today we talk about

Auto Split V2 in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our second video as we continue todiscuss the auto split feature inwavelab but before we start I want toremind you that there's a link below tothe free content navigation guide whichis an easy to navigate webpage withlinks to all the content on this channeland besides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wave lab or Cubase plugins wherethe cable guys shaper Box 2 and manymany other projects that are in theworks then I know you're going to findjust like I have that this is aninvaluable study Aid and the other thingI want to make sure you understand isthat this is not a simple PDF this is aconstantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so in the last video we justbegan looking at these Auto splitfeature and what some of the things itcan do and that video as well as allvideos or in the navigation guide in thelink below but let's look at our nextoption for splitting and what it allowsus to do I'm going to go back to myprocess tab hit my auto split I'll keepit on the active clip option hit my nextand now the next option we have here isto split at specific intervals let'slook at that one I'm going to click onthat hit next so at the very beginningour first choice is we can set how longthese little splits are going to be I'mgoing to hit next I have to tell it whatdo I want it to do create markers orsplit let's put down split except theseother options as they are hitting nextnot going to worry about the names hitfinish and now when I look at the clip Ihave nice even five second splits on allthese clips except for the last one andwe're going to talk about that next sonow if I go to my next button continueon to split the specifics when I reachthis option that we had before where Iset it to five secondsand the last piece was shorter than fiveseconds because it ran out of room theyhave another option here that may or maynot suit what you're trying to do but ifyou turn this on and it says now in thiscase the minimum duration is and you setit for whatever and I'm going to make itthe same as the first one make it fiveseconds so this means the last sectionhas to be at least five seconds long forit to be used what it will do in thiscase if we continue on here make sureeverything is intact yep okay finishwhat it did now is it made even splitsof Five Seconds to all the othersegmentsbut on the last clip because the lastpart of it was shorter than the fivesecond amount it basically just ignoredthat and made the last clip before itlonger and then we have this option I'mgoing to make a selection out of thebeginning here hit my auto splitgo on to the next split at the specificintervals and then instead of hitting atime like we had five seconds we can godown and make the check that says theduration of the current audio selectionso what it's going to do now is it'sgoing to use this selection to determinewhere to split it I'm going to turn offthis minimum last section again hit nextmake sure it's at split next next okayhit finish and then it made nice littleslices exactly the same size as thefirst selection so for example if youmade an exact selection of say 30seconds it would make exact 30 secondssplits after that all right so our nextoption is probably one of the mostuseful options let's hit the auto splitbutton here choose our active clip andnow we're going to this third one thatsays split it at the silences go nextand from the top we have a region is aduration of at least so it's telling youthat whatever it splits here it's got tobe at certain length or it's going toignore it going on to the second one theminimum silence between the regionsbasically is and same thing whatever yousaid here it's got to be at least thismuch or it will ignore it and then ourthird option is the silence is definedas a signal below and it gives youwhatever your RMS value is so myrecommendation is you have an optionbelow here that says the automatic leveldetection with this option I would saystart with that first click that littlecheck box see what it does and what itcomes up with and then go from there ifyou have to refine something many timesthe automatic will do all you need sonow the next options are the audioregions to retain and this is talkingabout the silent parts so the first partsays exclude the silent parts let's goahead and check that and see whathappens moving on to our next option wewant to make markers or split or removethe silent parts we could say remove thesilent Parts but watch what happens if Ileave it where it's at go to next we'renot going to worry about the names hitfinishand it pretty much took out the silentparts and was done with it although ifyou zoom in on any one of these splitsyou'll see there's a tiny amount ofspace so now let's try a different onehit the auto split againtake our active Clips but at thesilences and this time instead of theexclude silent parts let's go to keepsilence before check that one hit finishand now it made nice little slices butit stopped right at where the last clipends and the left silence where the clipbegins controls the out of this let'stake our last option next on the activeclip split up the silences and let's trykeep the silence after hit finish noweach clip is sliced right at thebeginning but it left silence at the endof the clip so this is a very goodoption for splitting these clips savesyou so much work but really most thetime when you go through it the firsttime you may have to experiment withsome of these choices and some of thesenumbers depending on what you see happenwhen it splits it if something's notworking exactly where it is you want toexperiment with these numbers a littlebit and then once you finally lock it inthe way you like it save it as a presetand you'll have it that way all the timeall right so then we have another optionlet's take this drum Loop here hit theauto split active clip now we're goingto go to one that says split at The Beathit next so first up we have the beatdetection sensitivity and this can goanywhere from zero to a hundred I havefound that if you leave it at 100 itmakes the smallest Cuts observe thiswe'll hit next leave it at split hitnext hit finish and that gave us a bunchof little bitty pieces all sliced uppretty much at every beatCtrl Z out of that go back to the autosplitnext next if I bring this 100 at the topsay down to 25 hit finishthe pieces are now biggercontrol Z out of that let's go back andchange another one let's take this backup to 100 againand then let's go down to this bottomarea that says the minimum regionduration and right now this can only gono lower than 100 milliseconds let'sbump that up to one second extra onesecond finish it out and now all thepieces are bigger and there appears thatthey're all at one second so that's whatthat did so obviously these threesettings would take some variousexperimentation to tune in and onexactly what you're trying to do onceagain once you tune it into what you'retrying to do save it as a preset andthen the next time you can just executethat operation with one click all rightso let's go on to this next optionselect the clip hit the auto split staywith the active clip go next and nowwe're going to take this last optionthat says cut the head and the tail hitnext and at the very top you have theoption to cut the head cut the tail orboth that's pretty self-explanatory thenwe have three options in this mode thefirst one is to find and cut the silenceyou have an option to define the silenceif it's something you know specific youneed to put in here you can go anywherefrom negative 10 to negative 140 DByou can just select the automatic leveldetection let's go ahead and pick thatone and see what it does I'm going tocontinue on next as usual you can eithercreate markers you can split it or youcan actually remove the silent partslet's leave remove the silent parts andthen you have a more refined option onthe silence do you want it to be truesilence or maybe it's some kind ofAmbient sound let's leave it at justtrue silence hit next again we'll justignore the names for now hit finish andthere it has cut off the beginning andthe end of the clip this is mostly thething I prefer to use the auto split 4.so if we go through this again and wecome to the part that says how to cutthe edges then you have this option tocut it at a specific time and in this itgives you the option to set the head andthe tail length if you know exactly whatyou want or instead of setting up thetail you can set the length of the wholeclip and then the last option if youhave markers you could set it cut it atthe markers but again this is what Ilike about it it just automaticallyfinds the size islands and cuts it offwhich again saves a lot of work when youfirst bring files into wavelab and thereyou go the auto split great feature inwavelab as usual if you haven't grabbedyour navigation guide be sure to grabthat before you go there's links to allthe content on the channel ever growingfree to use so if you haven't used theauto split you might want to give it atry and if you use it well maybe there'sa few extra things we've talked abouthopefully today but it's definitelyanother Power feature in wavelab tospeed up the workflow as usual it'sgreat when you guys are here I'll seeyou on the next video
