Groove Agent SE Getting Started V2 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we moveon to our second video as we continuediscussing getting started with thegroove agent SE in Cubase but before westart I want to remind you that there'sa link below to the content navigationguide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there if you'reworking with programs like wave laab orqbase plugins or the cable gu shaper boxand many many other projects that are inthe works then I know you're going tofind just like I have that this is aninvaluable study Aid and the other thingI want to make sure you understand isthat this is not a simple PDF this is aconstantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you okay solet's get started so if we look atGroove agent if you don't have it openedalready this little folder which theycall the load panel click on that andyou have these various tabs that we'vetalked about the first one being thekits which we started to explore and wealso talked about these Styles and themidi ones let's talk about those alittle more in detail when we hit one ofthese Styles or these midi tabs a littlearea down here in the bottom opens upallowing us to preview these things andyou always want to pay attention to yourvolume options so that you don't hurtyour ears there's a little volume levelhere which you can drag either way Ialways recommend you turn it down quitea bit until you know what level you wantit but for example let's say we're onthe midi tab here I can now click anyone of these tabs or any one of theselittle patterns that start out here andI can hit this playbutton and now it allows me to clickclick through these different midipatterns basically allowing me to hearother variations that are available andthey can be all kinds of them and theycan be uh specific to if we go back upto the category again they can bespecific to the certain packages I'mgoing to stay with the laser beams fornow but when you find one what it'sdoing is it's going to play this patternthrough the existing sounds that you'vealready you know put into your grooveagent whatever that is but they arepatterns different for ones that wereincluded in that preset so if I findsome pattern that's more interesting tome for whatever reason and I like thatnow I can take that pattern I can clickon it and I can drag it to anotherpattern and now that becomes the patternthat gets played on that particular padsame thing with the Styles tab you'llhave various Styles that'll show up hereif for some reason you find one that youlike better than what you have you cantake that and drag it onto a pad andthat becomes the new patternso let's have a look at some of theacoustic kits and what kind of happenswhen you're dealing with those so we goover to this content dropdown and if youlook at these kits there's variousthings in here but there's one thereshould be one in your group that saysthe studio SE if you kind of hover yourmouse over it it says the acoustic agentSE Studio kit click on that and as yousee down here there's a list of kits ifyour list those like mine it says breakme down is the first kit click on thatdouble click it'll load the kit up andnow let's observe just a few thingsfirst of all look up here in this areawhere the pictures of the kit show andyou should see something that looks likea drum set previously we've been lookingat little beat boxes type things nowwe're actually looking at what lookslike a drum set like you'd see onsomebody's stage with a drummer playingon it because that's what this is thisis an actual drum set that someone wouldplay and these are the kind of patternsyou're going to hear let's go ahead andclick a couple patterns I mean clickthis first oneanotherone so now you're getting something thatyou know would be played on an actualdrum set some introductions that's whatthese green thingsareendings and as you look over here in themiddle again we have three tabs up hereone says edit one says the mixer and onesays op and if you got this one thatsays edit selected you're going to seethis drum style Midi player in herewhich again is going to be a littledifferent than what we saw a littlewhile ago with the beat type drumminganother thing I want to call yourattention to before we go too deeptypically these Groove agents by defaultare set to follow your project Tempo sowatch this if I hit this play button uphere I can just click any pattern it'llcontinue to play that patternnow and if if you look on thename of this in the middle here where itsays alternative rock on mine and thenit says 92 that's the tempo It also saysthat over here in the area where weloaded the kit break me down and it says92 now if we go down here to the bottomwhere my transport panel is you can seethat my Tempo is at 130 that's where Ihave mindset and if I turn this down I'mgoing to start spinning it with my mousewheel listen to the drums as I do it[Music]see the drums slow down aswell whatever the tempo in the projectis the drums are going to follow thatlet me go realfast I want you to just understand thatthere's a relevance to the temples thatthese were recorded at and the templethat your Project's at you can removeinformation on pads let's click this padhere and in the corner here and if I hitthe delete key it removes all thatinformation that pad's empty if I hitcontrl Z I can bring it right back I cando the same thing by right clicking onthese pads I have an option that saysselect all the pads if I hit that andthen I hit the delete key I can removethe information from all those pads atone time so let's go to the first paddown here in the lower left and when Ihit it it it circles the pad with thislike yellow border you have this like Isaid edit in the middle here mixeroptions make sure that this edit tab isselected and then going down somewhat inthe middle here and over to the rightthere's a little button that has the padon and off we want to turn that on byhitting that it lights up and thennotice in the middle here there's alittle button that says style and onethat says midi we want to make sure it'son the style that's called the styleplayer and then move on over into themiddle here and there's another dropdown and this is called the select stylepopup menu and here we can just pick abunch of things that are going to bepossible patterns so let's just againlet's just stay simple right now we goup to the very top one the one I have atthe very top says the 80s rock and I'mgoing to double click on him and nownotice on this title it says 80s rock135 so before we had the Temple of 92now it says the Temple of 135 so let'sgo ahead and adjust the tempo 135 againthese things don't totally man in termsof it'll work no matter what the tempois but we want it for now as we'relearning this we want to just see thedifferences it makes now go up into theupper left area here and you have acouple of buttons once this stop oncethis play we're going to hit the playbutton and it begins playing thatpattern so as we move into this styleplayer the first thing we look at herewe have a quantize button and we have aswing button if we move these around weprobably won't feel or see inter hereany really difference cuz these kind ofdepend on certain settings let me showyou a couple settings that will make adifference down to the thing that saysswing click the little down arrow buttonhere and set it to1/8 then go up to your quantize and turnit up all theway and now take your swing and turn itup all the way and listen to whathappens hear that that's what's calledputting swing in to the drumbeat when you're done with any of thesethe swing or the quanti hold yourcontrol button on your keyboard andclick it and it'll reset it to usdefaults go over to the far right herein this little style area and there's alittle box and it says complexity andthis stands for the complexity sliderand basically you can take this littledot click on it and you can just move itanywhere you want in this little box andas you move it you're going to get someresults when you move this complexityslider towards the top of this boxyou're going to hear of the loudest ofthe pattern and as you pull itdown the patterns will getsofter As you move it from left to rightyou'll start hearing different[Music]patterns move into the middle here andyou got this little like circle thingand if you look at this little circlething there's kind of words here one thetop word says main As you move down tothe right you'll see the word fill asyou keep moving around the circle you'llsee ending As you move up you'll seeintro as you look at the fill you'll seenumbers one through eight because it'stelling you there's eight differentfills you can hear here let's just's trytry one I'm going to hit numberone maybe I hit numberfive and then as we move on to where itsays ending there's four number fourdifferent endings let's hit number threeending and then we move up and it saysintro we got four different intros let'shit number two[Music]intro number fourintro and you can just as easily takethis little knob and spin itaround let's say we finally getsomething welike if we go right below the stylethere's a little arrow button and thatstands for converting the style to themidi pattern so right now we've beenable to change all these things on thispattern but it hasn't been written thatyet it's just kind of auditioning sowhen we hit this Arrow let's go aheadand hit the Arrow it's now convertedthat into this midi pattern and it'swritten on this pad when we go back andhit thispad now that pattern is on there andthat's it all right it's going to wrapit up for today as always if you haven'talready be sure to grab your copy of thedigital audio manual content navigationguide from the link below this video thefaster better way to learn and reviewpick it up look it over all thedifferent topics that are gathered thereand then you two can get started on yourpath to a better way to learn this stuffas we continue looking at the grooveagent SC and talking about gettingstarted with it we had a look at theStyles and the midi auditions we workeda little bit with the style player wesaw where the fills and the intros andthe endings are and then we convertedthose into midi patterns and we'll pickthis up next time as we continue tolearn all the different things aboutGroove agent as always it's great
