today we talk about

Managing Your Sounds in Groove Agent V1

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we'regoing to start talking about how tomanage the sounds with Groove agent andCubase but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe content navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate web page with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there if you're working withprograms like wave laab or qbas pluginsor the cable guide shaper box and manymany other projects that are in theworks then I know you're going to findjust like I have that this is aninvaluable study Aid and the other thingI want to make sure you understand isthat this is not a simple PDF this is aconstantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to to you okay solet's get started so now we're going tostart having a little discussion abouthow to load save and manage some of thedifferent kinds of sound files in Grooveagent so if you have this load panelopen over here there's a couple ways tobring kits in now we already talkedabout picking one out and doubleclicking you can do that you can alsoclick and drag these for example I cantake this kit that's highlighted I candrag it up to this section which isWhat's called the rack and and I comeover this area it turns like into a redblock I let go of it and the kit isloaded ready to[Music]play I can click and drag it into thisarea that's called the kit slot and thatturns into a red block I let go of itand it loads and it's ready toplay and there's probably three maybefour other ways to load it fromdifferent browsers and different placesin qbase itself so we'll kind of coverthem as we go but just understandthere's definitely more than one way tobring a kid into Groove agent so let'sfirst look up in this area on the leftthis is what's called the kit slot and alot of things happen up here so let'stalk about this so you can actually justclick right on this slot and that'llopen a browser and allow you to pick outvarious kits and you can just clickthrough those if you want there's alittle drop- down arrow it does the samething when you click this slot and itshows you these kits and these kits areassigned just like they were before towhatever package you pick out of thisoriginal slot we've been staying withthis laser beam option but for examplesince I'm in the laser beam I'm seeingonly the kits in the laser beam and itstarts with this ambush of tigers andends with woodworker and you can clickyour way through these each one doubleclicking on it and that will allow youto preview and go through the kits ifyou want but there's this otheroption right here in the slot you havethese like previous and next kits andyou can sit here and click on these guysto preview down that list so you can godown that list or back up that list ifyou want each kit as we've kind of seenalready has its own set of patterns andstyles with it but if you look at thisload next and load previous there's abutton next to that that says load thekit with patterns if you turn that offit's going to keep the same pattern thatyou have on whatever kit you have andthen if you click to the next kit you'llget differentsounds but it'll be on those samepatterns most of the time I keep thepattern button on because if I'm workingwith preset drum sets I want thosepatterns that came with the drum setnext to that is a tiny little buttonthat stands for the poliany poliany inmusical terms just means how many notescan be used and especially onsynthesizer type sounds if you restrictthe pany you're restricting how manynotes the synthesizer can use andthere's various times where you want todo that and there's various times whereyou definitely don't for example if Iclick on this it kind of highlights itand if I spin it with my mouse it startspicking numbers moving up 1 2 3 4whatever as many notes as I want to pickfor the pany but the default is to leaveit at pretty much zero which puts alittle infinite sign there whichbasically means it'll use as many notesas it needs to to play what it needs toand that's most of the time what you'regoing to want to leave it on next tothat is a tiny little button thatactually lights up I like we said beforeI have a keyboard hooked up when I hitmy keyboard it lights up showing thatthere's activity coming in from someother source like mykeyboard and then this last button inthis list up here on top is the velocitycurve and when you click that you get abunch of choices what the velocity curveis typically again when you have akeyboard or something hooked up if I hititsoft the note plays soft if I hit itharder it hits it harder and that's whatthey call the velocity curve it's goingto follow depending on how hard I hit itdepending on what you have hooked up ifsomething needs to be different you haveother choices and basically you wouldjust experiment with these till you findone that responds the way you want forme this linear one at the top works justfine then below the slot you have someoptions right on this display and thefirst one there's a button that saysfollow transport you don't think it's abutton because it just says words but ifyou click it it actually highlightsyellow when that is off when I hit mytransport in inqbasethe track plays but the drums don't butif I turn the follow transport on when Iclick my space bar andqase the drums will play as well that'swhat's called follow the transport youhave this song position pointer up hereand if I keep it on the followtransport it actually shows what bar QBas is on it actually shows that evenwithout the followtransport but if I use these playbuttons down below which sometimes we dothen it always starts at 1 as we saidGroove agent always follows the tempo ofyou know whatever qase is playing and itactually says that right here on theright of this display right here showingthe tempo 128 which is mine if I changethe tempo like I'm going to spin it downaminute it actually reflects that up herein this Tempo area as well and thenmoving off of this kit slot when we moveover into this middle area where thispicture is this is called the kit rackas we saw when we were looking at theacoustic agents it showed a picture of adrum set but because we're looking at abead agent it's showing right now apicture of a beat agent if you go tothis picture and you right click you getthis context menu and there's a lot ofstuff on this context menu feel free toexplore through this context menu we'regoing to be going through all theseoptions but if you want to look at themand just start understanding them orseeing what they look like feel freereturning to this load panel and lookingat some other options again besideseverything we've been doing with it youalso can undock this thing there's atiny little arrow in the upper right ifI hit that this thing turns into its ownseparate window when you're done you canactually hit this down arrow in the samespot and it returns back to being dockedand that's going to wrap it up for todayas always if you haven't already be sureto grab your copy of the digital audiomanual content navigation guide from thelink below this video it's the fasterbetter way to learn and review pick itup look it over all the different topicsthat are gathered there and then you tocan get started on your path to a betterway to learn all this stuff so we begintalking about how to manage our soundsagain we looked at the different ways ofloading the kits in the kit slot withpatterns we saw the pany buttons and themedidi activity the velocity curvefollow transport button we talked alittle bit about the kit rack menuoptions then we saw how to undock thefile browser and we will continue tolook through all these features andfunctions with Groove agent and cuase asalways it's great to have you guys hereand I'll see you on the next[Music]video
