Score Text and Lyrics V2 in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're goingto move on to our second video as wecontinue discussing the score editortext and lyrics in Cubase but before westart I want to remind you that there'sa link below to the free contentnavigation guide which is an easy tonavigate webpage with links to all thecontent on this channel and besides thatin the near future I'm going to beginadding tips and other bits ofinformation that will only be availablethere you know things like simple stepsthat will get you started and up andrunning quick things that are in thevideos but are written down in simplesteps that serve as quick reminders whenyou need information down the road ifyou're working with programs like wavelab or Cubase plugins or the cable guysshaper box and many many other projectsthat are in the works then I know you'regoing to find just like I have that thisis an invaluable study Aid and the otherthing I want to make sure you understandis that this is not a simple PDF this isa constantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so we move on to the secondvideo on the subject of putting in textand lyrics in our score previous videoand all the videos for this channel arealways in the navigation guide in thelink below but in this video we're goingto pick up kind of where we left offwhen we start talking about block textin the last video we inserted thislittle piece of block text over herewell now that we have it we actuallyhave some options for customizing it ifI double click on this then I get thisRTF settings RTF being a rich textformat kind of a standard text settingtype of thing but the first option hereyou have a drop down for the fonts andyou just get all your list of all yourfonts you can put in there you can justpick one and click on it you hit OK thenyou get this great selection of thatkind of font there is no apply as you goso you have to hit OK each time the nextstep is you have size you can just putyour mouse wheel over there and spinthat and that'll go anywhere from 25 allthe way up to 500 percent if you spin itdown anything less than 100 percentyou're definitely going to get a smalllittle piece of text watch this reallyshrinks it down next option you have thedraw frame see how there's a framearound this if I don't want that I canuncheck this then it just leaves my textfree without any kind of outline thenyou have the word wrap typical if Iuncheck that and say okay you may notsee all your texts if you choose thatoption you may have to go to the cornerand kind of click it and drag it to beable to bring all your text into viewand then the last two buttons kind of gotogether one says replace mode and onesays trans mode and basically it justmeans whether you can see through thisor not on the trans mode which istransparent when you put this over yourscore you're going to still see yournotes but if I go to the replace modeand hit it kind of makes it a solidscreen which then makes it completelyvisible no matter where you put itcontinuing in this other palette here ifwe hit this one that says page text andthen again we draw something we click onit we get this page text layout and alot of options for changing the font andthat kind of thing basically this is forlike if you want to put a title on yourpage or a copyright notice the thingthat says Untitled here is what theactual text is so if I put in let's saysong title I can line it up whether Iwant it on the left or the center orwhatever let's put it in the center topand then I hit ok now I have a songtitle right here in the middle of thepageto use this you have to go up to yourscores and make sure that the page modeis selected leaving this area that saysother and go down to the one that sayswords you have the option to actuallycreate words that you're going to useover and over again if I click on one ofthese I can type in something I'm goingto type in begin here hit exit and thenanytime I hit this now I can just clickthat word or words will be inserted andthen I can take that and move it if Ineed to okay then comes to the subjectof the text attribute sets and the ideahere is that let's say you have a lyricor words or text anything like that I'mgoing to select these here and I'm goingto go up to scores come to my settingsI'm going to go to this project Tab andthen I'm going to take this first optionof the font settings in the fontsettings I can choose the font let's sayI'm going to take this drop down listand I'm going to go to Franklin Gothichere I'm going to apply it and now mytext has changed to this Franklin Gothictext maybe I want to change the size aswell let's go to 14 right 14 apply itmaybe I want to make them italics let'scheck that hit apply so all thosechanges that I've made to this text areconsidered the text attributes if I getsomething I like and I've made somemajor changes here I can go up in thisfont set area I can hit this little plussign which changes this font set name toUntitled I'll just call it new clicksomewhere outside of it and that has nowcreated this text attribute set before Igo further you can rename these if youwant there's a little e here and you canpick any of these you've created in thislist once you start creating them andthen you can rename them or create newones but now once I've created a setlike that I can go to any word and go toany lyrics that I've created or text oranything I can right click on it and inthe pop-up list there's an option thatsays the attribute set and any of thesethat I've created and I've got four ofthem that I've created I can quicklyjust now select those and that willchange my text to whatever it is youknow that I've created without having togo through all those steps all overagain so it's a real quick way to set upsome defaults on how you want your textlayouts and attributes to all be andthen you can just right click and makethose changes wherever you need themokay let me show you a few things aboutthe context menus and then I'm going toshow you another glitch that I'veuncovered and I know this is probablyspecific to my system for some reason mysystem gives me issues on certaingraphic things that I do in Cubase andit's pretty consistent so I pretty muchnarrowed it down that it's a graphicissue but maybe you can try it and seeif it happens for you but first of alllet's do this let's go to the block textoption I'm going to click here I'm goingto import some of my block text and if Iright click on this block text then Iget this context menu and these firstthree apply right to the block textmeaning they only work on block textfirst one being settings if I hitsettings I can change things that I didon the block text the font and the frameand all these things if I go back and Isay import text it basically just takesme back into the document again and thenyou have this one that says update thetext to show you this let me do thisinstead let me go over to my symbols hittext and and I'll say this is text I'mgoing to right click on this one I'mgoing to take the option that says textto clipboard because it's going to takethis little piece of text and put it onthe clipboard so now if I go over to myblock text and I right click here then Igo text from clipboard it pastes inwhatever I just copied from the othertext but if I right click on this againand I say update the text it then goesback to the little text that I havestored that I originally imported thisfrom and we'll update it again samething if I like maybe change the font onthis let's say I go to this and I changeit to I'll take it to one of these weirdtexts here say okayand you can see the text completelychanged the font same thing if I rightclick and I say update the text itreloads it right from my computer theoriginal text file all the other piecesof text the lyrics and the regular textyou can right click and there's anoption that says set font and it'll takeyou right to an option to change thefont if you want the block text won't dothat if you want to change the font onthat you want to go to the settingsagain and now here's the glitchpreviously we talked about this showhide option when we're dealing withlyrics and I was confused by this myselfa little bit because I'm like well ifyou get rid of it you can't really bringit back here's an example if I go tothis lyric and I hold shift and I doubleclick and then I right click on thislyric and I go down the option that sayshide show if I click on that it doesexactly that it hides it it removes itfrom view if you right click you thinkyou're going to get an option to showagain but you don't it's like forevergone what do you do well the way it'ssupposed to work and the way it doeswork on lyrics for me if I go up intothis What's called the filter bar uphere and hit the option that says hideit brings into view all the things thathave been hidden and one of the thingsthat brings back into view is the lyricand it's very hard to see unless youclick on it because then it changescolor but I'm going to hold shift doubleclick this first lyric and now it'sbrought it back in in a different colorand at this point I can right click onthis and go down to my hide show and itcomes back into view so that works outvery well and that's the way it'ssupposed to work on the other hand forme if I use any other element the textor the black text they disappear andthey never reappear or they becomeimmovable in my in my score I can't movethem anymore so it's definitely somekind of graphic issue so the bottom linethe way this is supposed to work whenyou take an element and you right clickon it and you say you want to hide showit then you should be able to go up tothis filter area hit this filter box forhide and your elements will kind ofreappear in a kind of grayed out or dimfashion which will then allows you toright click and show them again then youcan unfilter this so that's the way it'ssupposed to work so for me it's a 50 50thing some of my elements do that someof them don'tbefore we wrap it up let me show you oneother way to kind of customize some ofyour text let's go back to the otherhere and I'm going to hit the textoption click somewhere and I just typein this is some textand hit enterand it immediately kind of selects andgoes blue and if you have your propertyscreen open here on the side then youget a bunch of options that you canchange we kind of talked about these ifyou look at the font set there's alittle gear and if you hit the littlegear it opens up this settings optionwhich also can be found in the scoressettings option but if you go to thetext tab you can make a lot of changesright here and see them update in realtime and you can type something in thispreview screen to test it I put in hereas a little test but if I go for exampleover to the font I can either hit thedrop down arrow and pick any of my fontsor I can basically just hold my mousewheel over it and spin this and in thepreview area I will see what the appfont actually looks like so I have someidea what I'm dealing with same thingwith the size maybe I want to make thesize a little bit bigger let's go to 18here and you can see all these differentfonts as I move through them so if I getsomething I like and I go ahead applythen it changes this text that washighlighted down here if I close thisout and then you have it updated righthere so it's another good way to kind ofyou know make changes and see themupdate on your score all right it'sgoing to wrap it up for today as alwaysif you haven't grabbed your navigationguide be sure to grab that from the linkbelow gives you quick easy access to allthe content on this channel ever growingand free to use constantly being updatedin an effort to try to make your lifeand my life a whole lot easier you canfind your subjects in order categorizeddon't work so hard and take advantage ofit click it download it save it to yourfavorites as we continue moving alongwith text and lyrics in the score so westarted out looking at some of the extraRTF settings Rich text format the fontthe size learn how to draw frames in thewrap the replace and the transparencymode we started looking at page text welooked at the words option and then wegot into the text attribute set sothat's a great one there talked a littlebit about the specific context menus forblock text and lyrics and text ingeneral and then we just kind of endedup on some other font options you canget with the right navigation pane sojust a lot of great options when youhave to put words or text to your musicand you want to use the score to do itas we continue through this we just cuta little bit more to go as we becomehighly skilled now at working with thescore so much farther than where webegan all right as always it's great tohave you guys here and I'll see you onthe next video
