today we talk about

Groove Agent SE V1 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiommanual.com today we are going to beginan exciting new series looking at thegroove agent SE in Cubase but before westart I want to remind you that there'sa link below to the content navigationguide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there if you'reworking with programs like wave laab orqbas plugins or the cable gu shaper boxand many many other projects that are inthe works then I know you're going tofind just like I have that this is aninvaluable study Aid and the other thingI want to make sure you understand isthat this is not a simple PDF this is aconstantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you okay solet's get started so we're going tostart off kind of finding our way aroundhere opening the program up andnavigating around a few things go overin the project area right click there'san option that says add an instrumenttrack take that guy in your list ofinstruments click on that and thennavigate to wherever you see it towherever it says Groove agent SE clickon that audio outputs can be anythingstereo output whatever you havewe're not going to bother putting a namein here just add the track and now it'screated a Groove agent SE track let'sopen this one up there's a little threeline thing here that says edit theinstrument click on that and there weare we are now looking at a Groove agentSE and ready to begin so as we move downwe have like this kind of like toolbarin this case they call it the functionsection moving down you have What'scalled the kit slot area you'll usuallybe loading kits into this area on theright they have the kit rack you'll seethe kits that you load over in this areayou have this edit display area this iswhere you'll see a lot of the details ofwhatever you're doing and there's threetabs here edit mixer and options thatwhen you click on these they give youdifferent screens to the right over herethere's a little keyboard sign when youhit that it gives you the full keyboarddown here where you can actually hitthings on the keyboard next to thatthere's a file open Panel brings up thisdisplay which allows you to browsethrough the different fileand then over on the left you have allthese pads that will trigger thedifferent sounds as we go through thisif you're familiar with Groove agent youknow you will you'll know that it hasdifferent kinds of kits acoustic kits athing called a beat agent and you willsee as we go through these we're goingto go into detail on all that stuff butyou're going to notice that each onekind of has its own way to approachingthe drums for example when you put likethe acoustic kit in there which is likea regular drum set you know you'll seethat but when we go to the bead agentyou'll see it's kind of like a littlebeatbox machine each one kind of has itsown approach to how it puts drum soundstogether and all these things kind ofare put together in what they call kitsthat has patterns and sounds all thosethings together so we'll be goingthrough all those another thing you'regoing to see as we go along there'svarious ways to load stuff into thegroove agent and some are definitelymore inclusive than others some kind oflike carry the whole thing all thesounds all the patterns everything andsome are just kind of kits that are moreBare Bones they don't take up as muchspace you definitely are going to wantto know the difference on those becauseuh otherwise you won't be backing upwhat you think you're backing up so wedefinitely are going to be emphasizingthat when I get to it let me just goahead and start by showing you this atthe very very top is an option to loadthese VST presets and these are the mostcomprehensive there a little down arrowhere let me click on thatand it says load preset or save presetI'm going to hit the loadpreset and this opens up a kind of asmall version of the media browser butthese kits as we go through them whenthere's when you save these these arethe ones that will car you know containmost of everything all your soundspatterns and everything so if you reallywant to save everything and back it upyou'll want to be doing it in this VSTpreset option there's a huge amount offactory content in the kit itself andyou are allowed to open that stuff upand alter it and then save it howeveryou want but you can never overwrite itso anything that's in the factory kitsthose are going to be there all the timethere are things that are strictly midipatterns which mean they by default theyhave no sound they're just the patternthemselves and then they have thesethings called Styles which basicallygive you fills and various other thingslike that we don't want to get ahead ofoursel but when we're looking lookingover at this panel that opens up on theside there's actually little tabs uphere and one of them says Styles and ifyou click on that you get a list ofvarious Styles and next to that you havea midi tab that gives you strictly midipatterns so let's go ahead and load akit again go over to this area thatshows these files on the side and if youdon't see that hit this file icon righthere once you've hit this kits tab godown and there's like another tab herewhich shows the content sets when youhit that it kind of shows all thepackaging of the different kits in theselittle various organized kit packagesfor example you have laser beams orproduction grooves or the kit go tolaser beams click on that if you pickany one of these it goes right back tothat file structure that we had but thedifference is now it has opened up thatparticular content set and what we'reseeing is only what's in that set forexample example before we go further ifI go back up to this content set and Iclick something else let's say I go tothekit now I'm seeing only the stuff that'sinvolved in the kit go back to thecontent set select laser beams again andnow I'm seeing everything in the laserbeam set so it keeps everythingorganized so let's go ahead and load akit so we get an idea what's happeningwe'll take this very first one saysambush of tigers I double click on it itdoes a little load over on the left handside and now we have sounds now beforeyou hit any sounds I want to caution youalways pay attention to your volume Iwould say turn your volume over here onthe track make sure you turn your volumeall the way down or very low before youstart hitting sounds and then you canclick a pad and you should hearsound and I'll hear sound as long as I'mholding the pad down and I let go it'llstop if I can hit anotherpad hit another padsome of these up here are individualinstrument kind ofpatterns and you're free you know atthis point you know before we even go onourselves to experiment with some ofthese if you want to just hear some ofthe different sounds click a go overhere on the right click a different setof sounds go ahead and click click anyof thosepads give you some idea of the amount ofcontent that's available in Grooveagent also if you want to look at someof the categories that they've put inplace if you look up here in the rightarea you get these various attributeswhich we will be exploring more but forexample you have one that says uhElectronica a dance and it tells youthere's 16 kits of those or you can hitthe urban hip hop there's three kits ofthose you know and then you canexperiment and go through them variousways of searching and finding whatyou're looking for also over on the leftyou want to notice that there's anoption for pattern and an option forinstrument when you're hitting theinstrument you're going to get thesounds that make up thepatterns tambourine clap whatever whenyou click on theseguys when you go over to pattern thoseinstruments are combined together tomake a pattern and they're playing allthose instruments when you hold apattern down so in another words manyinstruments are being played when I hita patternpad and another thing you're going tofind again as we go along that you canalter these you don't have to stay withexactly like theyare and then save them as your own kitsso there you go we're going to wrap upthis first video with saying what youwant to be able to do so far is actuallycreate a Groove agent track over here onthe left be able to open up theinstrument with the instrument buttonthen be able to go over over into thisright browser area by hitting this filebutton hit the different content kitsthat we have here experiment withwhichever ones you like and then onceyou find things you like or interestedin Just click on them open them up andlisten to the different[Music]sounds and you will be ready to go onall right it's going to wrap it up fortoday as always if you haven't alreadybe sure to grab your copy of the digitalaudio manual content navig guide fromthe link below this video the fasterbetter way to learn and review pick itup look it over all the different topicsthat are gathered there and then youtwoo can get started on your path to are a lot of things to tap into inthis program and everybody could use alittle inspiration on their drum tracksso we'll pick it up next time as alwaysit's great to have you guys here andI'll see you
