Auto Split V1 in Wavelab Pro
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're goingto begin talking about the auto splitfeature in wavelab but before we start Iwant to remind you that there's a linkbelow to the free content navigationguide which is an easy to navigatewebpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there you knowthings like simple steps that will getyou started and up and running quickthings that are in the videos but arewritten down in simple steps that serveas quick reminders when you needinformation down the road if you'reworking with programs like wavelab orCubase plugins or the cable guys shaperBox 2 and many many other projects thatare in the works then I know you'regoing to find just like I have that thisis an invaluable study Aid and the otherthing I want to make sure you understandis that this is not a simple PDF this isa constantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are 10 change really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you and it'sabsolutely free Okay so let's getstarted so in previous videos I talkedabout how the meta normalizer was myfavorite feature in wavelab well theauto split runs a real close second thistool can make your life so much easierwhen it comes to some of the basic tasksthat you'll do over and over again inwavelab you get to this screen by goingto your process Tab and then there's abutton here that says Auto split youclick on that and that opens up the autosplit dialog box one thing about theauto split is it typically consists ofabout five pages of things I use it forlike trimming the ends of Silence off ofClips sometimes I like to make specificslices at certain intervals it just doesa lot of things really well but whenyou're using it and I'm going todemonstrate those for you the first timeyou open it up you kind of want to gothrough every one of the screensanswering the questions as you go forexample right now this is set to do somebasic splits and if I go down hit thenext button which gives me moreinformation more questions basically andanother button with more questions thananother button and another buttonand each one of those I would have tofill out specific answers to certainquestions and then finally hit finishand it does what it does but once you'veused it and you've set it up to do whatyou want then all you have to do reallyis it's just a matter of opening it upand immediately hitting the Finishbutton so it's a one-click operationafter that going further you can savepresets so for me again I have two orthree things that I use this for all thetime so I simply have to open it up goto my specific preset I want hit finishand it's done so let's go through someof the things it'll do when you openthis up the first thing you're given isto make a choice between the active clipor all selected Clips those are prettyobvious choices but in case there's anyconfusion the active clip would again belike this one that we're looking behindus that's all white on the other hand ifI had multiple clips in this Montage Icould be having 20 different clips andmaybe five of them I wanted to processwith this Auto split I would selectthose and then I would say the allselected Clips but let's continue withthe active clip for now so I'm going tohit next and now you're given your firstreal choice that you have to makebecause it's giving you basically fivedifferent completely different jobs thatit can do here from the top it can splitit according to markers it can split itat specific intervals it can find thesilences in a clip it could split it atdifferent beats or it can cut off thehead and the tail let's go from the topI'm going to hit split according tomarkers now before I do that I'm goingto exit out of here because I have tohave some markers now we've talked aboutmarkers but just in case let's go backto the basics for a second and for thiswe want to go to the insert taband you're given all these differentcolored different markers and if youhold your mouse over them it kind oftells you what they are you have genericmarkers and ones for CD markers andregion markers and on and on and onlet's just do a simple example first I'mgoing to put my cursor here on thesilent part I'm going to go up and clickwhere it says generic marker hit thatand above the cursor here let's put alittle marker I'm going to do the samething I'm going to go over to this emptyarea of silence and I'll go up and I'llhit another generic markerso I have now I have two differentmarkers splitting this clip Up of coursea clip isn't split yet it's just a clipwith markers on it so going back to myprocess tab thing with the active clipgoing to next making sure I've got thelittle radio button on the splitaccording to markers hit next and nowwe're given another Choice with a dropdown list which basically shows you allthe different kinds of markers let'sjust go ahead and take our genericmarker like we've used going to the nextscreen we have some more choices to makedo I want to make more markers or do Iwant to split it or remove silent I'mgoing to go to split here and we'regoing to leave these defaults moving onto the next page talks about how to nameit we'll just leave those and then I hitfinish so now I go to my clip and I haveone clip here which is completelyindependent I have another clip herecompletely independent and I have myfirst clip so with one motion everythinggot split now I'm going to control Z outof this for a minute to where I'm backto just one big clip but I'll still keepthe markers in place now I hit the autosplit it again I don't even really haveto go to next but I'm going to go tonext just for the heck of it here I'mjust going to go ahead and hit finishand that's it everything is split againso if you don't touch anything betweenone process to the other and you justopen that screen up you can just hitfinish and you can repeat the sameprocess over and over so then you havethese selection markers like the regularmarkers except for they have a marker atthe beginning and end of a selection andagain there's various ones that areavailable here you have cd ones and loopones and exclusion markers and all thesethings but the basic idea is that you'llput a marker at the beginning and theend so let's do one let's do this CDtrack one so that now it has put a redmarker at the beginning and end of theselection so now when we go to our Autosplit and we go through our active clipand we keep going split according tomarkers and again we want to pick thekind of markers we're using so we wantto look for the CD markers right herelet's go ahead and hit next to see whatother options we havewe'll keep it on split we'll takedefault names for the moment hit finishand what that does is it crops offeverything on the outside of theselection and then moves the selectionto the beginning of the track but thenthere's another option here let mecontrol Z out of this and again we'llleave the markers in place in theselection go back to our Auto split gonextkeep it split according to markers butnow when we get to our markers and we'llleave the CD markers in the drop downyou have this option to invert theregions a little bit of checkbox so I'mgoing to hit that and what that's goingto do instead of taking off thebeginning and the end and leaving themiddle is going to cut the middle outand leave the beginning and the endlet's do this hit finish and there we gowe have two separate clips and they putthem together at the beginning of thetrack but it cropped off the middle partlet's go ahead and set this up as apreset go through our basic settingsmake sure the ones we want I'm going toleave the invert regions on there so I'mgo down the little drop down hit save asI'll call this invert click save I'mgoing to go ahead and close this out forthe momentso now that I have a preset we can seejust how nice these things are we'll goahead and select my clip hit my autosplit if I already did this operation asecond ago I don't have to really doanything I can just hit finish but incase I did something else I would checkmy drop down of presets make sure I havethe right preset and then I just hitfinish and that's it all those steps arenow complete I don't have to go throughfive different pages and it has splitthis clip took out the middle parteverything so let's talk about where itmoves the clips to when it splits them aminute ago we saw that when this clipwas way at the beginning and it split itit moved everything towards thebeginning of the track but what is itreally doing what it really does let'sdo the example and we'll see here I'vemoved this clip to where it's exactly at40 seconds here on the timeline I'mgoing to go ahead and make a selectionput a CD selection marker on here goback and do my auto split go throughthese options real quick split accordingto markers CD track markers yes I wantthose I'm going to leave the invertregion off I'll go ahead and hit itfinish and obviously it's moved it itdidn't move it all the way to thebeginning but what did it do it moved itright to the 42nd so what it's doing isevery time it makes a split wherever theclip actually starts all the pieces ofthe clip will be put together and put atthe beginning of where that clip startedand there you go as usual if you haven'tgrabbed your navigation guide be sure tograb that before you go there's links toall the content on the channel evergrowing and free to use so do you usethe auto split if you don't you reallyneed to try it it's going to make lifeeasier for you and if you use it wellwe're going to continue to go through itthere's a few more things to break downin terms of understanding all of itsoptions typically I always bring a songin from Cubase which always has somekind of space on the end in thebeginning of the file itself and I usedto just sit there manually trying tofigure out you know by zooming in andcutting off the pieces once you startusing the auto split you hit the buttonone time and all the extra stuff issliced off you will not not go back onceyou're used to using itall right as always great to have youguys here see you in the next video
