to the free content navigationguide which is an easy to navigatewebpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there you knowthings like simple steps that will getyou started and up and running quickthings that are in the videos but arewritten down in simple steps that serveas quick reminders when you needinformation down the road if you'reworking with programs like wavelab orCubase plugins or the cable guys shaperbox and many many other projects thatare in the works then I know you'regoing to find just like I have that thisis an invaluable study Aid and the otherthing I want to make sure you understandis that this is not a simple PDF this isa constantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos or 10 change really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so we move on to our sixth videoof this discussion of parts and eventsas always previous videos are in thenavigation guide in the link below butlet's start off talking about fill Loopand by that I mean taking an event andthen filling the loop area for exampleI'm going to select this event here I'mgoing to go up onto my ruler and make aloop selection of some kind now if I goup to edit down to functions I have anoption that says fill the loop and if Ihit that that event is going to fill outthat full loop and if it comes to apoint where it can't quite fill it thenit will cut off the end as necessary andthis applies to multiple Parts events orwhatever you select if I select both ofthese events leave my Loop selection uphere and then go down to edit andfunctions and tell it to fill the loopit will take all of those events andfill out the Loop so then you have thisinteresting option if you want to movethe inside of the event around if I takethis drum Loopand I say I pull it down to one bar andthen I play itif I hold my control and my ALT key atthe same time my cursor turns into likea double arrow at that point I canactually take the inside part of thisevent and I can drag it around left torightwhich gives you options to start yourloop at a whole different pointI'm going to move it around a little bitso it gives you an option for some realinteresting variations on your audioyou have an option to group events ifyou think you're going to be doing a lotof the same moves on a bunch of selectedevents and this can be different eventsover all different kinds of tracks I'mjust going to do it on one track herebut if I take these three events downhere go up to my edit come down to anoption that says group now puts a littleicon up in the upper right kind of likethree little dots and what happens nowis anytime I grab any one of theseevents as I grab one event and move itthey'll all move if I grab one andselect it they all select which thenallows me to add Fades if I want orchange the volume on all the differentselected events so if you find yourselfconstantly grabbing a certain event andthen holding control and clicking otherevents grouping them it's probably abetter way to go if you need to ungroupthem you do the same thing you selectthem you go up to your edit and there'san option right there it says ungroupwhen you get that they're back to justbeing by themselvesif you put your events into a folderyour folder actually has a group editingoption it's two straight lines if I hitthat and turn it on now anything I do toone event it's going to look for anyother events that are similar in thefolder and do the same thing in terms ofwhere I start them or end them oranything one option that's veryinteresting in this group editing modemany times if you have overdubs on anevent in other words you've recordedover it many times there's a littlearrow on the middle if you hit that itshows all the different takes one thisgroup editing is turned on if you changethe takes of one event let's say I go totake number one here it changes thetakes on all the different events so ifyou have actual takes that you need tocompare or you want to change them thisactually moves us on all the events atthe same time and all the other typicalprocesses work like if I put on myscissors and I want to cut something ifI'm in the group edit mode all the partsare going to get cutso as you're working with events youknow you have freedom to do whatever youwant move them around fade them chopthem whatever of course the midi eventshave different options than the audioevents but for example if I take thismidi event and I move it I can take itwherever I want to move it back if Iwant but if you ever have events thatyou need to like set so they can't bealtered while you're doing other thingsif you go up to this edit option comedown to we have an option that says lockand you hit that and it puts a littlepadlock on this event and now if I moveit I can move it but guess what it justsnaps right back in other words I can'tdo anything to it if I want to changethat I just go back to edit and I comedown and say unlock padlock goes awayand then I can do whatever I want to itif I have something locked and I go tothe edit and I come down to lock there'sstill the option to lock why is thatwell if I hit it again this opens up theattribute which allows you to decidewhat kind of things you want locked youwant the position or the size or otherswhich is just about everything else youcan check those and decide if you wantin various places in Cubase you have theoption to invert the phase but you canalso do it right on the events if I godown to this clap audio and select it Ihave an option right here on the infobar kind of in the middle area here Ican hit invert phase on or off sometimesif you don't hear your audio or youthink there's some kind of phasecancellation you can just per eventchange that right thereif you right click on your toolbar youhave a little X stands for the mute toolwhen you click on any event it will mutethat out or click it again to unmute itand you also have this feature to exportselected events this is a somewhat newerfeature in Cubase and it's kind of avariation of the render and place optionthe dialog that opens up is real similarthe difference is it's a good way tojust put a piece of audio or selectedpieces of audio on a different harddrive or a different area for storagethat you can then pull back in any wayyou want but the way you do it is youstart by making a selection I'm going togo to my range tool and again you can doit with one piece of audio or manypieces of audio and or midi in thisexample I have some muted midi and thenI have some audio and if I grab my rangetool and I make a selection over all ofthese and I go up to the option saysfile down to export you have an optionthat says the selected events so if Ihit that get your various options justlike you would with render in place themain thing here is to pick their filelocation so you have a little drop downyou would choose that pick your folderand then I'm going to hit export it willlet you know if there's something in thefull that has the same name give you anoption to make a unique name I'm goingto say okay yeah go ahead and do thatand just like that it will export all ofthese things but it exports them into aWAV file so even the midi becomes wavenow these midi tracks were all muted soit's just going to be nothing but ablank WAV file now if I want to bringthem back into the project I pretty muchdo the same thing I go back to file butthis time I go down to import I sayaudio file and if it doesn't open up tothe file I saved it to I would have tonavigate but a lot of times it remembersthe folder on my Windows Explorer itactually allows me to preview thesefilesat that point I can take one of them orI can select all of them again it willtell you if something's been usedalready or you want to reuse it buteither way I'm going to click this andsay Yes it asks me if I want to puteverything onto one track or ondifferent tracks I'm going to saydifferent tracks at that point I haveall the new audio in place and I canjust play that if I wantand it basically provides you an easyquick way to Import and Export audio inand out of your project now if we dothis again if I go back and I select allthese events and I go through the samesteps file to export to selected eventsas I look down this list I also havekind of a grayed out area it says usethe custom name if I click on this andsay use custom name this now lights upan option where this little gear here bythe scheme if I open this up I get anaming scheme which allows me to createspecific custom names the first optionis to hit the little drop down arrow andyou can create a new scheme or delete ascheme if you have one in there let's goahead and create a new one it puts theword custom here but I can change thisto whatever I want let's call it newyou can add various attributes you havename or free text or project name folderpath the event name what you would do isyou double click on these let's say Itake the project name and I double clickon it and now that shows up down here inthis result areayou have an option here that says freetext if I double click on that thatshows up in the results and then if Idouble click on the actual name of it Ican type in another name I'm just goingto leave it as free text and all thetime that you're double clicking andadding these in you get a preview downhere what you'll actually get you havethe option to determine what kind ofseparator you want in other words whatsymbol do you want in the middle of yourdifferent attributes right now there's alittle Dash but let's say I double clickon this and make it into a hashtag justhold shift and then number three and nowit shows down in my preview whatever itis but it has a little hashtagseparating the attributes you have someoptions down here that show the counterin case you want to number your eventsin order to do that you have to doubleclick this counter attribute and now youcan pick number one number two whateveryou want how many digits and that getsadded into the preview text if I goahead and hit OK and now I hit exportnow let's go up to the file in theimport my audio fileI now can see that the extra parts thatwere added all have the different namingschemes that I added in there includingnumbers so great way to organize any newfiles you want to add and then I haveall my different audio parts and I canbring them into my project however Iwantand that completes all of our currentinformation on parts and events asalways if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatbefore you go has links to all thecontent on this channel ever growing andfree to use it's your new resource forquick answers instead of having tostruggle through a long search forinformation when you need it so theparts and events pretty much afoundational subject when you're usingCubase today we went through the fillLoop options and moving events talked alittle bit about grouping events and howyou can group things into a folder anddo editing we looked at the Lock and theunlock we looked at how we can invertthe phase if we need to took a quicklook at the mute tool and then thatgreat option of exporting events and allthe different naming schemes that areavailable as we continue our journeythrough all the features and functionsin Cubaseso we hopefully can free our creativeprocess and once and for all get awayfrom being stuck or confused by somefeature or functionas always it's great to have you guyshere I'll see you on the next video
