Apr 26, 2023Batch Processing V6 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our sixth video as we continuediscussing the batch processor inwavelab Pro but before we start I wantto remind you that there's a link belowto the free content navigation guidewhich is an easy to navigate webpagewith links to all the content on thischannel and besides that in the nearfuture I'm going to begin adding tipsand other bits of information that willonly be available there you know thingslike simple steps that will get youstarted and up and running quick thingsthat are in the videos but are writtendown in simple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we've been discussing thebadge processor for quite a few videosnow and those videos and all videos forthis channel are always in thenavigation guide in the link below butin the last video if we go over here toour effects adding area we dug throughmost of all these effects in this areacalled the monopass plugins let's have alook now at some of these multi-passplugins and multi-pass means exactlythat what's happening with these pluginsis that as the badge passenger goesthrough them sometimes it may have to gothrough them more than once to get theresult it needs for example it may haveto go through and do some kind ofanalysis then it may have to go backthrough it and actually apply theprocess it all happens in real time soit doesn't really affect anything thatyou'll experience too much but you justwant to be aware that that's what it'sdoing it's going through it more thanone time so first up let's go ahead anddo this one that says the levelnormalizer before I do that I'm going toremove all my previous processes let'sbring some other audio files back inhere hit this plus and then go to thelevel normalizer now if we double clickto open this up we get this dialog nowthis plugin is set to work on Peakvalues for example we're not workingwith loudness on this particular plug-inso if you set something at negative 3 upon this peak level here this is the kindof thing you would actually see on youroutput meter of a negative three do youhave the option to go on either thedigital Peaks or the true Peaks digitalPeaks being what you would actually seeon the meter true Peaks being the innersample Peaks that you may not see on themeter but for example let's go ahead anddial in we want everything at negativethree you can also set up presets andsave presets with this option which isgreat but we'll leave it at that hitokay come up and hit our run process andyou will notice it does take a littlelonger to run through those multi-passplugins now we can take any one of thesefiles just right click on it go to theedit option in which opens it up in ouraudio editor and then if I play it and Ilook over at my meter I can see that thelevels are hovering right aroundnegative three they do fluctuate up ordown a little bit there's no exactscience in terms of nailing everythingright at negative three and it puts itin the ballpark so you can see it therea great way to just set initial levelson your files if you need to all rightlet's check this one out hit our littleplus button and we have in our list theloudness normalizer double click thatdouble click this to open up this dialogand here's this guy so first up weactually get to set the loudness that wewant to achieve here right now this oneopened up at a default of negative 23but you can spin this with your mousewheel to whatever you want from negative14 to negative 6 to anything in betweenwhatever you want it only goes tonegative three at the maximum so thereyou go if you want to set your song atnegative three I had someone comment onetime that this was his way of masteringjust said his loudness the way he wantedand his song was mastered to each eachhis own that's all I can tell you onthat one moving on you have an analysisreference area do you want to work onthe whole file do you want to work onthe top of the loudness range or theshort term loudness you pick thosechoices next to that you have the optionto go with either the true Peaks or thedigital Peaks one of the things I reallylike about this plugin it has a hugeselection of presets if you come down tothe preset area you have all kinds ofthings from Amazon Apple YouTube SpotifyNetflix I highly recommend anybody thatwants to understand this to go throughthese presets and look at the varioussettings so the next option here saysthe peak limiter using the plug-in Peakmaster and the bottom line is here itappears there's always going to be alimiter on this there's no way toactually turn limiting off you can setthe peak levelwhich can be set at zero or whatever youwant negative one or whatever you thinkis best or negative point three orwhatever whatever the latest referenceis that everybody's talking about thesedays but no matter what this limiterstays in effect so there's always goingto be a limiter going when you're usingthis plug-in even if it's only at zeronow this next option that says softnessand the manual says that the higher thenumber on this the more the perceivedloudness I can tell you from myexperiments that does seem to make adifference in terms of how the wave isactually rendered off the numbers can bedialed all the way down to negative fiveand then back up to five by default youcan just leave it at zero I find thatwhen you spin it down to the negativefive and then you analyze your waveyou're going to see more of that sausagekind of wave effect and the more youspin it up towards five the more you'regoing to see Peaks and valleys in yourwave what sounds best well you just haveto experiment that's all I can say butthere's no denying how fun this thing isjust to run a bunch of tests and hearthe difference I can spin it at one timeto ten another time I can spin it allthe way down to negative six if I wantto hear the difference or any variationor anything I want to hear and thenagain I can set it where I want it to bethe integrated loudness or the top ofthe loudness or the short term loudnessthen another fun thing to do with thisis to go back and add our monopassplug-in of the audio analyzer which wetalked about in the last video but withthat in place we can have our loudnessnormalizer and our audio analyzer andrun the processes like thisand again I have three different songsgoing on here so just like this I get aprintout showing all the statistics onthese different files what theintegrated loudness is on each one withthe short-term loudnesses it's just agreat option to have and then of courseI can preview them by right clicking andsay open in the default application andthen I can just listen to each file seehow it balances out loudness wise it's agreat set of optionsall right so for the last part of thisplugin you have these options one saystolerance right now on the setting Ihave it's a 0.2 DB this is basicallytelling you how close to your targetyou're going to get for example up inthe loudness it says negative 23 if Idon't have this right at zero this couldbe negative 23.5 or negative 23.1 orsome kind of variation and the more youspend this tolerance down to zero themore this plugin is going to try to getright on negative 23. now the problem isthere's no guarantee you can actuallyhit whatever your target is depending onthe Dynamics of your Target and allkinds of you know various things in theaudio itself it's going to attempt to dothat but if you hit this tolerance rightat zero sometimes you'll actually get awarning back that says invalid or unableto hit the target so for me some littlevariation down here works pretty goodthat's what your choices are either dialit in a zero if you want it exact orsome variation beyond that to give it alittle more breathing room after that itsays the number of passes and thisplugin actually scans a number of timesto kind of reach its result so you canset how many times it's going to do thatto give it more accuracy the final onesays the authorized P compression so beaware this does add compression intoyour file right now this is way down tonegative 12 for this particular settingthat I have but you can set thisanywhere from zero to negative three ornegative one or whatever you want foryour compression levels but once you'vedecided on everything you hit OK Goahead and hit the start button then youcan do a number of things you can eitherpreview the processing or open it allthe application which I always like todo and then you can hear your resultsyou can also go back and right click onany of these and hit edit then you cansee your file right in the audio editorand what effect the processing had on itso these last few in this list heredon't require a lot of explanation let'slook at them real quick first of alllet's look at this one that says pannormalizer basically just a great littleplug-in in case you think your files maybe offset one side or the other thiswill balance them out either by theloudness or by the peak value you have acouple of presets already in here forequal loudness or equal Peaks so that'sa good one to run through your files ifyou need it you have one for stereo tomono in case you have a bunch of filesthat are recorded in Stereo and you wantto convert them all to Mono anothersymbol but good efficient plug-in youhave one called the DC remover it takesaway the DC offset in your audio filesthis one doesn't open up or have anysettings to it it's also recommendedthat if you're going to use this put itright at the front of the chain that wayyou can remove any DC Offset you have onyour files for any other processing isdone and you'll get a little bit moreefficient result and then the last oneto look at the fade out again you canpick whatever kind of fade curve youwant to use how long the fade is andwhat it fade outs to hit that okay andAway you go so all in all just anothergreat set of two tools to process youraudio the way you need it all right it'sgoing to wrap it up for today as usualif you haven't grabbed your navigationguide be sure to grab that before you gohas links to all the content on thechannel ever growing and free to useconsider it your new easier way to tryto figure out
