Spectral editing V2 in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're goingto move on to our second video as wediscuss spectral editing in wavelab Probut before we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate web page with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wave lab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime video videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we're on our second videoas we get back into the subject ofspectral editing the previous video andall videos on this channel are in thenavigation guide in the link below butlet's start getting into some of theoptions on the actual Spectrum tab againif we have an audio piece in our audioeditor and we go up and we have thesevarious tabs to pick our options if wego to the one that says Spectrum we nowhave a set of tools dedicated to workingwith the Spectrum now we began goingthrough these Spectrum options in thelast video and there's an amazing amountof options here but you also have thislittle quick access at the very bottomdown here in the bottom left right belowyour option for the Spectrum and waveletwhere you can make a quick change on thedisplay and the magnitude of the pictureyou just grab it and you can move itfrom left to right and same thing on theother side is one that brings theintensity in left to right if you're notseeing this little slider it's becauseup in the actual settings of the firstbutton here you have a little button tomake selections and you have to have thesame check that says show magnituderange below the Spectrum and the waveletdisplay all right so next up we havethese selection tools if we click on thefirst one we have a Time selection whichbasically allows us to click and dragover any specific time that we wantanytime you grab over an area of timethe other area of time is deselectedthen we have the rectangle selection thedifference on the rectangle selection isit doesn't necessarily go from top tothe bottom all the way you just make alittle rectangle wherever you want it onthe frequency although once you havedragged it you can go to any area andexpand it at the top or the bottom ifyou want then you have a little playTool a little speaker that you can clickallows you to audition the soundsthen you have the lasso selection whereyou can click on it and basically youcan just freely draw you click onsomething and you just drag it aroundwhat you want it to be on you'll see alittle Marquee line as you go around youcan bring it back to where you start andthen it makes that selection then youhave a paint brush which allows you tograb and drag across any variousSpectrum you can change how big or smallthe brush is there's a little lever hereif I make it really large then I go andI drag it across I can grab a largerarea and then you have this thing calledthe magic wand and the best way to usethis is definitely just experiment withit when you click on it basicallywhatever thing you click on whateverSpectrum you click on it will try itsbest to grab anything relative to thatas far up and down the Spectrum as itneeds to go for example when you look atthis piece of audio right here it hasdifferent kinds of Shades and you coulddraw a lasso around this different shadeif you want but with the magic wand youcan kind of just click in it somewhereand it will try to find that shade whichcorresponds to a certain frequency andjust draw the whole thing you havesettings in there where you can changethe time or the frequency and that justbasically changes how big of a selectionarea it'll make then you have thislittle magnet selection and thiscorresponds to either your lasso or yourrectangle for example if I'm using thislasso tool it's pretty much freestyle itdoesn't like Snapped anything when I'mdrawing it it just moves along but if Iturn this magnet on then it's going tokind of snap to different areas of thefrequency and then you have this thingthat's the selection mode and when youclick on it you get three differentoptions the new selection add theselection or remove from selection so ifit's on the new selection let's say I'musing the rectangle here every time Iclick and drag it's going to make a newselection basically deselect theprevious one but if I make a selectionand then I go back up and I change it tothe add selection then I can continue tomake rectangle selections as I go alongand then the last option on there if youhit it it says remove from selection andthis basically allows you to draw withinor around your selection and it will cutthat piece out of itso regarding the selection mode and thisnew selection add selection removeselection there's shortcut keys set uphere but actually the quick modifierKeys is just to leave this on newselection all the time and then if I usemy rectangle and I make a selectionwhat's going to happen is every time Imake a new selection it's going to voidout the old one or I can just hold theshift key and I can continue to makeadditional selections or I can hold Ctrland shift and I can do remove selectionsto take little pieces out of it when yougrab any of these selections you canfreely move them around but you canrestrict the movement by holding shiftand then it only goes left to right orhold alt and shift and then it only goesup and downand anytime you want to just clear allyour selections hit the Escape keyso then you have this option forharmonics coming up I'm going to try toremove this little beep that I have inmy sound[Music]and I can identify it right here is thislike ladder I can see before that hitsthe snare soundas you can see in this particular soundyou know it's very distinct thedifferent harmonics that are going upthrough this sound and you can sit thereand try to click on them and try to findthose different sounds but for exampleon a sound like this if I go up to mymagic wand and I click on it and then Ijust go over and click any one of theselittle stepsthe wand can figure out that that's whatI'm trying to get is that little stepnow if I go to this button that shows methe harmonics which is right over to theright of it it has all these numbers totry to pick out the different harmonicsfor example if I hit this number six itkind of shows that it went up to the sixharmonic and selected that or I can picknumber eight here and it went to numbereight and tried to select it but thereal beauty of something like this youhave an option to just hit all so if Ihit all and it will do its best to findevery single harmonic going up and downthe scale here you can experiment withdifferent frequencies and differentharmonics if I go to a different sethere and hit it with the magic wand thenI go up and hit the frequencies and hitall sometimes I'll get a different setof frequencies going up and down next upyou have this option that says editsettings and if you click on that youhave two options here one of them saysshow the resizing frame right now on myoption it's checked if I grab the wandtool here and I make a selection on thishold shift maybe hold make a couple ofother selections you will see thatthere's the select collections butthere's kind of like this little Marqueeframe around everything that allows youto grab the front of it and extend it ifyou want or grab the back side andextend it if you want or even grab itand you know raise it up higher or lowerat an angle if you need to if you go upto this edit settings and you deselectthe show resizing frame you can stillgrab your selections and everything willmove as a group but if you look for theframe on the outside to resize itthere's no more frame there let's turnthat back on again for a minute whenthings are in the group like this andyou have these various selections youcan at any time double click on one ofyour selections which makes thatparticular selection independent and nowyou can move that around if you need toif you double click on it again then itgoes back into the group with theresizing frame around itif I go and uncheck this option thatsays group editing now everything isindependent without double clicking itif I need to take one of theseselections I can move around as I wantto freelyand then if I go back over and recheckthe group editing the frame comes backon and then everything moves together ifyou have your region selected but thenyou decide you want to get rid of one ofthese you just right click on it andthen you have an option to deselect thisregion which will take that one out ofthe mixand then as we said before if you justclick anywhere you basically deselectwhatever you had and reselect somethingelse or you can always just hit escapeto get rid of these selectionsso you'll notice if I go back to myrectangle tool and I make a selection italways selects both the left and theright channel here and if I hold shift Ican keep making multiple differentselectionsand I can hit escape to get rid of allthis but you also have this channelselection buttons so if I don't want touse the stereo field I can use a singleChannel maybe my error is off only onone channel so then I can make aselection on a single Channel or theother channel either way and same rulesapply if I hold shift I can makemultiple selections if I do this and Iclick on the other channel thatselection moves to that channel so I canbounce back and forth even after I'vemade a selection if I decide I want togo back to using both the left and theright I can go back up to this channelselection and just change the otheroption without clicking anywhere it'llautomatically make the selection on bothchannels all right it's going to wrap itup for today as usual if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that before you go at the linkright below this videohas links to all the content on thischannel ever growing and free to usethere for your benefit and for mybenefit you can use it today or threemonths from today whenever you have aproblem that you need more answers toso we've been dealing with a lot of theselection options on the Spectrumediting and wavelab we haven't yetactually changed anything or startedmoving the sounds around but believe mewe are going to do that I find it veryuseful and a whole lot less frustratingif you have a good grasp on how to usethe selection tools and speaking ofwhich we went through various things onthe slide or below the tabs and thedifferent selection tools we looked atthe various ways you can make selectionsor remove Parts within your selectionswe took a look at the harmonics optionand a really good option of being ableto double click in your selections andmove specific areas around and then weended up with the channel selection onsingle or both channels as we continueto move through all these features inthe Spectrum editing options in wavelabas always great to have you guys hereI'll see you on the next video
