Note Expression V2 in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from Thedigitalaudiummanual.com Today we'removing on to our second video as wecontinue discussing note expression inCubase but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe free content navigation guide whichis an easy to navigate webpage withlinks to all the content on this channeland besides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wave lab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime that videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started we did a previous videostarting with Note expression that wasvideo one that was kind of a generaloverview now we're going to move on tovideo two here and of course all videosare always in the navigation guide inthe link below but now I want to startdigging into all the practical uses thehow to's and the ways to make thingseasier when you're dealing with this butif you have no clue about nodeexpression at all you may want to goback and watch that first video just toget you up and running plus it tells youhow I use helion Sonic in these examplesand how I get it set up in the firstplace so if you have no idea of thatstuff you're going to want to go backand watch that because at this pointwe're just going to go from that pointand move onward so the first basic stepone if you have no other shortcuts andthings assigned which we're going totalk about pick a note right click on itfolding control and you'll have theoption that says open node expressioneditor now the first thing you're goingto be hit by if you're anything like meis how tiny this window is and you'regoing to say well shoot I want to makethis thing bigger I can't really workwith that and you're going to be temptedto kind of want to grab it fromdifferent Corners like you would anormal window and try to resize it andyou're going to find there's no optionto do that but there is options tochange the size and they have an effecton how it edits so we want to be awareof that as we go forward the other thingis there's no real option to move itaround if you try to grab it and let'ssay you move it it kind of stays overthe note that you're editing now you'llnotice if you go to another node andclick on it the editor will bounce overthat note and it changes in sizedepending on how little your midi noteis if I hit a small midi note look athow tiny that editor is how in the heckcan you work with that well that's agood question if I go over here andclick on this note I have a little morespace and see I have some data alreadywritten so the first thing I'm going toshow you and suggest understand if youwant a better view of the editor makeyour midi notes bigger there's many waysto do that the easiest way is to rightclick go to your Zoom tool then justclick and drag over the area you want towork now with your notes at a big sizelike this if I do the same thing and Iright click on a note and I say open theexpression editor I have a much betterview of how to work with things even onthe tinier notes but I have some kind ofview of what I'm working with so that'sone option and if you click on theeditor window somewhere else the littletiny editor goes away the next thing Iwant to call your attention to is what'savailable on the toolbar again let's goto a typical toolbar you're going to seeall this kind of stuff up here I'm goingto remove all these buttons and make iteasier to see for a minuteand if I right click in this area on mytoolbar I have an option that says showthe node expression data which I canclick and then I get this tiny optionhere excuse me two buttons I canactivate first one if I turn it on nowallows me to double click on any noteand open up the editor again once it'sopen you can click around without havingto do that but if you need to open theeditor double clicking is a great optionas opposed to having to hold Ctrl rightclick and that kind of thing the nextoption up on this toolbar allows you toactually see the node expression data soif you have any data already in placethis makes it more visible I'm going tohit this you can see various things thathave changed but if you look over thisparticular note I'm going to zoom in onit againthen you can see all this nodeexpression data that's been writtenright on this note now there's alwayssomething that shows on the Noteregardless there's always a little likeicon up in the upper rightthese notes don't have it this one doesso there's a few different kinds of waysto see if there's no expression data onyour notes now let's get into actuallywriting and removing some of this databecause that's another thing you getvery frustrated over if you don't knowwhat to do I'm going to double click anote if I have data in the window I cansimply hit Ctrl a for control all andhit delete and I can remove it I can putthat back in there againI can click on the data I can kind ofmove it around in the window if I needto back and forth up and downlet's click it and remove it againcontrol all delete you can easily useyour draw tool or your line tool to putthat in let's use the draw tool and Ican just start drawing itI can hit control alland delete to remove it let's draw itback in againforeigna little tool tip screen that shows whatkind of data you're drawing right nowfor my example it says CC1 modulationnext to that on the left there's alittle drop down arrow as we're drawingthis data in if we go over on the farleft into our expression window anythingwe highlight let's say I'm going tohighlight pan here now takes over inthat lower left area and again I cantake my pencil or my line tool let'stake the line tool this time I can drawa line of pan data now once you've drawnthis data in if we go down to this listbecause I have two different kinds ofdata in here now I have pan andmodulation I can now choose either onelet's say I go back to the modulationand then I can see that data or I canhit the drop down list and go back to mypan data and I can see that that wouldbe your first thing to do is just clickon some notes use either your pencil oryour line tool and just draw some datain just to get a feel for how to do thatand I would recommend go ahead anddrawing at least two different kinds ofdata in there and again to drawdifferent kinds of data you got to comeover and pick something else from thelist on the left I'm gonna go down hitpitch bend on this we've got some Pitchpen data in and then again I can seeeither one now there are ways to seeeverything we're going to cover thatcoming up right now this is the one orthe other type of thing so now the nextimportant thing how do you get thisstuff out of here how do you remove itwe just said you can control all and youcan delete it and remove it that way butlet's say you've gone ahead and you'vewritten data on all these notes maybeyou got five different kinds ofdifferent node expression data on everyone of these notes do you really want tosit here and go through each one andright click and then one by one try toremove the data you might make anall-day process out of just trying toremove your node expression fortunatelythey didn't leave us in that predicamentlet's go to a note that has nodeexpression I'll click on thisand this has two different kinds of noteexpression data on it if we want to getrid of this besides doing the way wejust did we can go up to our midi menuyou can find our way down to the optionthat says node expression and we'regiven a whole bunch of options herewe're going to explore these but themost important one right now is comedown here and it says remove the noteexpression thank goodness for this so ifI click on it it removes the nodeexpression now because I had the notesselected it removed all of the noteexpression on that note even thoughthere was two different kinds of nodeexpression I took them both out at oneshot beyond that you can go to anotherlevel if you could select a bunch ofnotes any combination of notes do thesame thing go up to MIDI come down tonode expression and say remove the noteexpression and those notes would haveall their node expression removed beyondthat if I come out of the editor I caneven just take the event let's say thisevent's loaded with node expression atthis point and I just want to get rid ofall of it I can just select that eventcome up to my midi come down to my nodeexpression and once again say remove allthat node expression with one shot thatwhole event or multiple events if NessaMissouri have been completely clear tothe note expression so there's yourfirst steps learn how to take some notesdraw some note expressions in selectyour midi either at the note or theevent level and remove your noteExpressions now on that area I want toshow you one other thing that's good toknow you can actually go up to edit anddown to your key commands and in yourlist of key commands you actually have afolder here that says node expressionand in the no expression you have allkinds of options we're going to look atsome of these one of them that like wejust discovered is remove the nodeexpression if you want to assign a keyto that I just went ahead and assignedthe letter U to that hit ok now anytimeI just hit an event or a note oranything I can hit the letter U on mykeyboard and I remove all my nodeExpressions that simpleall right it's gonna wrap it up fortoday as always if you haven't grabbedyour navigation guide be sure to grabthat from the link below this videohere's a quick easy access to all thecontent on the channel ever growing andfree to use content is in orderconstantly being updated it's there tohelp make your life easier and make mylife easier when we're trying tostruggle and figure out what somethingis saying you can click on something andsee it demonstrated in real time so wemove along on the Node expression we sawsome options on how we can double clickto open the editor now we saw that we'reresizing the notes we resized the editorwe looked at the toolbar options for thenote expression we got a little morecomfortable on how to add and remove thedata which is really a big thing to knowthen I kind of showed you some optionsif you want to put a shortcut in therefor removing your data as well and wewill continue to explore what the nodeexpression subject has to offer asalways it's great to have you guys hereand I'll see you on the next video
