Batch Processing V3 in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our third video as we discuss thebatch processor and wavelab pro butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos are changereally anything updated and once youhave it you will always have the latestinformation constantly updated so if youhaven't gotten it already go to the linkbelow click on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so we move on to the third videoin our discussion of the batch processorprevious videos and all videos for thischannel are always in the navigationguide in the link below but as we'removing along our discussion right nowwe're down in this file selection areaand we've been talking about how to addfiles in here and some of the optionsyou have in context menus and that kindof thing for example if I bring thesefiles up from my browser I can justbring them right in but I'm going toremove all these files temporarily and Iwant to call your attention to thislittle area right above where the filesare and it says folder and in this areayou can actually hit this folder andjust get all kinds of options fromrecent folders you've been working in oryou can select folders typical revealand file explorer but let's take one I'mgoing to pick this first folder righthere and right now I'm not seeinganything because many times you have tohit this little refresh button and onceI hit the refresh button then it willbring all the files from the folder intoview you have an option to check if youwant to include the subfolders or notthen you have this long list if you wantto make specific file type selectionsright now I just have it on all audiofiles but personally one thing I findabout the badge processor that is justreally a great tool all the way aroundand it kind of even goes beyond thebatch processing option and that's theidea that this thing allows us to do alot of organization I mean the fact thatyou can pick folders specific foldersand then see what's in your audio inthose folders I mean there's so manytimes you're trying to scan through thehard drives and look for various thingsand you see all these folders and fileson your folders this is such a quick andeasy way to scan through favorite thingsthat you're looking for or things you'reusing all the time and see what filesyou have in there maybe you want toclean them up or do things reorganizethem and then as we said last timebecause you can right click on any oneof these filesand bring up what's called the defaultplayer which allows you to open up youknow whatever you have on your system toplay wav files or you know music filesand just like that I can preview thefilesthe batch processor again is just agreat organizing tool on its own andsomething to consider for that job justas much another thing to just quicklynotice you have an option down here thatsays accept the Dual mono files as ifyou have those kind of files you canselect it or not and now we move intothe options in this output Tab and thefirst thing you want to observe here isyou have this drop down list which givesyou all the options for outputs if youlook at your files if you have somefiles in the window here it's a categorythat says output here if you go throughthese and just hold your mouse and spinthem you can quickly go and auditionthrough all these different output youknow options here and you will notice asyou spin these and change them thatthese folders up here also Spin andchange because it's giving you choicesas to all the different possible foldersyou can send these files to now thesehave some specific rules depending onwhich ones you pick for example if I goto the very first one on the bunch itsays temporary but can be undone youcan't even really do this one unless thefiles are opened up in the audio editorfirst so to do this I'm going to removeall these files and instead of bringthem into the batch processor I'll dragthem down just to the area above whichwill open them up as separate tabs thenwhen I go back to the batch processor Ican right click go down to insert audiofiles and I can pick all the files outof my file group so I'll just say selectall and that brings them in from theaudio editor right into this batchprocessor now with this set to Temporaryit says temporary up here as well if Igo ahead and hit run I have my solidgreen dots it's gone through allprocesses and every file has now beenchanged temporarily this this newprocessed file and if I begin savingthese I'll be overwriting my file so I'mnot going to do that but these now havebeen changed and there's a littleasterisk to show that they haven't beensaved yetall right so then we go to our nextoption here and it says add the sourcepath do not use this option I say thatjokingly but I really do tell you thisoption is designed to completelyoverwrite your existing files so if yourun this and do some kind of processingto these files there's no recourse toundo it or you know come out of it orreset the files this is a permanentalteration to your original files so ofall these choices that you have here theone that says add Source path if I canput a little skull and crossbones by itthat's what I would do to tell you don'tuse this option just be aware that it'sa permanent alteration to your files allright so the next output option we havehere it says subfolder of the sourcepath this one is less dangerous goodoption it puts all your rendered filesinto a separate folder of the sourcepath and again you always get a visualhere because it shows you what the fileis but over here it shows you what theoutput is which is exactly the samefolder but here it shows slash outputnow if you know what you're going to bedoing you want to change that output youcan actually call it something else downhere for example if these are allleveled you could put leveled here as anoutput whatever you want the basicdisadvantage of this option is if you'repulling in files from many differentfolders which you can do when you'redoing a batch process I mean you couldprocess files from you know drive a anddrive B and all these kind of things butthen when you do this where you do asubfolder of the source file then yourrendered files all wind up in thosebasic you know drives so then you got togo to drive a and drive B to find youroutput files personally I would say thisoption is great if you already have allyour files in one folder and you knowexactly what you're going to do to themand you know where they're going to gothen the fact that this automaticallycreates this subfolder of that is agreat way to process and then organizeyour files so that's the subfolder ofthe source path if we go to this nextoption it says subfolder output inSource path so what's the differencethey're almost the same aren't they wellhere's the difference when you stay atsubfolder of source path you still havethe option to actually type in whateveryou want that folder to be right now itsays output so it seems like it's thesame but I could change it to anything Iwant the minute I switch the one thatsays subfolder output in Source path theoption to change it becomes grayed outand you can't change it any longer sonow it's called output for that finalpath folder it kind of locks you into itbeing output so these are kind of twovariations on the same thingagain understanding that one gives youthe option to still name the folder thesecond one defines the output in thesource folder again these are both goodrecommendations good safe options thedifference is again if you're comingfrom multiple different sources in thefirst place this may or may not be thebest option whereas if you're workingwith one folder these are great optionsall right moving on so down the list thenext option says explicit path at thispoint it lights up the field below whereyou can pick the folder you want to moveeverything to could be something youcommonly use or it could be somethingyou need to create brand new but as I'vesaid this batch processor besides theability to process your files because itgives you the ability to just movethings around and organize the stuffagain we could be processing all thesefiles at a different level or all thethings you can do as a batch process butanother great option is just getting allyour stuff where you want it for exampleI might have four different folders onmy computer all labeled referencereference one reference two things I'veaccumulated you know know over a periodof time and they have you know onefolder may have 10 references in itanother one you know you get the ideabut because it also can sort and youknow move things I mean to do it inWindows you know you have to open upthree different Windows explorers andyou got to click and drag to try to findyour folders on the different harddrives and that kind of thing with thebadge processor I can bring these filesin from wherever they are you know onhard drive B and hard drive C andwherever they are or different folderson each hard drive and I can createthese long lists of all these differentfiles and I can go over into the plug-inarea and basically right click here andsay remove everything I don't want to doany processes at all just leave this Ablank screen and then go down to myoption for the explicit path and at thatpoint I can choose a new destination anew folder you know some place I've justcreated with no information in itwhatsoever right now I just created afolder called C temp my new temp filesand if I go up here and hit run all orrun either one it does the typical batchprocess all the little lights go greenand guess what it has now taken all myfiles in this case there's only threebut it could be 300 of them taking allthese files from their Source locationscould be on different hard drivesdifferent folders and then has movedthem all into this new folder that Ijust chose here and again because of thegreat option to be able to right clickon any folder or file and say reveal inFile Explorerwhich then opens up a window where I cansee my files I now have my files samefiles haven't been changed but they'vebeen organized into a brand new folderin so many ways this this option alonewithout even bothering to process thefiles which again is a great option initself the idea that you can you knowbring things in from different foldersand different files and combine them andthen with one click you can move thembesides that you can save this as abatch process to do it anytime later thesame thing and as you're going to seeshortly in in some of the coming upvideos can actually create differentkind of watch folders that when we putfiles in them the batch processor willautomatically do these tasks just byputting these files in here again just asuper powerful you know piece ofequipment here with a little imaginationyou can find yourself doing so manythings all it takes is understanding itright all right it's going to wrap it upfor today as usual if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that before you go has links to allthe content on the channel ever growingand free to use topics are in our ordercategorized updated all the time givesyou quick easy access to answers whenyou go searching for stuff you need toknow about these programs that we'reworking on so we continue our road onthe badge processor we started out todaylooking at the folder area above thefiles just take a look at the Dual monooption and then we started digging intoall the different output choices thetemporary that can be undone and has asource path and a subfolder of thesource path and a subfolder output inthe source path and we finished uplooking at the explicit path and alsodiscussed how not only can we processthings in the batch processor but we canuse it to organize things which in manyways you might find to be one of themost powerful features of the wholething and we will continue until wecover all the information available onthis subject helping us all becomebetter at using the tools we have asalways it's great to have you guys hereand I'll see you on the next video
