hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today let's talkabout rhythmic notation in Cubase butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we've been going throughall the different topics in the scorefor many videos now and of course allthose previous videos are always in thenavigation guide in the link below buttoday let's talk about rhythmic notationand what is rhythmic notation if youlook at the score we have in front of usthis is an example of rhythmic notationWhat's Happening Here is we have a fullscore in terms of lots of notes going onlet me play thisbut the only thing it's showing is therhythm of each one of the notes or therhythm of each one of the chords or therhythm of each one of the drum beats theactual notes are being kind of disguisedbehind this rhythmic notation one waythis is used is if you have a conductorand then he can just basically followalong really quickly and see where weare at in the score but it doesn'tnecessarily have to see all thedifferent intricacies of what the scoreis doing or anytime somebody just needssome kind of rough outline of the scorethis rhythmic notation does a great jobof that now let's talk about how we getto this point so here we are back to theregular scoreand it's a fairly simple process tochange any of this stuff to where yousee just The rhythms let's go to thechords for example first I want to makeit an active step by clicking in frontof it make sure my little blue bar showsup here then if I go up to my scores andcome down the menu there's actually anoption that says rhythmic notation andif I go to the very first option thatsays show rhythmic notation and click itimmediately those chords are hidden andthe only thing left is the Rhythm andthe other thing about it is you canpretty much mix and match it however youwant for example right now I still haveregular notes up here on the top but Ihave rhythmic notation in the middle butif I want to change that and make aselection here go back up to scores comedown to rhythmic notation and say showthe rhythmic notation then immediatelythose notes are changed into therhythmic notation now this doesn'taffect the playback in any way it's onlya display optionforeign then the reverse is true if Iwant to change this back to this regularnotation and make sure that bar isselected whatever I want to change goback up to my scores come down to therhythmic notation option but this time Igo to the one that says show the regularnotation and immediately EverythingChanges right back to its original notesand then if you need some kind of extravisual on where these rhythmic notationsare if you go up into this quick ViewBar you have an option that says cutRhythm about three options over if Iturn this on or check it then anythingthat has the rhythmic notation also getsthis wording that says rhythmic bar andthen of course if you want to turn itoff uncheck it even if this is checkedand you print this this thing that saysrhythmic buyer won't print you have somereally good ways in terms of hidingthese rhythmic notations where you don'thave to delete them but you can get themout of view by select all these notes inthis bar and then I go back up to scoresrhythmic notation there's an option thatsays clear the bar if I hit that thenall those notes go out of view now thosenotes are still here in terms of playingthem if you want to bring them back intoview once again go back up to thisoption in the toolbar that says cutRhythm and the rhythmic bar option willshow up even though there's no noteshere then you can right click on thisrhythmic bar option and pick the optionthat says show the rhythmic notation andthen everything comes right back intoview so then sometimes you have a chordprogression or a riff or something thatjust keeps repeating over and over againin this example I just have this B minorchordforeignover and over again because I know it'sjust the same pattern repeated so I'mgoing to make some changes first of alllet's put it into the rhythmic notationgo up to scores rhythmic notation andthen show rhythmic notationand then I can select every note byhitting the first one holding shift anddouble clicking it selects every nodehere and then I'm going to unselectthese first threeI'm going to hold Ctrl and click on thembut what I want is I want the rest ofthese to just be basically repeat signsbut once again if I go up to the scoresdown to my rhythmic notation then I havean option that says show the bar repeatsign if I click on that that just cleansit right up and then I have a simplepattern one time and all the rest areshown as just repeat signs letting meknow that I just have to make the sameRhythm over and over again all thesedifferent times anytime I want to revealwhat I've already had and bring thehidden stuff out go back up to my cutRhythm option and select it which thenshows these rhythmic barred words I justright click on any one of them go backto show the rhythmic notationor I can control click all of them andthen say show rhythmic notation and justlike that I get them all back into viewand then I can uncheck this cut Rhythmoption so the rhythmic notation is agreat option when you want to just showsome basic stuff keep it simple for youor anybody else that needs to justfollow the basic elements of the scoreall right it's going to wrap it up fortoday as always be sure to grab yournavigation guide from the link belowthis video gives you quick easy accessto all the content on the channel evergrowing and free to use content is inorder updated continually it's there tomake your life easier make my lifeeasier and as you're gonna see it'sgoing to have news and links to anythingthat's happening and that's all there isto the rhythmic notation prettystraightforward on that bit ofinformation we saw how to change thenotes to rhythmic notation or therhythmic back to the notes we saw how tohide and show them or repeat the barsigns that's a great option just initself the next topic we're going tocover is a bit about how Cubasetranslates to the score should be aninteresting bit of information and I'mlooking forward to Breaking that down asalways it's great to have
