Parts and Events V2 in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from Thedigitalaudiomanual.com Today we'removing on to our second video as wecontinue to discuss parts and events inCubase but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe free content navigation guide whichis an easy to navigate webpage withlinks to all the content on this channeland besides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or any Time videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we move on to the secondvideo on the subject of parts and eventsprevious videos as always or in thenavigation guide in the link below nowthis brings us to the topic of regionsand we've kind of hit on regions invarious other videos at various timesbut the idea of the region is that youcan take little sections of your audioevent and then make them into smallerpieces to be used so if I take like adrum Loop like thisand I drag it into the projectand maybe I want to take just a littlesection of itwith my range tool now I can go up intothe audio menu come down to Advanced andgo over to an option that says event orrange as region remember any of thesethings in Menus can be assignedshortcuts into your preference and keycommands but right now I'll just hit itfrom the menu select it and it asks meto give it a name if I want but I'lljust hit OK and if we look up in ourpool now we have the original audio thatwe just pulled in this drum Loop butnext to it there's a plus sign and nextto that plus sign there is now thislittle region section which I canaudition up in the pool if I wantbut now I can take this region and I cangrab it and bring it into my project andI have a separate little piece of audioI can use and this is just referringback to the original audio event so itadds no extra audio but it gives you theability to complete change or use theaudio in a whole different way there'sanother option but let me demonstrate itwith some different Loops let's say Itake this Loopgrab that bring it into the project whatelse we got here let's take this onenow we can take every one of these andmaybe make some different regions out ofall of these I'll take this bottom oneand take this sectiongo back up to my audio do the same thingevent as a region and maybe I'll takethis other loop here and take a littlesection and do the same thing event isregion now we could do what we just didgo up to the pool find those littleregions and drag them in but they havegiven us also another option for that ifI select all these pieces of audio goback up to my audio and now any of theseaudio events that I put regions intothere's an option that says events fromregion so if I click on this it willslice those pieces automatically andleave only the little regions that Icreated allowing me to take those piecescombine them if I want in different waysand then I have a whole different pieceof audio[Music][Applause][Music]so now this brings us on to MIDI eventsand there's many ways to create midievents to bring midi events into yourproject basically anytime you recordsomething in MIDI on a track you'regoing to get a midi eventsay if I go to groove agent one of theconsents included in Cubase and I hitrecord on that trackI then have a midi eventby the same token you can drag midievents into a project for example if Igo over to Media Bay let's pick a loopsand samples categoryand up on the top when we show the mediatypes typically I have all the mediatypes but if I uncheck that and I saygive me just the MIDI files then you geta bunch of MIDI files with these littlemidi cord icons in front of them you canjust take one of these and drag themonto your project and they will playpatterns as wellokay now let's launch into the idea ofthe part specifically the audio part andthis is really why I started and why Iwanted to do these videos to get intothis and explain this a little bit morethoroughly as we've said already theclip is the non-destructiverepresentation of the audio it's at thevery basic level here and that clip ishoused in this audio event but now if wetake these audio events say I take thisone that I have here and I slice it backup into four pieces and I'm going todrag this onto another track just tomake it more clear and I'm going to usealt and drag to do it so now I havethese four audio events if I select allof theseif I take any one of these audio eventswhether by itself or together and Idouble click on it this opens up in thesample editor which then is allowing usto work on the actual clip inside of theevent but now if we take these audioevents and select them all and I go upto audio I come down to an option thatsays events departthis has now taken these four audioevents and enclosed them into a part andthat's what the parts are they'rebasically containers for the audioevents there's a couple of other waysyou can just create empty Parts veryquickly if I go down to another audiotrack and I go to my draw tool and Iclick and I draw this has created thisempty audio part container and we'regoing to get into more specifically thisin just a second but I just want to showyou these basic ways of creating theseif I delete that and I hold the ALT keyand just keep my select tool down I canjust quickly drag one as well and makeanother audio part and the way I like todo it most of all if I already have mylocator set up here I just go to a trackand I double click and it automaticallycreates a part for me right between thelocators so the first difference toexplore what is the value of an audiopart the Practical value islet's go back to our basic audio eventsfor a minute if you have like a bunch oflittle audio events like this let's sayI shrink this down to something likethis and let's say I'm in my project andI'm going to be moving these four audioevents around a lot in my project aslong as I select them all by clickingand dragging over them it's very easy toselect them and move them around andthat kind of thing but we've got a bigproject going and lots of tracks andlots of different little sectionsin many ways just from a practical pointof view it's easier many times to takethese events go up to your audio and sayevents apart and now you have this onepiece which is almost like another eventwhich contains these four little eventsand it makes it very easy to just moveit around and deal with it as one objectin your project just from a practicalstance of moving things around that'sone of the things about these parts butas everything it goes way way beyondthat so when I go back and I make thepart again containing these four slicesthe difference now is instead of openingup in the sample editor when I doubleclick on a part that contains audio itnow opens up those audio events inWhat's called the audio part editor andthis now gives you basically a full workarea I can change their order I canslice them I can do all kinds of justdifferent operations in the audio parteditor and we're going to dig into allthis come coming up but if I close thisI'm still just with one simple littleaudio part so this is the beginning ofthe power of the audio part the way itallows you to take various audio eventsand then deal with them on a wholedifferent level if at any time youcreate an audio part and you want to putit back into the original events or atleast to the events that are containedin the part just like we went to audioand create part if you go to audio downto dissolve part then our audio eventsbecome singular again and back to justseparate little events all right so thelast things let's talk about today justas a basic introduction when you'redealing with uh midi as opposed to audioand you look at a midi track and this isa midi track has a little keyboard onthe front of it midi tracks deal withmidi information like audio deals withaudio but the same rules apply whencreating one I can go to my draw tool ifI want to create a part and draw one inagain with a part they're just emptyholders containers but also the samething applies if I hold my ALT key anddrag I can create a part that way and ifI have my locators up here I can justdouble click and that creates a partonce you create a midi part if youdouble click on it it opens up in What'scalled the key editor which we've donemany videos on and this is where actualmidi notes would appear which we'll getinto more as we go here and then there'san option to actually create folders ifyou right click over in your track areaand you go to the option that says add atrack and you look down that listsomewhere you'll see the option tocreate a folder and once you create afolder that's another container that youcan actually drag any kind of track intoif I take this track and I drag it upinto the folder you get like a littleline that goes across it and that trackbecomes part of that folder when youclick on folders a little icon on themthey open and close and it's just a wayto keep you know all your tracksorganized but here's your final tip ofthe day if you create folders for yourtracks at any time whatever you put intoyour folder like in this case I havesome midi tracks for my drum here and Ihave some audio tracks for the vocalsdown here and they're all inside of thisone main folder I called it the tunefolder if at any time I go to this tunefolder I double click on it it thenopens up every single piece of audio andmidi in many individual editors so if Ihave 10 or 15 Parts which includevarious midi parts and various audioparts they all open up at one time andnow I can go through the differenteditors in this case I have fourdifferent audio parts in the sampleeditor they're all open at the same timeI can hold my alt and tab scroll over tomy key editor which now contains a listhere of every single midi part that wasavailable in that folder and I can clickthrough now each one of those midi Partsindividually and edit them all withouthaving to open up any more windows I canhold my alt and tab go back to my mainproject which is still here and then ifyou want to close all those windowsbecause now you have many many windowsopen in the background on your menu baryou have an option that says window ifyou go down to where it says close allclick on that and you could at thispoint just close the whole project andsave it if you want but there's anoption at the end that says cancel andjust like when we created or bounce theaudio effects and they went into thepool same thing happens here if I hitcancel all those windows have now closedin the background except for the projectand I'm back to where I was all rightthat's going to wrap it up for today asusual if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatfrom the link below this video containsall the links to all the content on thischannel ever growing free to use all thesubjects in order constantly beingupdatedand once you get it you can use it todayor use it six months from today when youhave a problem and you need to get ananswer quick it's there for your use andit's there for me to use and the wholepoint is to try to make all theconfusion go away and make the learninga whole lot easier so today we learned alittle bit more about creating theregions how to make some events from theregions how to make some midi events welearned that the events are basicallyjust containers for the clips we had ourfirst look at the part editor we make anactual audio part and we learn someshortcuts on how to draw our partswhether they're midi or audio or eventhe folder Parts all right great to haveyou guys here I'll see you on the nextvideo
