Batch Conversion in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today let's talkabout batch conversion in wavelab Probut before we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate web page with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything update dated andonce you have it you will always havethe latest information constantlyupdated so if you haven't gotten italready go to the link below click on itand save it to your favorites it's mygift to you and it's absolutely freeOkay so let's get started so we've beentalking about the batch processor formany videos now and of course all theprevious videos are the navigation guideand the link below but in the family youcould say of options for the batchprocessor there's this thing called thebatch conversion and it's just a smallbasic little application that actssimilar to what we've been talking aboutbut it's kind of very specific in termsof like if you want to just convert yourfiles real quick say for example youhave a bunch of 24-bit files and youwant to just burn up a bunch of MP3files real quick this badge conversionis the tool you want to use you can alsouse it to go in the other direction ifyou got a bunch of low res files and youwant to bump them up to 24 I'm notrecommending you do that but it'savailable just another tool in yourtoolbox so where do we find this thingso the first thing we want to do is goup to the top to our our file tab as wecome down the file tab we have an optionfor tools and if we look in the sub menufor that at the very bottom we have onecalled batch conversion so if we clickon that now we get a separate window andat this point it's really just as easyas picking your files and you have acouple ways you can do it the obviousway is at the top you can hit the plusbutton if you have things set in yourrecent files you can grab those you canbring in a text file we've talked aboutthat in previous videos you can go downto the bottom and browse which alsogives you the option to open this fileselector which again opens up a file inyour computer and you can just pickfiles that way but another way to dothings and I do this many many times isI go up into my file browser area and Ipick out whatever files I have organizedup here make a selection or multipleselections whatever I want and then Ican just click and drag these into thiswindow now you can change the size ofthis window if you want to see moreinformation just stretch it out in manyways and it starts to resemble theactual batch processor window and thenyou just have some basic simpledecisions to make where do you want toput all these files so you go down hereyou have an option for folder you wouldchoose the folder you want your usualoptions you can set the destinationfolder if there's a folder in here youcan say reveal it in the file explorerand that opens up an area where you canpick your location or if you have any ofyour previous typical folders they'reall available right here let's go downand put this in the C temp probably notthe best folder but that's a good choicefor now for this experiment and now wecome to the point where we want to pickwhat do we want to convert these filesto whatever these files are I have uphere so I want to make a choice here soI pick my list and this is the firstthing that will kind of throw you off itthrew me off a little bit it's kind ofthe way wavelab works in general becauseit shows you this kind of hierarchywhich right now looks very scaled downwhen I was a brand new user and I openedup a window like this and I saw thesewere my options for conversion I saw anedit button I moved past that I see myfactory presets and in my factorypresets I had maybe a few here that Ikind of could choose from may or may notbe what I'm looking for I looked up atthe encoded option I had a few choicesthere which may or may not be what I waslooking for and some other choices downhere and I also have these choices downhere that look like favorites so howdoes all this work and how do youmaximize this and get to the choicesthat you want so you have two roads tokind of pursue here you either find whatyou're looking for in this kind ofreduced list and actually this listgrows over time the more you use it andbring in different files the more thesefiles kind of populate with more filesbut in the beginning there may be threefiles and that's all you see down herebut if you start out by looking at thisedit button so you click on the editbutton and this is where basically thelibrary of formats is and when you startoff looking at the type you have a dropdown list there and this just haseverything you would be hard-pressed tonot find what you're looking for in herebetween the mp3s and the waves and justevery kind of file you can imagine nowthe thing is once you pick a file out ofhere let's go to the MP3 it doesn't stopthere because now you get another hugekind of sub list of whatever isavailable in that style so with our MP3swhen we come down here and we look atthe encoding option right now mine says128 maybe I don't want a 128. if I clickon this list which again seems kind ofuh sparse in his choices but we go tothe edit option and here's whereeverything is hidden when we come downto the format area and hit the drop downlist now we have all the choices of allthe different kinds of MP3 files youcould probably want to use from thesmallest of eight bits all the way up to320 whatever you want so you would makeyour choice look up to 320 say okay sayokay to that and then hit start they'vedone some processing on every file andthen again the easy way to find yourfiles will go back to your folder hereis click on it just hit reveal in fileexplorer and then you don't have to gosearching very far and then here's myfiles right here and I could have evencreated a specific folder for thosebefore I started here to organize thoseeven further so of all those options buteither way that's a quick way to justyou know change the formatting on yourfiles and be done with it now the otherthing that was confusing to me for awhile and it's good to understandwhen we come back to our choices hereand I hit this option for presetsbesides all my factory presets andwhat's in here I notice at the bottom Ihave these right now for me I have threelittle like favorite presets I can'tremember in the beginning when I firstgot wavelab if those were even there buteither way these are things you havecontrol over whether you want these inhere or not or which ones you want inhere so you can get to your formatsquick in other words you could have apreset in here for 24 you could have apreset for 16 you could have a presetfor your mp3 so that you can quicklypick these hit start and you know you'reoff and running quick well how do youget these in here you go back up to youredit option above here once you'vechosen your file format like we just didbefore so stay with the MP3 for now butit could be any of these files beforeyou finish you want to go down to thebottom where you have an option to savepresets and when you click on thatyou'll see a couple of options save asor organize your presets if I hit saveas of course it's going to do whattypically save as does it opens up awindow allows me to give something adifferent name and it saves as and as Ilook up on the screen I can see there'sthree other things up here already andthose were those three favorites that Ihad in the other window so where arethese at let's explore further if Icancel back out of here go back to thisdrop down list again instead of save aslet's go to organize the presets minegives me a little dialogue withinstructions I'm just going to say okayto that but now this opens up the folderwhere these presets are being saved andat this point you could actually clickon some of these and delete them or putthem into different folders anything youwant to do to reorganize them butwhatever changes you make into this areawhen you come back here and click thisthat's what's going to show up in thislittle favorite area down here so if youwant to customize that the way you wantit that's how you do it and reallybesides that that's really all there isto this so when you need a quick easyway to just convert a bunch of fileswhether up down or there any kind ofcustom situation or even if you justwant to test things to see whatdifferent files may sound like thisbadge conversion is your way to go andof course it doesn't ever do anything tothe original files those are thoseremain untouched so you always havethose you know to go back to and thenalso before you wrap this up if you lookdown at your tab options besides youroutput you have these options where youcan check it to say start this when Idrop my files so you could just havethis set up you could just be draggingfiles in here and it would Auto you knowconvert them automatically you haveanother option to say ought to removethe converted file so it would clean upthe window as it goes and then you havethe multitasking tab in case you want tocustomize how your computer works Ialways leave that at whatever default itis I never have a problem with that butbut you can adjust that if you need toand that's the simple operation for thebatch conversion all right so that'sgoing to wrap it up for this video asalways if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatfrom the link before you go gives youaccess to all the content on thischannel ever growing and free to usecontent is organized categorized andupdated all the time click on itdownload it save it to your favoritesmake it your go-to whenever you need tofind some information on these subjectsdon't think I don't use my ownnavigation guide I am constantlyreviewing this information there's noway this stuff is at the front of yourmind all the time and six months fromnow even what we discussed today I canguarantee you I'll be back here lookingat something to remind myself so if ithappens to me it's going to happen toyou save yourself a lot of work and justtake advantage of it so we talked aboutthe batch conversion today you want tomove something from one format toanother this is your tool we figured outwhere to find the thing it's under thefiles and the tools we opened a windowadded files to it saw different ways toadd files we can even drag and drop ifwe want we picked our formats we set ourdestinations figured out how tocustomize our favorites in there andthen we saw the various options on thetabs so if you ever find yourself in asituation where you need to changeformats on some files here's your toolas we continue to explore all thesebadge processing options in wavelab andwe will pick it up next time as alwaysgreat to have you guys here and I'll seeyou on the next video
