Audio Part Editor in Cubase
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today let's talkabout the audio part editor in Cubasebut before we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so what is the audio parteditor it's another way to deal withaudio in Cubase in other videos welooked at the sample editor if I takethis piece of audio and I double clickon it this is the sample editor whichwe've been looking at in other videosbut what is the audio part editor inorder to see the audio part editor youhave to have an audio part and there'san option when you go up to your audiomenu if you come down it says eventsdepart and that'll change your basicaudio event into an audio part when Idouble click on this now this is what'scalled the audio part editor and there'sjust other things we can do in the audiopart editor so let's explore this one ofthe first things to do is we canaudition our parts we go up to the playtool on the right here we can use ourlittle speakerand we can just click anywhere we wantwe can hear our part we can switch overto the scrub tool and do basically thesame thing but for smaller partsforwards and backwardsup in the right there's a lower Arrow ifI want to change it down into the lowerZone and do the same thing or an upperArrow if I want to bring it back intoits own window so once we're in theaudio part editor we have our usualspots we have a toolbar up on top wehave an info line below that and then wehave our ruler which you can right clickon the ruler and get all kinds ofoptions but right away if you haven'tseen me do this yet anytime I have atoolbar I like to set this up becausethere's so many buttons on the toolbarI'm going to go to the setup you justright click on a blank area of thetoolbar go over to the option that saysvisible items take the top option pullthe shift hit the bottom option drag allthese over to the hidden options andthen create a preset where it says savepresetwhich I call none n-o-n-e hit OK and nowmy toolbar is empty up on top if I rightclick there's always an option that saysreset all it gives me all the defaultbuttons that were there before but I canalso quickly right click now and go tonone and I can clear all those buttonsout so I have a more organized option interms of figuring out what buttons arewhat so let's add some buttons in thesolo button preview the auto scroll toolbuttons nudge and snap a key commandthat I like to use all the time go editkey commands type in play selection andan option comes up that says play theselected range add the alternate spacebar assigned to that because of that Ican make a selection or multipleselections hit alt and spacebar and Ican immediately audition those sectionswhen you hit your space bar you'll hearyour project and whatever is in theaudio part editoryou go over and hit the solo button thenyou only hear what's in the audio parteditoryou can go to this play button if youmake a selection hit the play buttonyou have an audition Loop button if youwant to play over and over again andthat applies to multiple selections[Music]you have a volume control to set theaudition level you have your auto scrolloptions when the auto scroll is on youcan always see the cursor because if Iturn the auto scroll off the cursor cango off the screen you have the suspendauto scroll when editing option whatthat means is if things are playing andI make some kind of selection or thenthe scrolling will stop while I make myedits you have your usual tools youroptions for changing the Grid or link tothe grid you have your typical nudgeoptions if you hit these buttons you cansee this left area moveroll back on the right side you can dothe same thing or you can actually movethe clip back and forth I'm going tobring up the multiple power controls theevent colors the independent track Loopthe window Zone controls whenever youhave an event you have these eventborder markings up here if we go to showpart borders and click that we can turnthose off we have the option to edit allour parts or edit only the active partand then if we have more than one partopen you can select those we can changethe colors of different selectionsyou have the option to turn on thisindependent track Loop which allows youto create a loop part over variousmeasures this part will just continue toLoop you can bring everything back intothe lower Zone if you want the link thatputs things together with the projectanother button if you want to go back tothe full windowand then you have this gear for thetoolbar which is really the same as justright clicking on an empty spot so I'mgoing to take a couple of Loops herebring them into the projectthank youand I can select all three of theseLoops at one time double click open themin the sample editor select each eventthat I want to work on then go over onthe left and say create slices and whatthat does is it makes every one of theseaudio events into audio parts so I don'thave to go events to part of that extrastep so now I'm going to select them allagain double click on them and now Ihave my audio parts in the audio parteditor if I go back to the project for aminute I'm going to line them all upthen reopen them and with each audiopart you have the main part and then youhave a lane below it so if I take anyone of these parts and I drag it downit takes it to the next Lane and I cando that with any one of these parts Ican move it to a lane below it in anyway I want I can go up to the one aboveit grab it move it to a different Laneat this point I could mix and match ormove my slices around any way I wantbasically totally changing my loop I cancome up with my play Tool and I canaudition my partsand then if I want to start affectingthese slices I can actually do differentthings to them like if I right click orholding control I can come up to anoption like this that says processesmaybe I want to reverse a certain sliceI can create a sampler track with anyone of these pieces[Music]so there's a lot of room forexperimentation on what you can do withthis audio part editor anytime you'reworking in these editors if you're usingthe default settings when I hit myspacebar I'll be hearing the project inthe background there's a great littleoption here if you're going to be usingthe editors a lot go to edit to mypreferences and I go down my list till Isee transport you have this option thatsays playback toggle triggers the localpreview but check that hit apply nowwhen I hit my spacebar I'm able tocontrol and stop what's in the editoritself I won't hear the project unless Igo back to the project view keybase usedto have a plugin that was called Loopmatch and it basically allows you totake pieces of loops and mix them andmatch them in different ways in manyways you can do that with this audiopart editor if I take all these partsnow and mute them with my mute tool nowI'm going to unmute some of these partsI'll just make some various selectionsto start with I'm opening it back up inthe project window to audition it butthen I have something like this[Music]so basically I can make these kind ofloop mesh Loops if I want which thenallows me to make these different kindsof combination of loops and that's goingto wrap it up for today as always if youhaven't grabbed your navigation guide besure to grab that from the link belowthis video gives you a quick easy accessto all the content on the channel evergrowing free to use content is in orderbeing continually updated do yourself afavor click on that link save it to yourfavorites and enjoy all the quick easytutorials that are there that helpdemonstrate all these different featuresthat we're talking about so we had alook at the audio part editor basicallyjust another way of dealing with youraudio and Cubase you have your sampleeditor you can do work in the projectand you can do work in the audio parteditor just different ways to approachaudio and how you want to affect thingswe talked about it changing your eventsto parts we slice some things up in thesample editor opened them up in theaudio editor we looked at the toolbar wesaw how we can move parts to thedifferent Lanes as we continue to movethrough all the features and functionsin Cubase as always it's great to haveyou guys here and I'll see you on thenext video
