today we talk about

Managing Your Sounds in Groove Agent V3

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we'regoing to move on to our third video aswe discuss managing our sounds in thegroove agent SE in Cubase but before westart I want to remind you that there'sa link below to the content navigationguide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there if you'reworking with programs like wave laab orqbas Plugin begins or the cable gushaper box and many many other projectsthat are in the works then I know you'regoing to find just like I have that thisis an invaluable study Aid and the otherthing I want to make sure you understandis that this is not a simple PDF this isa constantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you okay solet's get started so we've looked atthese various tabs over here on thisload panel again when we look at thekits panel we don't see really anythingdown here in the bottom but if we hitany of these other tabs the instrumentsor the Styles or the midi or even thebrowser we get What's called the fileinfo section which is this thing at thebottom and most the time this file infoallows us to kind of like pre-list tothe various things so let's look at forexample instrument Styles this midi Taband most of the time you won't hearanything especially on the midi onesunless you have some kind of agent hereinstalled so let me make thisrecommendation first go to this kits tabmake sure on this drop down for thecontent you have all the agents the veryfirst thing selected and typically atthe very top of the list you should havethis thing that says 29 minutes toJupiter double click on that guy hit oneof the patterns make sure you got soundadjust your volume on your track if youhave to and look up here in the rackarea you should see a picture of thebead agent and if all that stuff is inplace you're good to go so going back tothe midi tab over here click on that guyand it just so happens that the veryfirst selections are part of this 29minutes of Jupiter now if you go downthe list you're going to see all kindsof different midi parts and that's okaybut let's just stay with these top onesfirst now a couple of things first ofall the volume as always make sure youturn that volume click on it with yourmouse and adjust it in fact I'd say turnit down for the minute till you knowwhat it's supposed to be and right nextto that you have a play button hit theplaybutton and it's going to start to playone of these midi parts then you canadjust your volume if youwant now as you look through this listof buttons at the far end you have aloop playback button and if you turnthat on this part is just going tocontinue to play allowing you toaudition it over and over again and youcan click on any of these other partsand listen to them let's go to thisfill and thisintro you can click on whatever you wantit's up to you you have a couple ofoptions you can stopit you can play it again you can pauseit and you can enact the autoplay if youwant so that any time you click onsomething and then it will justautomatically play whatever you selectas well and then stop but when you'redone so in this file info area youbasically get the name of the file youget his BPM the signature and the linkso you get some information down hereabout the file whatever you select if wemove from this midi tab over to thestyle tab you should see a bunch of kitsand fills and styles down here as wellif you don't go back up to your contentmake sure it has all agents selected andmine doesn't have Jupiter here anymoreit's got 80s and acid jazz and a bunchof other stuff but I can click on thesejust the same and I'm going to hear themone other thing I have different frombefore on most of these anyway there's abutton over here on the left called aStyle part and it lets you hear like theintro or the main part orfills or you can head it toendings so you have those differentoptions as well not only can youaudition these and if you want you candrag them onto these pattern pads butyou don't even need to do that you canactually just drag these right onto thetrack if I find something Ilike I can change this complexityhowever Iwant once I find it the way I like it Ican just take that and drag it rightonto the track and now I have that midipattern right there on the groove agenttrack to do what I want with upper lefthere into this area where you're goingto load and save programs and go to thelittle last down arrow it actually willhighlight and say preset management whenyou hover it with your mouse click on ityou should have an option to load apreset save a preset or save a defaultpreset go ahead and hit save a presetand a little preset window will open upnow if you have some presets savedalready they will show up here but morethan likely if you're new with this thisis just going to be a blank screen sothe first thing I want you to do is goup and hit this little icon here thatsays new folder click on the new folderand create a name put down I would sayyour tutorial projects or your grooveagent kits so we call it whatever youwant and then say okay once you've gotthat a folder will appear in my case itsays Groove agent tutorial kits with alittle folder Icon by it and I can nowrightclick on this folder icon and I amgiven some other names I can rename it Ican delete it or I can show it andexplore and this is important becausewhat we want to do right off the bat isstart getting some idea where this stuffis actually being backed up at it's veryimportant to know where your kits aregoing and your sounds and where they areon your computer so then you can managethem properly and like I said this isone layer of it there's other placeswhere things are bagged up we're goingto stay very simple so back to the newfolder that you just created and rightclick on it and take that option at thebottom that says show in explor and whenyou rightclick on it it should open upan Explorer window on your computer ofcourse I'm a Windows user I'm sure Machas a file explorer as well but eitherway it's going to open up and it's goingto show you the file location where thatfolder resides and of course right nowit should be empty because you haven'treally saved anything in it yet but theimportant thing is if you look at theaddress bar above where it shows wherethat folder is and you start backing outof it you're going to see that first offit's saved in a Groove agent SE folderI'm going to click on that guy whichshows what I just saw a minute ago whenI opened that save window it's got thosecouple of folders and my one kit inthere now going further if you look downthis list it says there's an option thatsays vst3 presets I'm going to click onthat and you'll see a bunch of othervarious things but ultimately you shouldsee that all of this resides in yourdocuments and that's what I want to showyou you may or may not even know thatSteinberg created a folder in yourdocuments called vst3 presets and noweverything that you do in in yourSteinberg program is getting backed upin this folder at least as far as ourdiscussion goes today like I saideverything I tell you there's more tothe story but we're going to stay realsimple here so the first thing I wouldhighly kind of guide you to do is openyour documents up and see if you canfind that vst3 presets so that you noware very much aware there is such afolder and it resides in your documentsand that's an important folder to knowabout but now going further in thatfolder there's one folder should becreated Steinberg media Technologies ifI double click that guy I get a wholehost of stuff that Steinberg's put inthere compressordistorter helion ping pong delay justall kinds of stuff and this is whereit's backing up all the differentpresets as I go down that list there's afolder that says Groove agent SE so I'mgoing to click on that and there I amI'm back to now the folder that I justcreated a few seconds ago and otherthings in there so you now should have agood idea where this initial backup isactually occurring when we go to thiswindow I'm going to close this down andI hit this down arrow that says load orsave a preset when I hit save a presetit opens up and now you should have anidea exactly where this folder is nowyou know it's in your documents allright so now that we have some ideawhere things are getting backed up let'sgo ahead and back something up just puta kit in there again it doesn't matterwhat doesn't have to be your kit justput a kit from the from this load paneldouble click on it and open it up thengo up to our drop down arrow that's thepreset management go to the option thattells you to save the preset and we nowknow somewhere where these folders arein our documents go ahead and open theone that you just created I'm going tohit my tutorial kits and notice there'sa little square icon here which standsfor the show attribute inspector so aswell as giving things a name you canstart putting in some these attributeslet's just throw a few in just for theheck of it we have a down here categorylet's click on this I'm going to goahead and put drum and percussion inthere and I'm going to go to rating forthe heck of it and I'll click on thatand give it two stars now I'm going togive it aname and I'm going to say GA kit onejust to get something going here and Ihit okay and then I'm going to confirmit go back up to that down arrow againbut this time I'm going to say the samething save preset just like I'm startingover and there I can see it is the gakit one so I know it's in there nowwe're going to talk about loading andstuff later again because there's morethings to know but for now we'll justclose this out and that's it for nowmoving on all right so let's go back toour load panel again and let's take alook at the browser we haven't reallylooked at that yet so hit the browserTab and the only thing we want to doright now is just get a rough idea rightnow mine shows an option for my computerfor the vsst sound and for user contentand I can click on each one of these andthat's what you should do as well andjust kind of explore what kind of thingsshow up down in the results area butnotice when we go to one that says usercontent when I click on that there's ourold friend the vst3 presets which weknow is in our documents let's go aheadand click on that and there's thatSteinberg media technology folder let'sclick onthat and I have both Groove agent oneand groove agent but if you have Grooveagent SE click onthat and lo and behold there it isthere's the stuff we just created youshould see the folder that you createdearlier you should be able to access ifyou just saved your kit in there sousing the browser is a good easy way toget into the things that you know thefolders and stuff once we've gonethrough a few folders in the browserSteinberg always kind of has thisnavigation thing that they do with theseair if you look up for me it's on thisupper left area there's a left arrow anda right arrow and then an up Arrow theup Arrow always takes you to the rootfolder or whatever you're looking at butthese other arrows which you think wouldjust kind of go back and forth throughthe different files what they actuallydo is they remember every move you'vejust made so every folder I looked atand every kind of thing I've clicked onit kind of will go through each one ofthose step by step backwards or forwardforward so it remembers everything Iclicked on if you start clicking on anyof these folders and browse your waythrough them if they ultimately containsamples you will finally come to a pointwhere you'll see those samples and youcan click on them and auditionthem and obviously as always there's awealth of things toexplore as you're clicking through yourfolders you can rightclick typically ona folder and you'll have an option tocollapse it if the folders are allexpanded you have an option to refreshthem in case something may not beaccurate and sometimes not always butsometimes you also have the third optionof show and explore which once againwill ultimately open that up in a fileexplorer and allow you to see where thelocation is of those files and that'sgoing to wrap it up for this one asalways if you haven't already be sure tograb your copy of the digital audiomanual content navigation guide from thelink link below this video it's a fasterbetter way to learn and review pick itup look it over all the different topicsthat are gathered there and then you twocan get started on your path to a betterway to learn all this stuff as wecontinue moving through Groove agent onthe topic of managing your sounds welooked at the file info section auditionbuttons the Style part we dragged theStyles into the tracks we began talkingabout loading and saving the programshow to create folders in that area wegot into where some of the filelocations are where the groove agent SEfolder is we saw where that vst3 presetsis in your documents we saved a kit welooked at the attribute inspector abrowser tab started talking about usercontent the navigation arrows how toaudition our samples and refresh somefolders we're going to continue toexplore and learn all these things aboutGroove agent as always it's great tohave you guys here and I'll see you onthe nextvideo
