will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything thing updatedand once you have it you will alwayshave the latest information constantlyupdated so if you haven't gotten italready go to the link below click on itand save it to your favorites it's mygift to you and it's absolutely freeOkay so let's get started so if you'vebeen using Cubase for a while rangeediting is not necessarily a new topicto you but there are some things that gobelow the surface in terms of typicaloperation so let's talk about thissubject if I'm in Cubase typically Ihave my object selection tool which isthis Arrow which allows me to grab anykind of object and move it around but ifI right click there's also a tool calledthe range selection which is also up onyour toolbar if you see it up here ontop it's usually just a straight up anddown kind of line and with the rangeselection not only can you grab objectsbut you can make a selection and thenCubase allows you to do various thingswith that range for example I could grabthat range and move it right out of thatparticular event and then I have aseparate event and there's all kinds ofthings that happen in these ranges thatwe can do as well one thing you want tospend some time with at some point is togo up to edit and come down to theselect option and investigate theseoptions in this Sub menu First Optionbeing all if you select that selectseverything in your project then you haveanother object that says None and thatmakes sure nothing is selected in yourproject your shortcut keys if youhaven't changed them are Ctrl a and thenCtrl shift a to select none these kindof things will really speed up yourworkflow if you know them another optionon your range tool is to make aselection go up to your edit select andyou have an option that says in the loopand that'll select everything verticallyup and down now I have a split screen soI can go up to the top screen and I cando the same thing go edit select in Loopand I'll select everything in the toplayer as well shortcut for these isAlton the little slash but if I make aselection if I hit the alt in thebackslash I can immediately selecteverything in the loop another option inthe edit select is from the start to thecursor if you have nothing selected itdoes that to everything if I select acertain track then it does that on thattrack and another option after that saysfrom cursor to end does the same thingif you go to a midi part and open it upand you select just one note here wehave some options that say equal pitchfrom all octaves so anything that's onthat pitch no matter what octave it'sgoing to select it or equal pitch forthe same octave then it will stay righton that one spot all the way across asyou continue to explore all thedifferent options here in the selectarea one thing you might want to beaware of if you go to edit down to keycommands and then look down the categorythat says edit hit the little plus signand move down this area until you seethe word select you will find a lot ofthese commands are available right hereselect from the cursor to the end selectthe events under the cursor many of theoptions that are in that select optionand then you can assign key commands tothose if you have ones that you like forexample this next option says all on theselected tracks and I assigned ashortcut key of alt T to that so thatmeans anytime I hit a track in this casethere's four different events on thistrack there's always a menu option thatallows you to select everything on thetracks but it takes a while to gothrough all that but in this casebecause I've set up this shortcut key Ican hit a track I can hit alt and T onmy keyboard and I immediately haveeverything selected on that track nowthis is a little bit off the topic but Iwant to show you this as well in caseyou're not aware of it and again thismay operate different on a laptop thanit does on my computer because I have akeyboard computer but you can do so manythings with the arrows on your computerkeyboard for example if I have a tracklike I select here and then I use mydown arrow I can quickly move downthrough all my tracks if I hold shiftand hit that same Arrow I can selectmultiple tracks if I hit the up Arrow Iwill immediately just unselect those andcontinue moving on and I can use shiftand hit the up Arrow to select othertracks that way by doing that if I goback to this track that has thesemultiple events I can use my shortcutkey but I can also use the side rightarrow and when I do thatI immediately select the next event andif I hit my right arrow again I selectthe next event and the next event in thenext event and I can go through all myevents on a track just like that and ifI hold shift and do that I can selectthose multiple events or I can hit theother side arrow and unselect themcontinue up and down the track towhatever I want hit the right arrowagain to select all the events or if Ihold shift and go down now I'm going toselect every event going down knowingthese kind of shortcuts and really helpyou get through a lot of things insteadof continually trying to find menus anddifferent ways of you know grabbingthings so I just offer those as extratips let me show you these last fewoptions in case you ever want to usethem right the next one down the listsays the events under the cursor if thisonly applies to selected tracks so againif I select all these tracks and I movedown the listand now I have my cursor and I bring itto say this point you can see that thecursor is only touching this event andthis event below it it's not touchingany of these other events so if I goback to that option then only those twoevents get selected these other eventsdo not this next option says select theevent and this applies when you're inthe sample editor so if I take thesefour events here and I open the sampleeditor up up on the toolbar you can pickthe different events of the four that Ihave whenever I pick one of these eventsand then I go to that option that saysselect the event then that event getshighlighted if I go to a different oneof these and go back to that option thenthat event gets highlighted these nextfew options apply to taking your rangetool and making a selection and thenhaving your cursor someplace if I go tothe one that says left selection side tocursor and I hit thatthen that selection extends all the wayto the cursor if I move my cursor overon the right someplace come down and Isay right selection side to cursor thenit extends it over to the cursor thatway if I make a selection in this eventcome down the option it says range tothe next event everything moves and youcan't see it but up here on the top youcan see that the left and right locatorshave been put to the same position andmoved over to the beginning of the nextevent if I do the same thing I make arange and I come down to the option thatsays range to the previous event selectthat same thing everything kind ofdisappears left and right locators go tothe same exact spot but they go to thebeginning of the next event and then onemore if I make a range come down to theoption says enlarge the range to theprevious event range extends itself tothe next eventso it's pretty obvious that if you makea selection with the object selectiontool that you can hold Ctrl to unselectvarious parts what's not so obvious isthat also applies to the range tool ifyou make a selection with the range toolyou can also hold Ctrl and unselectvarious parts of your range anytime youmake a rangethe minute you release your mouse youcan also increase the rangeeither to the left or to the right orfrom the top or the bottomor decrease it you have to experimentwith this option but anytime you makethe range you can hold shift and clickto extend your range and depending onwhere you move it you can hold shift andclick and it will extend the range overseveral areas the minute you make arange you can also go up on the infoline you have options for the startwhich you can change options for the endthat you can changeoptions for the length of the rangewhich tracks you extend it to whetherit's the top track or the bottom trackyour arrows will allow you to move therange around if I hit my left Arrow Ican move the range of my right arrowI can move the range down with my arrowsor up you can nudge your range byholding the ALT key in your left Arrowor your ALT key in the right arrowor the alt and the shift and the leftArrowand the alt shift in the right arrowyou can hold your alt and your up Arrowto extend the range upward or hold altand shift to extend the range downwardand just like most of the operations inCubase anytime you make some kind ofselection and this includes ranges ifyou hold the ALT key and drag it'lltypically create some kind of new eventwhen it comes to ranges you can do mostof the cut copy and paste types ofthings if I make a selection and I go toedit and I go to cut it removes thatpiece and leaves everything else like itwas if I make a selection like that andI go to copy it leaves everything inplace I can then put the cursorsomeplace else I can edit and paste andmove that range all of these functionscan be assigned shortcuts if I take apiece like this and I move it out wehave a couple of options saying addorigin first one on the function sayspaste it origin that will take thatsection and move it back to where itoriginally came from and it won't moveanything around it we have another onedown in the range area and it says pastetime at origin that one will put thepiece back but it will also moveeverything to the right if I want totake this piece out of here and haveeverything moved to the left if I go upto my edit and range and go to cut timethat's what that does and then one moreto look at if I go up and draw my leftand right locators over something and Igo up to edit down to range and I sayGlobal copy this makes a copy ofeverything that's under this left andright locator on every track let's say Imove over here to the end of the projectif I now go edit paste it will takeevery one of those parts that itglobally copied and paste them in let'sdo some last minute editing here if Itake a range and make a selection hit mybackspace and remove that piece of rangebut if I do that same thing and go downto edit range and then delete time youhave an option up on your Toolbar tocombine the object selection and therange if you hit this little button thenwe come down and use the range of thetop part of the event and the objectselection lower down if I want to splitsomething I can select at the top go toedit range and splitthen I can use my average collection andtake that piece out and then we havethis useful option if I make a range andI want to move everything over and putsome silence in there I can go edit downto range and insert silence andeverything moves over by that rangeamount and that's going to wrap it upfor today as always if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that from the link below this videogives you quick easy access to all thecontent on this channel ever growingfree to use content is in ordercontinually being updated there to helpyou there to help me do yourself a favorclick on it download it save it and useit when you need it so we begin thediscussion of range editing we talkedabout creating a selection range westarted looking at the menu for theselection ranges we looked at ranges ondifferent tracks and several tracks wetalked about editing some of theselection ranges then we wrapped it upwith a cut copy paste options let mepoint you to the option that says Globalcopy if you haven't used that option youmight be surprised how useful that willbe to know as we continue through allthese different points in Cubase then wewill pick it up next time as as alwaysit's great to have you guys here andI'll see you on the next video
