interesting subject of parts andevents in Cubase previous videos and allvideos to this channel are always in thenavigation guide in the link below butlet's lead off today talking about someof the split options when you look up onyour toolbar you have all these toolsway up on the top here one of them is alittle pair of scissors when you clickon that now when you go down to any midior audio in the project window you cansplit it just by clicking on it and thenthat makes that into two events or asmany as you cut it up into you canalways right click when you're down onthe project and select that tool as wellif you haven't changed anything in yourshortcuts and you're working on a pieceof audio or midi if you hold your Altkey it also turns into a little pair ofscissors and then you can just quicklyclick on different areas and make allkinds of splits now I have these fourdifferent audio eventsyou can move your cursor to some areathat you want to split and you havevarious options up under edit if youcome down to the functions menu you haveone that says split at cursor now I wantto show you also I have a shortcut keyalt X and this is also one of thosethat's real valuable to know as ashortcut the alt X if I select a splitat cursor I now have these two piecesand this works the same way even ifyou're working on multiple pieces ofaudio or midi at the same time so if Icontrol Z back out of this but insteadthis time I hit alt X I have the sameresult I'm splitting this audio asimilar option to the split at cursor isif you make a selection with the rangetool and then you go back up to youredit down to your functions there's onethat says split add Loop and the samething I have a shortcut here alt Q if Igo ahead and hit split it loop I nowhave this cut into three pieces and thisalso assumes that you have the optionwhere your looping Point follows yourrange selection and again the same thingapplies if you have multiple pieces ofaudio this will split all of those downthe line here now I want to share thisone with you that was very annoying forme for the very longest time and itapplies to when you're splitting midievents so I have this midi part here[Music]and this long part at the end I want tosplit so I go to my split tool and I goup here and I make a cut and then maybeI make my erase tool that I erase it soI have the smaller piece of midi which Iassume is going to stop now but WatchWhat Happensforeign[Music]it still rings out I've cut it off butit still rings out what's going on withthat there's nothing here if I doubleclick on this piece of midi you can seeright here that the actual event thisdark area here is what I want to haveplayed and yet the notes are stillringing out like they were before itdidn't cut these notes off over and overagain I've had Parts like this where themidi keeps ringing out even though I'vecut the part away and if you startadding another midi part let's say afterthis you're going to have these notesringing into your next midi part I canjust tell you this is one of thosethings when you're putting your projectstogether that can be very annoying and Iused to just assume this is how it wasso I would always have to select my midinotes and then I would drag them back totry to make them smallerbut what a lot of extra work you know ifI cut it I assumed it would just cut itwell it turns out there's actually apreference that governs that behavior ifyou go up to your edit down to yourpreferences and in your first categorythat says editing if you come down towhere it says midi and click on that youhave some various options but you haveone here that says split the midi eventsif that's not checked then those midievents don't get split so if we checkthis and then I hit apply I say okay andnow I want to do the same thing I go andI get my split tool I cut this midiwhere I want it I go to my array stool Iget rid of it and now when I play thispart[Music]it ends the way I expected it to if Iopen up the midi in the editor I can seethat that midi has been sliced offexactly where I want it to be and nowhere's one of those golden moves thatyou're going to be so glad you know ifyou select your split tool the littlescissors and as we said you can click onsomething and it'll cut it right therebut if you hold the ALT key just beforeyou click it it will look at that eventwhere you're at it'll split it at thepoint where you've got it and the restof the event at exact same intervals allthe way down the line here and you cando that at whatever interval length youwant for example if I zoom in here alittle bit and I click it maybe at asmaller Point hold alt when I clickit now makes no splits at that intervalall along the line here if I make iteven a smaller amount hold alt and clickI can split all along therethat is just one of those golden toolmoves that if you know that you're goingto be real happyanother good option when you're makingselections and you want to cut thingsout take your range tool you make aselection and you go up to edit down tothe range and then you have an optionthat says cut the head and when you hitthat it will take everything in front ofyour selection and cut it offsame thing make a selection go up toedit and range and instead this time saycut the tail and this time it will takeeverything after your selection offso regarding copy and pasting there's alot of options available for thatbut I have to say the one I use the mostis one I've never really learned or readanywhere I just kind of stumbled on itmyself and I find that if you just takeyour range tool and make whatever rangehe does you want to copy doesn't matterif it's a measure or a fraction whateverit is just just make some kind of rangeof piecethen hit your control C to copy it andwhen you go to whatever place you wantto paste it again draw some kind ofrange and it doesn't have to be the samesize just has to be a starting point andthen when you hit Ctrl Vyour part will be pasted in thereperfectly now for example like I said itdoesn't have to be the right size so ifI make just like a little quarterselection here when I paste it itautomatically puts in the right amountof space by the same token if I makesome huge amount of space by mistake andhit Ctrl V it automatically just shrinksit to the right pasted size so that islike the super easy way to make any kindof copy paste make a range selection onwhat you want to copy Ctrl Cgo up to wherever you want to paste itmake some kind of range selection hitCtrl V and you're set to go like we saidwhen you're using the split tool and youhold your alt and you make thesemultiple splits if you go to your gluetool afterwards and you hit the gluetool every time you hit it it will pasteit to the next event next to it and youcan just keep you know hitting itmultiple times keep gluing it if youwant or the shortcut for that is justhold all when you hit your glue tool andit will automatically glue to everythingdown the line so when it comes tocopying your parts or duplicating themor repeating them they all kind of fallinto the same category typically if yougo to a midi part and hit Ctrl D you canduplicate that partsame thing with an audio part if I hitCtrl d i can duplicate it with anyevents you can always just hold alt anddrag out additional copies if you wantif you go down to the right or the endeither way and hold alt you can clickand drag and make various copies ofsomething if you need itand each one of these copies when youmake things like this these areconsidered to be real copies meaningthat whatever you do to one is you knowindependent of any of the other ones butyou have this option if you need it tomake what's called a shared copy andshared copies basically allow you tohave the control of making a change toone of your copies and that same changehappens to all of your copies whenyou're dealing with midi you basicallydo the same thing you just hold alt anddrag it out at the last minute hold yourshift key and you'll see down in thebottom it'll say a shared copy and whenyou let go of that this copy now hasthese little equal signs up in the upperright and the difference with somethinglike this is if I make a change let'ssay in this midi part and I take thesenotes and I delete them all my midiParts have those notes now deleted soany change I make to one midi part makesa change to any of the other midi partsthat's what's known as shared copies ifyou're going to do it to an audio youhave one extra step of making this audioevent into a part it so you would selectyour audio go up to audio and say eventsdepart now the same thing applies if Ihold alt and I drag this out I've madecopies but if I hold shift at the lastsecond now it makes these shared copiesand the same thing it has this littleequal sign up there in the upper rightso now if I make some kind of change toone of these audio parts say I take alittle section here and I deletesomething out of it that has nowhappened to every one of these audioparts so if you have something in yourproject where you've got some kind ofpiece of audio and you think you'regoing to be wanting to change all ofthose parts with different various editsthis is the way to go with the sharedcopy now at some point you decide withyour shared copy you don't want it toaffect all the other parts anymore youwant to make it back into a real copythat's simply a matter of grabbingwhatever part you want to work on goingback up to edit go down to yourfunctions and you have an option thatsays convert to a real copy and when youdo that that little equal sign up in theupper right will disappear and then thatpart will now become independent allright that's going to wrap it up fortoday as always if you haven't grabbedyour navigation guide
