hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our second video as we continue todiscuss the score entering and editingof notes in Cubase but before we start Iwant to remind you that there's a linkbelow to the free content navigationguide which is an easy to navigatewebpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there you knowthings like simple steps that will getyou started and up and running quickthings that are in the videos but arewritten down in simple steps that serveas quick reminders when you needinformation down the road if you'reworking with programs like wavelab orCubase plugins or the cable guys shaperbox and many many other projects thatare in the works then I know you'regoing to find just like I have that thisis an invaluable study Aid and the otherthing I want to make sure you understandis that this is not a simple PDF this isa constantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so we're on the second video ofentering and editing notes of coursewe're exploring the score through manysections so far with many other videosinvolved with the score and as usual allthe previous videos are in thenavigation guide in the link below butlet's start having some real fun byentering some notes with the keyboardpreviously we looked at how to entersome notes with the mouse now let's lookat some options for entering with yourcomputer keyboard let's actually draw asmall part I'm going to get that drawtool here draw maybe four bars hitcontrol R now there's some buttons uphere on the toolbar one of them overhere stands for the step input if Iclick that on and then next to itthere's an option that actuallyactivates your computer keyboard so Ikick that one onnext to it there's a little drop downthat gives you some options and the oneI have here it says require the ALT keyso what that means is when I hit the ALTkey on my keyboard it's going to put anote in play hereand in this case there's a little gridabove it to kind of show me what's goingon if I hit that note with the ALT keyand then I use my arrow keys I can justquickly move through that grid anddecide where I want to go and I can goup with the notes and I can go down withthe notes so I can go left right and upand downthis grid is drawn in by going to youredit down to your preferences and downinto your score area in the editingoption if we go over here on the rightin the note tool it says show the barsand beats position when inserting notesand that's got to be checked if it's notchecked you want to check it hit applyso then every time I hold down my ALTkey I get this little grid with thepicture it's also determined by whatnote I put up here so if I put a quarternote up here on this toolbar and now Ihold my ALT keynow it's going to move through quarternotes it could go as far as I want if Iwant to put these crazy 64th notes inthere I can do that as well let's staysimple I'm just going to go with eighthnotesso if I hold my eighth note and I startplaying them if I want to make it stay Ihit the enter keyand if I hit the enter key again it'lljust keep drawing it as long as I holddown the ALT key while I'm doing itif I grab my mouse and make sure it'sback on the select tool if I clickanywhere in the bars it shows thislittle step input cursor I don't know ifyou can see it it's a little blue linethat shows up and once I have that inview I can also use my left and rightarrows to kind of move it around and ifI hold shift and go backwards that willerase these notes so exercise one ishold your ALT key move your notes aroundthe bar hit enter and draw your notes intake your mouse and hit the littlecursor move that left to right with yourarrow keys then hold shift and gobackwards and erase your notesso I'm definitely finding discrepancy interms of what the manual is saying howthings work and what really works andI'm not sure if that's due to theversions and the manual not beingupdated or just my system whatever sowhat I'm going to do is show you thingsI know work guaranteed and we'll justleave it at that so I want to give you afew moves as far as getting your notesaround if you've edited a few notesselect a note if you hold shift and hityour arrow up or down it will move it bya whole octave if you hold control anduse your left or right arrows you canmove the note along in the staff andthis is great because you can changethese note values and move it by thatparticular amount for example right nowit's on an eighth note if I go to aquarter note and now I hold my controland use my arrow I'm going to move by aquarter note every hitif I want to go all the way down to the64th note same thing hold Ctrl use myarrow and I can move by these very tinyincrements let me go back to an eighthnote this also applies to the tripletand the dotted option down here forexample if you hit this T you'rechanging it to a triplet enough I holdCtrl and hit my right arrow I can moveby triplets which is very useful then asI've showed you before if you want tochange the length of a note once youhave it selected go up on your info bargo to that third decimal point you cango to any of them but this is the one Itypically use and you can just startspinning that to different lengths ofwhatever works for youanother option you have if you're havingdifficulty finding the right combinationof notes Let Me erase these for a minutelet's put a bunch of eighth notes inhere againyou can actually go to the glue tool andyou can experiment with hitting a noteand gluing it to the note after thatyou can try various combinations of justgluing things together and changing thelength so experiment with that as wellso there's lots of ways to move yournotes around I'm going to pick a certainway that I use most of the time and I'mgoing to stick to that as we go throughthese so if I want to move a note up anddown I basically would just select itand then spin with my mouse wheel up ordown I could also drag it if I wanted upor down when it comes to moving a noteleft or right same thing I can justclick on it and drag it if I want or ifI hold the control key and use my leftor right arrows then I can move it leftto right and all of these are governedby what note value you pick up here onthe toolbar right now I have eighthnotes selected so everything moves by aneighth note but if I change it to a 16thnote hold my control key and startmoving it it's going to move by 16thnotes so then you have this option ifyou put a note onand then grab it and move ityou can move it to any single note youknow that there isbut if you go up onto the toolbar youhave an option that says event movementrestrictions it has a little kind ofhashtag symbol on it and if you hit thedown arrow next to that you have someoptions but one says keep notes withinthe keyif I go back and I look at my part downhere that's highlighted up on the infobar it says the root Key C so when I'min the score if I have this eventmovement restriction set up now when Idrag my noteit only moves to notes within the key ofC it won't let me hit the sharps orflatslet's go back and turn our computerkeyboard on for a minuteenter a bunch of eighth notesthen you have the option if you go uphere on the toolbar turn off thecomputer keyboard and turn off the stepturn on the button that says midi inputand if I highlight a note let's say thisfirst note and you have some kind ofkeyboard hooked up like I do if I justplay the notes[Music]it will actually change all the notescompared to what I play I use my leftarrow and go backwardssay I want to change some of these I goto this note hit a different noteI can move my arrow wherever I want andI can play whatever I wantmake a little selectionhit alt pso besides all the ways we've talkedabout moving and dragging your notes andusing the mouse wheel and other thingslike that you also up on your toolbar ifyou right click and make sure that theoption for the for the transpose paletteis selected then you get this thing withthese little arrows on it and the firsttwo arrows move the notes up and down bysemitones so if I just click it likethat I can go you know right up and downand then you have your full octaves withthese bigger arrowsso you can move your notes from onestaff to another I have a pad on thisstep and I have a piano on thisand if I select all these notes with myselect tool and drag them down to theother instrumentnow they play on the pianowhich opens up quite a few possiblecreative options if you really startthinking about this if I close the stafffor a minute and I add some other synthsdown here with some interesting soundsand then create some some events on bothof those synths now if I select them alland hit Ctrl R to reopen up the scorenow I can move these notes between anyof these synths foreign[Music]T while I have all these notes selectedand move it up I can copy these up toanother stepand now I have a layered soundlet's say I do that one more time I grabthis and hold alt and move this up butmaybe I want the piano to play an octavelower if I hold shift and hit my downarrow I move my piano down an octave andthen I have thisbut hey let's not stop there what if wego to one of these and we select everyother note and I hold Ctrl when I selectallows me to select every other noteand now I take just those notes and movethem up to the next staffand now I have my synth playing everyother note on a different synth[Music]pretty amazingall right it's going to wrap it up fortoday as usual if you haven't grabbedyour navigation guide be sure to grabthat before you go there's links to allthe content on this channel ever growingfree to use all the videos are in ordereasy to get to and helps make thelearning hopefully a whole lot easierthan scrolling through endless playlistsof everything in any kind of orderso the score is definitely shaping up tobe a fascinating tool in Cubase withpotential that maybe if you think alittle bit outside the box can do somethings you never even really thoughtaboutI know for myselfthe option to be able to enter intypical pieces of music classical or anykind of written down score and then beable to use cubase's ability to analyzetracks be able to see what kind of chordprogressions are being used it's justthe possibilities are truly endlessas we continue to discover these newLittle Gems as we goall right as always it's great to haveyou guys here I'll see you in the nextvideo
