Sample Editor V2 in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today let's moveon to our second video as we continuediscussing the sample editor in Cubasebut before we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we started our discussionof the sample editor in the last videoas always previous videos are in thenavigation guide in the link below butlet's start off today looking at some ofthe tools if we're up on the toolbarhere and then move over I can see I havea scrub tool I'm going to click on thatand that allows me to find Sounds byscrubbing over the samples[Music]forwards or backwards if you have littleclick sounds in your audioif you zoom in all the way you can seethis starts to become visible but I'mgoing to zoom in furtherthis part I can switch to the draws tooland I can actually draw that click rightout of thereif I zoom back outand then I play itforeignI can remove those kind of clicks whenyou're in the sample editor you have theinfo line it gives you various bits ofinformation on the sample rate and thebit depth you have an option over herethat actually shows the selection lengthso whatever you make a selection you cansee that as you come down to theoverview it is so easy to overlook theoverview and not use it when it isreally such a powerful tool you havethree kind of areas when you'renavigating the overview you have apencil when you're at the top which youcan draw in just about any place youwant you just make little selections anddraw it and you'll Zoom right to that asyou move to the bottom it turns into ahand and you can move your selectionaround if you move to either side ofyour selection it kind of expands itthis kind of Double Arrow between usingthe overview to kind of zoom in comingdown to the ruler which allows you tozoom in and out if you incorporate acouple of shortcuts that I use all thetime let me go back to my key commandsfor a minute if you look down your keycommands to zoom you have one in hereand it called Zoom to event which youcan assign a shortcut to if I use myshortcut on that I can immediately zoomout to my event so between those variousoptions of the overview using the zoomto event I can move around the sampleeditor very quickly another good optionto have when you make a selection likethis go back to your key commands andlook under transport there's an optionthat says play The Selection range youcan assign a key command to that thatway when I'm in these selections I canimmediately make a selection get myshortcut for play the rangeand I can quickly move around and hearthe different selectionswhen you're in the sample editor if youwant to see the inspector or not see itover here on the left Zone you can clickthis button up here if you haven'tchanged shortcuts you can hit alt and Iso what are some of the creative funthings we can do in the sample editorone of the first thing that comes to mymind if I go back to the lower Zoneeditor let's say I take a drum Loop likethis you could actually just make littleselections right out of your editoritself and drag those right up into yourprojectyou can make other selectionsso if you have fills you want to bringin or maybe just a particular drum partall these can be selected quickly andthen just brought into the projectanother fun thing to do in the samplereditor is create things for sampletracks there's a whole video on Rangeediting in case you're interested inthat but if we look at this range tabover here and there's all kinds ofthings in these drop down menus toexplore if I make any particularselection maybe from this drum Loop thatI have and I hit create sampler trackand very easily I have that selectionput into a sampler trackanother great one is the option ofregions if I move my editor down intothe lower Zone again and I make variousselections you can come over to thebuttons on the right and create a regionyou can then play that regionI can make a selection for a differentone and make another region or selectanother one again I can addition any oneof theseregions can then be recalled and playedand they can actually be brought rightinto your projectyou're definitely going to want to takea minute look at the ruler up on thesample editor right click on it see theoptions for bars and Beads seconds timecodes all these different things you'realso going to see all kinds of optionsin terms of how to locate things wherethe left locator or the right locatoroptions for setting the left locator inthe right locator or selecting the rangedeactivating the cycle a different zoomin and out options and then Zoom thelocators and again if any of these haveshortcuts they're going to show theshortcuts here I've assigned a lot ofthese myself and if you want to use anyof these you can create your ownshortcuts just look these up in the keycommands but for example the zoom thelocators I have alt and L so if I make asmall selection I hit my alt and my LkeyI'm zoomed right in I have the option ofalt and Z to undo the zoom level so byusing these I can quickly makeselections zoom into that I'll Z backout of it make another selection alt andL into that these things are veryhelpful when you're dealing with asample editor besides the ruler anytimeyou go to this definition tab you get asecond ruler that applies to thespecific sample that you're working onover on the far left you have the optionto set the reading at either DB orpercentage and to check this option toshow the half level axis just gives yousome more detail of where things arewhen you're dealing with a sample editoryou can show more than one event at atime if I click this hold Ctrl and clickthis then double click on them both hereand I can edit them both I can go overto the edit display and then pick whichevent I want to make active let's talkabout the options in the zoom menu if wego to edit we come down to zoom we cansee that we have a whole list of variousoptions in terms of zooming many ofthese I've assigned my own shortcuts toand to assigned shortcuts you just go toyour key commands look for thisparticular command and then assign ashortcut to it but if I take these firstthree zoom in zoom out Zoom full if Iuse my key commands I can zoom in I canzoom outand I can zoom fullwhen we use our Zoom full we want toreturn and look at the zoom mode for asecond on the zoom mode drop down if weuse the clip base Zoom when we use zoomfull we can only see what we've selectedas our Clips meaning if we come back outinto the project you can see I havethese four clips and I've selected themso if I zoom full that's all I can seein the sample editor and it's convenientmost time on the other hand if you goback and go to the global zoom and I goZoom full what I'm seeing is the fullproject go back to the zoom mode I saymake it clip based againthen that clip fills the whole screengoing back down to our Zoom options wehave zoom to selection and zoom to eventI've assigned shortcuts to all these ifI make a selection I can zoom right toit my shortcut to event I can zoom rightto it we have zoom in vertically andzoom out vertically again if you haveyour shortcuts assigned you can changethe vertical sizeand then the last thing to really talkabout is all the different tabs we havehere each one of these tabs kind ofbrings together all the shortcutsrelated to these various things forexample if we go to the range tab allthe things we've ever talked about inthe range section are kind of puttogether right here so you can get tothem quick and every one of these tabswe've gone through a series of videos oneach specific one for example there's awhole section in the navigation guide onthe audio warp there's a whole sectionon very audio a whole section on hitpoints there's a whole section on rangeand process refers back to the directoffline processing all those variouscommands are right here so any of thesethat you want more details on go backand watch those particular sections theonly thing we haven't really elaboratedon in other videos is the definition tabto really analyze this we'll save thatfor another time but if you haveeverything we've talked about today andin the previous video you're ready totake on the sample editor and that'sgoing to wrap it up for today as alwaysif you haven't grabbed your navigationguide be sure to grab that from the linkbelow this video it gives you quick easyaccess to all the content on thisChannel ever growing free to use contentis in order being continually updated doyourself a favor pick it up add it toyour favorites use it today tomorrow orwhenever you have a question stopworking
