how much it wentover into the voice I would imagine ifwe drop this out probably going toaffect the voice let's do it just tohear it I'm going to drop it outlet's see what it did to the fan and TheVoicesothere is the fan noisewell that did pretty good actuallyI'm going to control Z out of thisso just for example sake if I wantedjust this part removed but I wanted tokind of keep this part not being touchedif I go up and I grab my brush nowinstead of the magic wandand I set my options to remove theselection I can come over here with abrush and I basically can just paintthese out of here so that it doesn't doanything changing to this partso there I removed all that let's applythatnow I can see that there's still nowthat I've done that it makes me awarethat there's still this piece right herelet's go ahead and put the wand back onlet's see if we can snag this littlelong piece herethat did a great job let's drop that outapply itlet's see if we can do the same thinghere I'm going to grab this piecebut look I grabbed my voice again let'stake this let's go back to the brush I'mgoing to just paint over that and wipeit outlet's drop that out hit applythere's some residual stuff over herelet's grab the wandLet's see we can grab from thisfrequency that's left over hereif we go if we take this part and thenwe go to our options again and we do theone that says add to the selection wecan keep grabbing these other piecesthat it's missinglet's grab one more hereoh look at this this is doing greatlet's drop this outnow let's hear this from the beginningsee what we havesothere is the fan noisewe still have some fan noise right inthe sound itself let's see let's see howsurgically we can get with this I'mgoing to go into the voice part I cansee it kind of in here I'm going toclick on itand that grabbed a lot more than Iwanted it to so let's do this let's goup to the wand we have an option to dothe time expansion let's bring that timeexpansion way down a bitand as we bring it downwe can see what it's grabbing it's doinga much better job right there it'sgetting just the selection I want let'sdrop that downnow let's see we got from the beginningheresothere is the fan noisethis is really amazing so obviously wecould keep playing with this and keeprefining it but the ability to go inhere and surgically grab this frequencyand pull it out this is totally amazingall right that's going to wrap it up fortoday as usual if you haven't grabbedyour navigation guide be sure to grabthat before you go has links to all thecontent on this channel ever growing andfree to use content is organized bysubjecthopefully when you have a question it'llget you to the answer a lot quicker thanjust searching all over the placeso the spectral editing what a tool Imean wow if you spent just a little timeto get the techniques of this stuff downyour ability to clean up your audio orfind the problems and just remove themin ways that you could never do tryingto just cut the pieces of audio up justamazing stuff but that pretty much wrapsup what's available in terms of waveLabs spectral editing now again there'sa full spectral editing program that isavailable out there and there also aresome videos on the spectral layers inthe navigation guide if you'reinterested in that alright as alwaysit's great to have you guys here I'llsee you in the next video
