Batch Processing V8 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're goingto move on to our eighth video as wecontinue discussing the batch processorin wavelab Pro but before we start Iwant to remind you that there's a linkbelow to the free content navigationguide which is an easy to navigatewebpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there you knowthings like simple steps that will getyou started and up and running quickthings that are in the videos but arewritten down in simple steps that serveas quick reminders when you needinformation down the road if you'reworking with programs like wave lab orCubase plugins or the cable guys shaperbox and many many other projects thatare in the works then I know you'regoing to find just like I have that thisis an invaluable study Aid and the otherthing I want to make sure you understandis that this is not a simple PDF this isa constantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so we keep talking about thebatch processor we're now on the eighthvideo and we've been going through manymany videos of this and of course allthe previous videos are in thenavigation guide in the link below but Iwant to show you a couple things justthat could be frustrating in generalwhen you're working with this a couplethings that aren't clear but are veryuseful when you understand them first ofall let me start out by showing you thiswe didn't talk about it the last time inthe output section we're over here youcan also add comments anytime you knowyou're making a batch process so if youwant to put any special notes in hereand all these things are saved with thebatch processor each processor is likeits own little file so if you make adifferent batch processor you can putdifferent comments but you have thisoption for comments so now I want toshow you something here I'm going toclose this down let's talk about whenyou open up the batch processor whathappens I typically go up to the commandbar there's other ways but this is agood way hit new our next option saysfrom current file now logically youwould think at least I did that meant ifthere was current audio files open thatwould give you those files that's notthe case if I take a file and bring itinto the audio editor area and then I goup to my batch processor option and Isay yeah let's open it up and I say fromcurrent file it's grayed out there's nooption to open it up so what's the dealthis in my opinion would probably beenclear if it said duplicate current badgeprocessor because that's really whatthis is all about again if we come backup here let's close everything out againI'm going to open up one of my batchprocesses that I saved now you can see Ihave files on here and I have someprocesses here if I now come up to thiscommand bar and I say open the batchprocessor I now have an option that saysfrom current file and what happens whenI click on that is it opens up an exactduplicate of what I just had on thebatch processor but that's what thatactually does from current file meansfrom the current batch processor so thebatch processor has to be opened thatfile has to be active and then when youhit from current file you'll get anactual duplicate of that batch processorthis is a good option because if you had50 files all in this area and you wantedto run some different batch processes onthose files it's a great option to nothave to reset all that up so you couldjust open this up from current file andmake your adjustments so that is goodwhat's confusing is just the way it'snamed like I said I probably wouldn'tcall it from current file in my pageopinion I'd call it duplicate the badgeprocessor but hey there it is now thenext option the templates and as you cansee over here I have some templates butfor some reason in my current wave lab11 that I have here I had no templatesbut in my wave lab from past wavelab 10I had all kinds of templates so for somereason I got no templates when I openedup my new wave lab or they didn'ttransfer over let's take a second andlet me show you where these templatesare actually at if I hit the explorebutton up here I have an option forexplore which again may or may not evenbe available if you have no templatesbut let me show you where these are andthen you'll know so I hit explore andthis opens up a file where I have allkinds of templates where is this this isin my users with my name app dataroaming Steinberg wavelab Pro presetstemplates and then batch so if I backedout of this for example if I hit theSteinberg option here I have like awavelab 11 I have a wavelab 10 I evenhave an old wave lab 9 in here so any ofthese that I wanted to bring in thosetemplates if I double clicked on it sayfor example this wavelab Pro then Iwould have to find this preset folder goto that then I gotta look down to I findtemplates and then I have to find batchwhich is right here and here's my oldtemplates which I grabbed these andcopied them and brought them by a newarea so it may be worth your while tokind of locate where some of thesefolders are especially where is thisSteinberg folder on your computer underthe app data roaming Steinberg and it'sworth exploring that in general becausethere's a lot of stuff that Steinbergkind of puts in there and you may noteven know it's in that area and that'swhere a lot of stuff gets stored ingeneral I would point you to taking asecond to kind of figuring where that ison your computer and learning a littlebit about it but if you have somepresets on here or some templates thenyou can use these in your batchprocessor now if you don't I want tocall your attention to this one that Ido have and it's worthwhile to learnthis one because it's a really good oneand it's called the r128 loudnessnormalizer to 4 44 1 Hertz so I'm goingto open this up and right now it has nofiles to be processed but let's look atwhat's in this chain here first of allit has the loudness normalizer we spenta lot of time talking about this in thelast video but you can see right hereit's set to negative 23 all the othervarious options that are set here thisthen goes into this resampler plug-inwhich allows everything to be convertedto 44.1 it then goes to a brick walllimiter which is set at negative one andthen finally goes to this dither pluginwhich again is just some basic settingson the dither plugin but this is a greatexample of really some of the advantagesof the batch processor let me bring myfiles back into this and bring thesethree sample files in here so if I runthis batch processor it is going tonormalize all my files to negative 23it's going to resample them and makesure they're at 44.1 if there's anyclipping it'll limit it and ultimatelyit's going to run them through thedither let's have a little fun here andadd one more plug-in to this mix I'mgoing to go up to my monopass that we'vetalked about I'm going to take my audioanalyzer and add that in there open itupand I'm basically going to cleareverything out of here uncheck all theseoptionsI'm going to uncheck all of these on theleft hand side here I'm going to leaveon the right the one that says merge theresults into a global report and onethat says open it up to HTML now I'mgoing to go back and I'm going to checkintegrated loudness and my short termmaximum loudness I only want those twobits of information I'm going to sayokay I'm gonna go ahead and run this onthese files so it ran all those filessuccessfully I got a great report thattells me everything's exactly atnegative 23. it shows me what my maximumshort-term loudness is just a great setof options that way again I can you knowpreview these files if I want with mydefault application but now let me tellyou one of the great things about havinga setup like this let's say you havefive of your songs and maybe you takefive reference tracks you know ofwhatever style you're into doesn'treally matter you just make your ownlittle playlist here and you shufflethem in the order that you want you knowget them all set up that way then cometo this loudness normalizer and insteadof having it at you know negative 23spin the thing up to negative 14. so youcan hear exactly what it's going tosound like when it's played on Spotifyor a YouTube or any of the otherstreaming whatever streaming service youwant to listen to it on and you hit okaynow let it run the process and levelmatch all your songs all your owncompositions and all your referencetracks all shuffled here nice and neatI'm going to hit it again once it's doneit will give you a printout tells youwhat everything is that that'sintegrated loudness and it's maximumloudness at this point it saideverything is perfectly pretty much at14 but now I can actually come over hereand right click and play this in mydefault application and I'm going tohave a great little reference playlistof my songs and my reference tracks alllevel match that I can listen to andhear you know how do they balance out isthe bass too loud on one and you knowwhat's the clarity like anything likethat it's a perfect way to like set yourstuff up and just hear how your songsmatch to your reference material if youwant to take this a step further dosomething really fun with it let's addone more plugin in here go to my plushereand I think this plugin this is theresizer and the monopass plugins movethat up to the very top of the list openit up so this reads in milliseconds soanything you adjust you got to basicallyadd three zeros to it what I mean bythat is for example let's say I want 10seconds of material I put in a 10 withthree zeros after it so let's go aheadand do that I'm going to click on thisput that in there 10 and then threezerosoh it's ten thousand hit okaynow again I've only got three songs herebut I could have 20 songs in here as aplaylist all kinds of material that Iwanted you know different references andmy own songs and that kind of thing nowI've said it to only give me 10 secondscould be 30 seconds whatever I want whatthis is going to give me is all of thesesongs are gonna now be leveled off at14. everything is going to be volumematched I'm going to get just smalllittle demonstration versions of itlet's go ahead and do it I'm gonna hitstart I get a printout again telling mewhat all the volume levels are what theloudnesses are you don't have to havethat if you don't want it but I reallylike this option and now I can play thisin my default applicationand I'm only going to get 10 seconds ofevery little songand this gives me the perfect chance tobe able to kind of amb my songs againstwhatever references I have I can justtake you know first impressions how doesone impress me over the other whataffects me over the other you can't getthis kind of education really prettymuch any other way I mean this thing isgoing to give you so much perspective onyour material and how it matches up it'simmediate you know the minute you finishyour songs you can put them in withthese references make these lists just Igotta tell you this is a great learningtool and I just wanted to share it withyou now again you may not want thedither in here you can just uncheck thatif you want maybe you don't want toresample your mastered songs you canuncheck that that's the thing you cancheck or uncheck whatever processes youwant I find if you're doing a moderatelevel like 14 it makes no big dealwhether you leave these processes in ornot but again you can experiment take aminute or out you want to make it louderyou know spend your loudness up towhatever you want then one more thingyou can do I was experimenting with thisthere's another plug-in here in themonopass plug-in is the trimmer I'vealready got that in here what thetrimmer allows you to do unlike theresizer which makes it one size thetrimmer you can take things off thebeginning and you can take things offthe end for example let's say you know Idon't want just 10 seconds of materialmaybe I want 20 seconds worth ofmaterial and maybe I don't want it tostart until 30 seconds into the song orI can make you know various lists I canhave one that has right with theintroductions so I can move my head partright down to zero or then I want tohear 30 seconds into my song so I canspin this up to 30 seconds really youcan do so many things in terms of howyou want but if you do it this way whatI have here I've got it set so itdoesn't even start doing anything until20 seconds into the song so now whatit's going to do with this reset withthis trimmer and this resizer it's goingto give me 20 seconds into the song soI'll basically skip the introductionsI'll be able to hear into the verse ofall these songs then it's going to cutit down with the resizer to just 10seconds for the material then the restis going to set the levels and thewhatever I want here but at the end ofthis I'm gonna have a playlist that'sgoing to give me 10 seconds 20 secondsinto the songs and it's going to compareall these songs my material all myreference material it just goes on andon and on so experiment with this stuffhave some fun to give yourself a littleAwareness on how you can create theselists and immediately hear where yoursongs and other songs compare togetherand enjoy some of the power that wavelabgives you all right it's going to wrapit up for today and as always if youhaven't grabbed your navigation guide besure to grab that from the link below itgives you access to all the content onthis channel ever growing and free touse all the content is in ordercategorized constantly being updated sowe started out the video with wrappingup from previously about the commentssection and then we tried to clarifywhat really happens when you go to thatopen current file that is really justduplicating the batch processor and thenwe talked about where the templates areand I recommended that you learn wherethat Steinberg folder is on yourcomputer there's probably a lot ofthings to explore you may not even knoware there then we ran that template thathas all those great options fornormalizing and trimming your audioallowing you to make a playlist givingyou a chance to reference your materialand hear it all in short brief previewsections lots and lots of great stuff toplay with still more to go on the batchprocessor we will continue when weresume this as always it's great to haveyou guys here and I'll see you on thenext video
