hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our second video as we discuss Loopsin wavelab but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wave lab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper Box 2 and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos are changereally anything updated and once youhave it you will always have the latestinformation constantly updated so if youhaven't gotten it already go to the linkbelow click on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so we're on the second video aswe talk about loops in wavelab theprevious video and all videos are in thenavigation guide and the link below andthen the last video we talked aboutsetting up the loop points and the loopmarkers and then opening up this tweakerdialogue and making some manual orautomatic adjustments but if we move onnow we have these other tabs for theCrossfade and the post Crossfade andthese are just other ways to do morerefinements if you need them if theautomatic and manual settings that youdo in the beginning here on the looppoints is working really that's all youneed but sometimes you need a little bitof extra with these crossfades so if youhit the Crossfade tab both the Crossfadeand this post cross fade are enactedwhen you hit this little check box andyou'll see some stuff turn on when youhit it and if you don't turn that onthen nothing happens and it's the samewith the pose Crossfade if I hit thislittle check box you'll see a littlepicture turn on or not be aware thatonce you check these and turn them onthen as you're going through what I'mgoing to show you next applying thechanges and that kind of thing that willcontinue to happen whether you have thistabs selected or not as long as thisthing is checked it's working let's turnthem back off for a second so the areasthat are getting affected when you turnthis Crossfade thing on all the arearight here before the loop Final endpoint you're going to see as I adjustmake some adjustments here it's going todo something to this wave and it willkeep moving backwards through this wavedepending on how much information Idecide to loop back over onto the waveand the thing to remember that the thecloser you stay to the loop endpoint themore natural things sound the more youtry to move it back and use materialprevious in theory it makes a smootherLoop point but it also kind of changesthe character of the sound on the otherhand when I change to the post Crossfadeoption that affects material happeningafter the loop point the purpose beingin case you have a click or something asthe loop ends and it goes back into theregular material this is an option todeal with that so let me try to give yousome examples so you can see this andmaybe it'll make more sense to you I'mgoing to start over the Crossfade optionI'm going to check the box to turn it onand you're given this graph withbasically two points on it one will kindof move the loop point back and forthand the other will kind of move thisCrossfade area up and downnow as you look at these boxes down hereone says length and one says the shapeas you move the lengthyou'll see the numbers change down herein this length box and as you move thisshape you'll see the numbers change inthe shape box so you could just comedown here and type them in but that'sthe great thing about having a graphicis you can just grab the points and moveit around and try to get the result youwant now this does not happen in realtime so you don't hear anything untilyou hit the apply button so I'm going todo a real drastic change heremove this Loop Crossfade all the way tothe far left and I'll move the shape allthe way to the top I'm going to play theloop without it first I haven't hitapply yetand I have a pretty good Loop Pointgoing alreadynow watch The Wave on this flute partwatch what happens to it when I hitapplylook at that I mean it totallydrastically changes really in anunusable way so this definitely wouldn'twork look what it's done to the soundthat's you know that gives us no resultthat's workable so I'd have to control Zto get back out of thisand let's try a little bit less drasticI'm going to bring this Loop Pointalmost to the end but maybe just alittle bit in now I'm going to hit applyagainand now what it's done is made a littleadjustment here at the end where it kindof boosted things but also made aCrossfade I'm going to make a kind of aselection of my own so we can hear itI'll play thatso we get that click as it turns aroundthis also made a fairly decent Crossfaderight as it approaches the end now thething is and here's the thing to noticewith this other shape option does is youlook at this wave let me see if I canzoom it in and make it more obvious ifyou look at the altitude of the wavegoing up what it did when it made theCrossfade it also made this bump righthere the amplitude has now increasedright here which would not be adesirable effect we want to keep thispretty much straight all the way throughso I'm going to control Z back out ofthis and that's where this shape comesinto play if I bring this up a littlebitif we're getting too much amplitude wejust bring that down a little bit so I'mgoing to crank it down a little bit moveit back a little bit hit the applybuttonand there we go now we have a little bitmore natural shape as it goes through itnow as you can see when it gets to theend of the loop it kind of drops off thecliff right here and that's what thepost Crossfade will fix we'll do that ina second let's play this real quickall right so now let's go to this postCrossfade so I go over to the postCrossfade I'm going to turn thisCrossfade option off because I don'twant it to do any more changing it willkeep rewriting and rewriting if I leaveit checked so I go to the pose CrossfadeI'm going to check that one same thing Ican kind of move thisarea around if I need to and I canchange that shape if I need to let'sjust try and see what it does first hitapplyand it's made a real big bump at the endwe don't like that so that's no good I'mgoing to control Z out of thatbring this thing down hit apply muchbetter much better but we don't needthis drastic of an end so we'll justmake it smaller here hit applyand now let's make a little section herewhat we've gotand that's very good there we go so thensometimes you get material that's notreally suited for looping it could besound effects or you know any kind ofvarious textures so then wavelab givesyou this other optional looping area thetone uniformizer so if I enact this andwhat this does is it basically takesvarious sections of the loop slices themup replays them over various other areasof the loop in various increments tryingto get the smoothest overlay of thetexture and it's very hard to understandat first listening to the material you'dprobably actually use this on so Icreated this nice little vocal test Loophere of me counting one two three fourin a very robotic sense let's listen tothisonetwothreefourthere you go now first thing we have todo to use something like this is onceagain create a loop point so we make aselection I'm gonna go right from thebeginning of the one two three four tothe end of the one two three four rightclick on this area and say create loopfrom the section which once againcreates these Loop markers so when wefirst open up the loop uniformizer tryto say that five times fast you have acouple of check boxes one is for slicemixing and one is for the chorussmoothing so let's do them one at a timebecause you can't really decipher themwhen you mix them all together if I goto the slice mixing option it's going tomake specific slices on the loop if youlisten very carefully the original onetwo three four will stay in place but itwill overlay a secondary version ofthree four one two over top of it tryingto move it out now this depends on thenumber of slices I'm dialing this allthe way down to the lowest of number twoslices but I'll boost it up shortly andyou'll see the difference again nothinghappens till you hit apply so when I hitapply you can see the Loop's alreadysomewhat smoothed out from the top nowyou're going to hear this[Music]let's boost this up to about fourdifferent slices let's hear what it doesfrom the topall she wantsfor only oneif only one so every time it overlayswith more and more slices the originalone two three four is still buried inthere but various cuts and slices of theone two three four is going up on top ofit increasing the texture as it goestrollsy out of this this boosts this allthe way up to 10. hit applylet's listen to what that didwhich now makes the texture fairly levelwith the three four three four one twogoing all the way through it wheresomething like this I think would reallybe the ticket is you know when peoplemake their fireplaces or windstorms orother sound effects where they havethese textures that they wanted to beseamless and play over and over forquite a while but it's very hard to Loopthe crack of a fireplace or you knowwind and that kind of thing wheresomething like this would be just aticket to kind of overlay that now letme control Z out of this I'm going touncheck this slice mixing and go over tothe one that says chorus smoothing checkthat the Timber and the chorusing againyou have to experiment but we're justgoing to leave it at the chorussmoothing for a minute and listen towhat effect this has from the topforeignit's pretty much a complete blur of allthe texturesif I take these other options as we gotowards the bottom you have one thatsays enhance the warmth which if youlisten to it it basically just bringsout more of the low end and then if I dothe stereo expansion of course you getmore of a stereo spread so let's redothatand now you get this kind of effect[Music]if you had headphones on you'd reallyhear a difference on that now if we goover to this pre-cross fade option andturn this on with the little check boxas usual if I apply this it will doabsolutely nothing because this oneneeds to have areas outside of the loopmarkers to have any effect so let'sactually do that I'm going to change myLoop marker I'm going to move my firstLoop marker to the two area and mysecond Loop marker to where it begins atfour so now I have one and then two andthree inside the loop marker and fouroutside the loop marker and I'm justgoing to leave these defaults for aminute hit applyand let's hear what it did to this oneso it's very hard to hear initially atthat quickness what it did is it tookthe number three over here and startedto spread it over the number one here inthe beginning so what it's trying to dois give an initial smoothness in thebeginning of the loop let me control Zout of this I'm going to bump this shapeup all the way which will turn thevolume of the smooth shape over and I'mgoing to turn the length up all the wayto 100 as well now if you listen verycarefully what it's going to do now isit's going to take this number threetowards the end of the loop and smear itover the number one at the beginning ofthe loop here's what we haveoneso that's affecting only this beginningpart hereI have to admit if I go back to thisfirst tab turn the course smoothing onthe enhanced warmth and the stereoexpansion I think I've actually come upwith an effect that I can use somewhere[Music]that's a very ethereal background sound[Music]now back to our flute for a minute nowthat we've done all this work wherewe've created Loop points and set ourvarious cross Fades and made the bestsample possible the last step is we wantto make sure that we've assigned thesample attributes so if we go up to thetool windows and come down there's anoption that says sample attributes whichgives you all the various things of thekey and the D2 and in the high key rangeand the velocity range and all thesethings and there's an option here thatsays detect from the audio selectionso assuming you have an audio selectionmade between your Loop Point click onthis area and it will make an analysisand put in the pitch for you and anydetuning and anything it sees in thissample and you can make Corrections ifyou need to on anything but at thatpoint you just go to your audio file andCtrl s to save it and now that file hasbeen saved and can be opened up into asampler and assuming your sampler hasthe ability to read the sampleattributes it will see all that and thenyou'll be able to take advantage ofthose attributes and use this in thesamplerand that wraps it up for today as usualif you haven't grabbed your navigationguide be sure to grab that before you gohas links to all the content on thischannel ever growing free to useif you haven't started
