third videoof the subject of note expressionprevious two videos are in thenavigation guide in the link below andin the previous videos we've kind ofbeen looking at how to add and draw andremove and choose our different kinds ofnote expression but let's start outtalking today about some of the specialfunctions that are available in variousmenus if we come back over to ourinspector section in the node expressiontab we come down to the bottom of thisdrop down menu with a bunch of differentoptions let's explore some of these formy example I drew in three differentkinds of node expression on thisparticular note some volume some pan anda tone color and if we look up in thewindow for the note expression a coupleof things occur anytime we start usingthe node expression we get a littleasterisk by that particular kind of databy the volume there's a little markingby the pan there's a little Mark and bythis tone color there's a little Mark wealso have this option on the left thatshows these different kind of checkboxes we're going to talk about that ina second in many ways this function menuis going to affect how things are viewedlet's get a real good handle on whatwe're viewing already currently in thisexpression list we're seeing all thedifferent kinds of expression that'sbasically available and there's quite afew options here from volume to pan togo to the bottom after touch just on andon different ones if we go down our listthe first option says show only the usedExpressions if we click on thateverything disappears except what'sbeing used with one little exception ifI had something highlighted like in thiscase I have tuning highlighted thatremains visible as well which is kind ofstrange because there's actually onlythree kinds of node expression beingused the volume the pan and the tonecolor those are the only one with thelittle asterisk next to them this tuninghas no asterisk and it's not being usedin any node expression but because itwas highlighted in the list before Icheck this option of show only the usedExpressions it remains in this morerefined list the minute I click off ofthis onto some other expression that isbeing used that one disappears so youhave some pretty specific behaviors interms of what shows in the view here nowthe other thing to realize about thislist is that these other ones won'texclude this first choice this firstchoice is kind of an on and off andthat's why it has a little check mark byit if I want to see all my noteexpression again I have to uncheck thisand now my list repopulates with all mydifferent choices now next on the listsays make all expression visible kind oftalked about this before that you coulddo this this is the first time we'regoing to see it before I check this wecome over to this note that has the noteexpression and I hit the little downarrow on the lower left I can see that Ihave volume and pan and this tone coloroption and depending on which one Ichoose from this list that depends onwhat I see up here that can be edited inthe screen well if I go back over hereand I choose this next option that saysmake all Express questions visible mywindow now shows me all three differentkinds of note expression that I havehere depending on the colors it maystill seem like they're almost not therebut they're there the only one I canedit is the one that's checked in thelower left zone so even though I can seethem all if I really want to edit one Ihave to choose that one and then I cango about editing it however I want goingdown to the next one it says make onlythe edited expression visible so nowit's going to go back to the way it waswhere it only shows one expression at atime again you'd have to go to the lowerleft pick your expression that you wantto edit and go from there or going backto the list you could choose the thingsin the list and be able to edit themthat way and that's kind of theadvantage of having this first optionthat says show only the used expressionso instead of having to go through the13 to 14 different Expressions to doyour editing if you choose your firstoption to say show only the usedexpression now when you're in this listthe only thing you can work with is thestuff that's actually written in thefirst place now before I go further onthe list let's talk about what theselittle check boxes do in a way these arelike the show all X Russian type optionin other words if I take one of theseother check boxes and turn it on thatalso becomes visible in the expressionwindow if I go to the third option andclick that on that also becomes visibleso here you can specifically pick whatremains visiblewhether it's highlighted or not and asyou highlight things they automaticallybecome visible another option to payattention to I've unchecked every one ofthese visibility boxes when I come downto the option that says make all theexpression visible it automaticallychecks every one of those boxes if Icome to the next option and say makeonly the edited expression visible itunchecks all those options unless I havesomething highlighted like I do here andthat remains checked so if I want thatundone I have to uncheck it so you haveall these various options in terms ofhow to choose and see this nodeexpression data so let's take a look ata couple of examples of node expressionand non-node expression presets if wecome to this first one this accentedbrass I can go over in the inspectorright here in the project window andwhen I click on the Node expression Ican see that I have volume pan and I cansee that I have all these midicontrollers at the bottom but I alsohave a couple of things called emphasisand tone color these are the thingsyou're going to get with node expressionthese kind of unusual extra littleoptions for coloring the sound watchwhat I mean if I close this go back tohallion with a different preset thistime I just loaded in this 80s pianolayer which is not a note expressionpreset again I have things like thevolume and the pan and have all thesedifferent kinds of midi controllers sothose are kind of the same no matterwhat go to this third choice and thisone I put a nylon string guitar with noexpression and this one has volume penbut now this one also has tuning andthings like muted strings to get thesevery specific ways to change individualsounds so the things that are the sameis usually you'll get a volume in thepan the tuning and all the differentmidi controllers but what's differentwith the node expression presets is youget emphasis and mute strings and andother things that are very specific tothe sound now let's use some of thesereal quick and just see what happens goto this nylon string guitar part seewhat we have here[Music]foreignnice pleasant sound let's open it uplet's use some of these options thatthey give us for example tuning whathappens if we go to tuning on an nylonstring guitar I'm just going to pick onenote here let's go to this D3 I'm goingto double click pick my line tool anddraw a small curve hereand then we can click on the note andhear itthere you go let's listen to that realquicknow let's change these down here let'stake advantage of some of this mutedeffect take my pencil tool and draw insome expression therenow let's hear what we have on this[Music]no doubt that add some extra realism allright so let's just do a few morepresets for fun today I'm gonna pickthis one that says the clean blues harpagain these all say no exp for noteexpression on them make a little examplelike this[Music]so some of the unusual choices here wehave the tuning and we have a tremoloamount and a tremolo speed let's messwith this tremolo amount double click onthis held noteI'm gonna take my pencil tool and drawin a little data see what that soundslike[Music]nice effect we have another one thatsays tremolo speed let's add some ofthat in there draw a little bitnow we have this[Music]that adds some realism from thebeginning let's hear it[Music]all right let's do one more this onesays New Age choir let's try this wehave this kind of soundoh[Applause]this time let's select all of thesenotes because we can do them all at onceif we want double clickand let's go to the option in our noteexpression we have Brilliance I'll usemy line tooldraw a straight line up pretty muchsee what that does[Applause]puts a lot of air on the top of it so nomatter how you look at it playing withthe note expression and adding it inadds a lot of extra realism to thesesounds okay that's going to wrap it upfor today as always if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that from the link below the videogives you quick easy access to all thecontent on this channel ever growing andfree to use content is in order andcontinually being updated it's there tohelp you make your life easier and mylife easier as we continue looking atthe note expression today we kind of duginto the visibility options and wecompared some extra presets just for funwe also saw what some of the notes looklike without note expression extra dataon them and that really there's somethings that are the same but there'ssome things that are different eitherway it always adds some extra realismwhen you use the note expressions and wewill continue on there's a few morethings to discuss on this subject asalways it's great to have you guys hereand I'll see you in the next video
