Docking Windows in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today let's talkabout docking and undocking windows inwavelab but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe free content navigation guide whichis an easy to navigate webpage withlinks to all the content on this channeland besides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so one thing is for sure ifyou watch somebody else using wavelab ordemonstrating wavelab or anyprofessional users you may see onlineone thing you're going to notice iseverybody's wave lab seems to beslightly different everybody seems tofind their own way of using it over timethey have their way of customizing itand in many ways the way you use wavelabkind of becomes your signature but Iwant to share experiences that come fromsomeone that was an absolute beginnerwhen I first got into it and try to shedsome light on some things that justmight not be completely clear whenyou're first working with wavelab oreven if you've been working with it fora while one of the first things Iremember when I first opened wavelab andhad it installed on my system and I waslooking at the screen and I started toexplore I remember feeling like wow thisthing can really be customized I think Iwas experimenting without changing theyou know sizes of the windows draggingthem around various workspaces I wouldchange them and as I investigated andlooked further I saw that the basiclayout in wavelab in general was verycustomizable and it was really up to theuser to decide how they wanted it tolook the problem came when I started tochange things it was not for me veryintuitive on how to reset it that was alittle frightening at first because Ididn't know what was happening or how Iwas going to get back for example justabout every window that you look atlet's go up to some of these meters uphere if you grab a tab and click on itand drag it you can immediately move itinto the screen which is great in termsof you know if you have a separatescreen you can drag it to a separatescreen or you can change the size of itor any number of things you might wantto do with it but again I remember whenI first opened the program and I starteddoing this and I think some of ithappened just by accident I might haveclicked on a tab and dragged it so thenext thing I'm doing is oh I need to putthat back so I tried to move it backwhere it was and guess what it didn't goback where it was I'm like oh okay thenI right clicked on the tab thinkingthere'd be some kind of option toreplace it and I got no option toreplace it it just was the same thingnow here's a deal if you know where toclick on it if you click on a differentspot you will see there's a place toreplace it but see these are things thatmay not be completely intuitive to a newuser the idea that you have differentoptions depending on where you click onthe actual screen so I'm going to stayon that track for a minute that thingsdon't just do exactly what you expectthem to do so in my experiments Iremember I might have grabbed anothertab trying to move it around before youknow it I had like completelyannihilated my wave lab program bymoving everything to places I didn'texpect it to go in a matter where Imoved it I couldn't drag it back and atthat point my experience with mostprograms were oh that's all right if Iclose it down and start it back up againwhich I did I closed it down I startedit back upthinking that as like with most programsit would just reset itself well as youcan see here it didn't reset itself itbrought it right back to the same messof screens all over the place and I hadno clue how to set things back so I'mgoing to skip right to the firstsolution in this kind of a situation forall the users that may not be sure aboutthis and then we're going to get intosome more specifics how you can takecontrol of things on your screen but thefirst thing to understand is that theway things look on your screen is allset up in what's called a layout inwavelab and wavelab has the option tosave and create all kinds of differentlayouts and you may actually want alayout that looks just like this forsome reason but the idea is that nomatter what layout you create or how youmove things around if you go up the verytop of the program where it saysworkspace and click on that one of youroptions as you come down is layout andas you look over on the layout on theright to the sub menu you're going tosee there's a bunch of little defaultpresets or at least I hope there is onyour system there was on mine as well asnow things I've set up for myself butthe first thing you want to see here isthat there's an option that says defaultand if that hasn't been changed or youhaven't changed something that saysdefault when you click on that magicallywavelab goes back to its original stateso that's the first thing to help youunderstand that when you get in troublemaybe you've customized things maybeyou've moved some things you don't knowwhat you've done to it typically you cango back to the option that saysworkspace go to layout come down todefault and everything goes back to theoriginal state so that's your firstthing to kind of understand in terms ofgetting in and out of trouble whenyou're opening up wavelab now the nextthing I want to show you before we gotoo deep there's some things thatthere's a few things I want to show youbut the next thing I want to reallyfocus in on you're going to see a lot oftimes depending on what user you'rewatching and how they demonstrate thingsyou're going to see certain windows incertain places on wavelab and you'regoing to see the users opening thesewindows and saying that they've putthese windows here but it's not againnecessarily intuitive of how thesewindows get to where they're going Ihave to say probably the one of the mostcommon ones I've seen is where thisinspector window goes now for me it'sover here on the right next to themaster section and as long as I've beenusing wavelab that's where it's alwaysbeen for me but I guess it's myunderstanding that earlier on in theearly days of wave lab the inspector wasin a different location so many peoplegot used to it in that original locationlet's mess this up for a minute I'mgoing to grab this inspector window I'mgoing to pull it out of here so here weare the inspector is now floating in themiddle of the screen you're going to seea few users in particular always like tokeep this inspector way up here in thecorner connected in these tabs wellguess what if I grab this and startmoving it up here into these tabs I getnothing that's the thing that kind ofwill throw you off you'll think well Iwant to move it up there like they'vegot it and you'll move it up there andnothing will happen so this brings us tothis next option where you go up to thetop of the title bar of any of thesewindows typically if you click in theright spot you're going to get a few ofthese options once this docked to thelast place again well obviously if Iclick that it's going to go right backover here to the right there's a coupleof other options one says controlWindows this middle one says dock thetab group elsewhere and if I click onthat this is the first time you're goingto see this kind of a thing and againthis is one of those things thatgraphically may seem kind of obvious andyet sometimes you may not get any clueas to what it's really telling you let'slook at some of the obvious choices wehave this thing right here in the middleof the screen if I go in the centerthere's nothing in the center but if Igo to the left right or the topimmediately an area in wavelab turnsblue like you I can't move my mouse butif you look at the top you'll see it'sall blue I go over here on the left lookover there on the left it turns blue andif I go to the bottom it turns blue andthen if I finally go to the right itturns blue go back and hit this on theleft I'm going to hit the left and nowyou can see my inspector has moved overhere on the left of the screen anddocked itself let's move it out of herefor a minute I'm going to click and dragit again I'm going to right click andsay group it elsewhere and here'sanother thing to observe this littlething here with a different Blues is amoving Target if I actually take mymouse up here in the right look what itdid it flew up there in the right rightwith me or if I go over here to the leftit flies over here on the left so beaware that that thing is going to movearound depending on where you're tryingto get to I have these four choices uptop left right you know Etc but if I goup here in the upper left not only do Ihave a top a left the bottom and a rightbut I also have this little centerbutton which I didn't have a second agoand if I hit that center button guesswhat my inspector has now come up intothis top area on a tab just like theseother tool Windows this is what you seeother users using but you may or may nothave been able to figure out how theyactually got it up there in the firstplace so if that's something you want todo that's what you have to do again if Igrab that Tab and I pull it out of hereand I say dock it to a group elsewhereagain I get my little moving Targetwhich I can move it around wherever Iwant let's say I want to go over on thisside again if I pick this left or thebottom or the right let's take thebottom on this hit it and now I have myinspector down here so I hope thatclears that up you can put this thingwherever you want it but there'sdefinitely some tricks to understand andagain the thing that threw me off when Iwas first trying to put it up in theseupper tabs like I saw other people doingfor some reason this Center piece didn'treally make sense to me or didn't catchmy attention I didn't understand it so Iwas getting the feel for the left andthe right and the bottom which I couldyou know see these blue lights happeningbut I didn't understand what the centerwas well the center one is again the onethat gets you up into the tab so ifthat's what you're trying to do you wantto click that center button option onceyou've moved this up into a tab ifthat's what you want you can actuallydrag these tabs around into any orderthat you want as well so that's niceoption as well now I'm going to put itback in its original place if I go overhere if I move it over to the right intothe master section I then have that sameoption of hitting that Center tab whichthen puts back up here in the tab areasso have a go at that now you can startto customize your window depending onwho you're watching what tutorialsyou're picking up on but also be awarethat at any time if you don't know whatyou've done with your layout or you'reconfused by it remember that you cancome up to your workspace come down toyour layouts and typically go back overto your default and everything will gogo back to its normal space all rightit's going to wrap it up for today asalways if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatfrom the link below this video gives youquick easy access to all the contentcategorized constantly updated a betterway to see everything demonstrated inreal time so hopefully you have a littlebit better understanding of the layoutsif you didn't know before and now whenyou see somebody else's wave lab if youlike what they're doing you can matchyours to it and you can return it towhatever you want whenever you need toas well as we continue our journeythrough all the features and functionsin wavelab as always it's great to haveyou guys here and I'll see you on thenext video
