videoof this polyphonic voicing subject andthe previous videos and all videos onthis channel are in the navigation guidein the link below but before we go toofar I want to show you a glitch Iuncovered that may save you somefrustration as you can see in my exampleI have four little midi Parts here on myscore[Music]if I go to my bottom part here and Iplay thisand I look at the score it looks like Iexpect it to be but sometimes when Igrab everything togetherand then play itif I look down here in the low base partI can see I have a duplication of thenote which makes no sense I have twonotes down here but my midi part onlyhas one note and over here same thingit's showing a duplication of two noteseven though I'm playing only one noteand I try different experiments withchanging the length and couldn't figureout what was causing this well it turnsout if you're over dubbing your midiParts when you create them and you makeLanes if I go over to my Lane option Iturn it on I can see that I have theoriginal part that I'm playing plus Ihave a lane that's muted out heresometimes the score will actually showthese muted out lanes so if you'reseeing a bunch of duplicate notes thatyou don't know where they're coming fromyou're going to want to kick your laneoption on to see if you have someoverdubs in there if you do eithermanually click them and delete them ormost of these midi tracks have an optionto say remove the overlap so you can getrid of them but either way if there'ssomething behind these midi parts thatmight show up on your score as well onceI do that and then I open The Score backup now the notes are clean only singlenotes everything is the way it should beso here we have four different staffsall playing different midi Parts hereand now we have an option if we go toour scores and we come down to ourfunctions we now have an option thatsays merge all the staffs and if I clickon that and then close that staff downwe get a new midi part down here if Icontrol R and open it up as a staff ithas now taken all of our parts and putthem on to one split staff and it hasautomatically split the voices to oneand two and five and six automaticallyso just like we have the option toexplode these tracks into differentstaffs or different voices we have theexact opposite where we can take all thestaffs and mix them together and haveqbase put them all back into one stafffor us the only thing you have toconsider when you do something like thisis once it makes this new track with thecombined voices it'll have to mute outyour existing voices or that'll playthose in the background as well alrightso let's try to take a small piece of uhsomething by Bach and see what kind ofluck we have of now that we know aboutpolyphonic voicings some of our othertricks that we've learned we can seefrom our example it's just two bars solet's go ahead and create two bars takea piano VST and create two bars on ithit Ctrl R open it up in my scoreand first of all we see some of thebasic things that are different I'll goover to my symbol to come over where 4 4is and write that in and just like thatit changes it I can see on the keysignature it's got one sharp F sharp upthere so it's in the key of G let's goto my keys and put that inI got one that says G major I'll pickthat come up here and draw it in andjust like that it puts the one sharp inthat I needbut we can see that we have just onestaff here and the example shows thesplit staff you can see it shows somestems going up some stems going down andI can tell you that I went through thisalready trying to do it originallybefore I went to the Polyphonic voicingoption and the split staff and all thatand I can tell you it was next toImpossible or at least very difficult toeven get something close to this verysimple piece of music here the noteswere crisscrossing in many differentways and it was very cumbersome to tryto control it on the other hand theminute I went to the Polyphonic voicingoption and had the independence of thedifferent voices this became a much morestreamlined process so let me show yousome of the tricks of how to do thisfirst of all I'm going to go over to mystaff one I'm going to go ahead andswitch it right into the Polyphonicright away so now it looks just like myscore does and tip number two I'm goingto tell you is if you have things thatare like dotted notes or triplets oranything like that just basically ignorethem for right now and go for thesimplest entering of the know what youcan it's very easy after that to go backand make you know more detailed changesso here's the way I would approach thisat this point looking at this Top Lineyou can see I have four quarter noteshere I'm going to go up and enact mycomputer input and my step input I'mgoing to hit my ALT key which allows meto see where my notes areI can use my arrow to move them aroundas I need to because they are quarternotes I'm going to go right into thistoolbar here and switch everything to aquarter noteand I'm going to put these four quarternotes in I'm also going to make surethat I'm on Voice number one because I'mdealing with pilot finding voices I canpick my voices ahead of time so I'mgoing to take Voice number one so now Ihit alt I can see my note there and I'mnot going to worry about the pitches yetI'm just going to kind of put it upthere somewhere where I can see it andI'm going to hit four different quarternotes by hitting enter one two threefourthe next note in the bunch is a halfnote so I'm going to switch this to ahalf note back and hit my ALT key hitenternow I have a half note and the next noteis a half note so I hit my ALT key againhit the enter keyand now I have another half note now asI go to the next line below that I cansee I have a quarter note a quarter notea couple of eighth notes and anotherquarter noteso I'm going to switch to quarter notesagain hit my ALT key now I'm going toswitch to voice too because I want tomake these notes controlled by the voice2 option if I hit the ALT key againI use my arrows to get my notes back atthe beginning of the thing now I'm goingto move the pitches down a little bit soI can see them somewhere else again I'mnot really worried about the pitches yetand I'll show you why because it's soeasy to change the pitches so startingfrom the beginning I hit enterI hit enter againnow I have a couple of eighth notes soI'm going to switch to an eighth noteherehold my ALT key hit a couple of eighthnotesstems are already put into placeperfectly the way I need them I haveanother quarter note so I'm going to goback to a quarter notehit my ALT key hit enterand then the last bar here I have twoquarter notes and a half note so I'mgoing to hit the quarter note get two ofthose enter enter and then a half noteswitch up my toolbar to a half noteand to hold alt and hit enter and I'mdone with the top staff now I'm going togo to my bottom staff make that theactive staff I'm going to make sure Ihave voice 5 up here which I do takethat oneswitch to a quarter notehold my ALT keynow my notes are way over here on theright so I'm going to move these overwith my arrow key to the beginning ofthe song againmove them down a little bit so they'remore manageableI hit enterenter again I have an eighth note soI'll switch it to an eighth notehit enter twiceI have a quarter note so I go back to aquarter note I hit enterI have another quarter note hit entertwo eighth notes so I'm going to go backhit the eighth note buttonhit two eighth notesand then I have a half note so I'm goingto go up and hit the half noteand hit enterand then before I go to the final lineI'm going to switch this voice to voicesixI have quarter notes so I'm going toswitch my toolbar up to quarter noteshold the ALT keyuse my arrows and go back to thebeginning again I'm going to move thesepitches down someplace else where I cansee them easily and I have two quarternotes so I'm going to enter enter nowhere's the one thing I'm telling youthis next note is a dotted quarter noteforget the dot for a minute just goahead and enter the quarter note againand then we have an eighth note so we'regoing to switch it to an eighth note andhold my ALT key but the eighth note ison the last end there so I'm gonna hitmy arrow key to move it over hit enternow I have two quarter notes and a halfnote so I go back up to the top I hitthe quarter notehit enter enterand then a half note so I hold alt hitenterand there it is just like that now whathave we accomplished here first of allthis is definitely not the right pitchesso this is going to be sounding prettyfunny if we played this these are justrandom pitches but all the rhythms arein place perfectly except for the onethat needs to be changed to the dottedquarter note Now watch how easy it is tochange the length on that so I click onit I go up to my length I start spinninga little bit and just like that Iswitched it to a dotted quarter notenothing to it so after the fact makingyour edits or adjustments on the randomnotes is super simple all right so nowlet's bring these into placeI'm going to turn off all this computerkeyboard and step entry and stuffand now I can click on the Node I wantto work on The Voice will changeautomatically this one is Voice numberone this one's Voice number two downhere is Voice number five down here isVoice number sixso I go back to Voice number oneand without changing anything I can stayon that note I can use my mouse wheel tospin it up and downI can use the arrows to step througheach one of the notes on that line nowit becomes a super simple process tofill in the details so I start spinningthese down to where they belonggo to the next note same thinggo to the next note same thinglast notenext noteI'm just keeping my initial cursor onthe first note but I can use my arrowsto switch the other notes and justchange the pitch as quickly as can belast notenow I go to my next voice the bottomnoteI'm going to change those where theybelongnext noteit's already there that's good next noteX noteand it goes to the sharp super easy nextnoteswitch to the next I'm just using myarrow to move along here next notenext notepush the sharp in no problem next noteand I don't have to worry about if I'mon the right voice because itautomatically knows what voice I've usedbecause I've already set that up andjust like that I've got it go to my nextline and the bottom of the bass clefherespin it to where it belongsjust keep my mouse right where it's at Idon't have to change my mouse at allnext notenext notenext note[Music]next notenext noteit's all good next one next one it's sosimple to make these changes once youhave the basic thing in placeand now let's fix our last line start atthe beginning click on the first notedial it in[Music]my arrow to the next note[Music]next one[Music]next onenext one already therenext oneand the last one[Music]and Now ladies and Gentlemen let's seewhat we have hereisn't that somethingall right so we're not done let's takethis now now that we have everything seton its own voice exactly the way we wantit we go up to our scores option comedown to our functions tell it to extractthe voicesclose the staff down for a minuteso now we have all of our differentparts on different midi tracksand if you have any kind of orchestralvsts here's where you really can putthose to use I've opened up some basicorchestral instruments here copied mymidi Parts onto these orchestralinstruments[Music]I'm going to open all these back up inthe score againand from the top here's what we have[Music]isn't that somethingall right that's gonna wrap it up fortoday as usual if you haven't grabbedyour navigation guy be sure to grab thatbefore you go has links to all thecontent on this channel ever growing andfree to use it's there for your benefitthey're for my benefit and hopefullywhen you need an answer you can find itthere quick rather than strugglingtrying to read through the
