Audio Effects V3 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we moveon to our third video as we continuediscussing audio effects in Cubase butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the contentnavigation guide which is an easy tonavigate web page with links to all thecontent on this channel and besides thatin the near future I'm going to beginadding tips and other bits ofinformation that will only be availablethere if you're working with programslike wavelab or q-based plugins or thecable guide shaper and many many otherprojects that are in the works then Iknow you're going to find just like Ihave that this is an invaluable studyAid and the other thing I want to makesure you understand is that this is nota simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youokay so let's get started so we've beentalking about audio effects for a whilelet's start off by looking at some ofthe fun and interesting ways to addeffects into a project when you'relooking at the project window you canalways right click in the TrackInspector area and you have the optionsto add tracks in here but also at thevery top left there's a little plus signthis is like a global ad track dialogueand you're going to see all yourdifferent kinds of tracks in here maysee a little diamond for more tracks andall your drop down choices for addingstuff but in this list you'll see onethat says FX it stands for an effectstrack and you can click on that pickyour effect pick your configuration youroutputs you want it inside the folderoutside the folder and then give it aname if you want to add more than oneyou can change the count right here andhit add track another way that's a realquick way to get an effect going pickany one of your tracks and locate thetab that says send you can actuallyright click in that slot somewhere atthe bottom you'll have an option to addan effect click on that you get asmaller version of the screen we werejust looking at fill it out with youreffect all the other stuff you want fontgive it a name and add the trackimmediately that track populates thesend area at that point you can justchange the level on the effect andyou're good to go now a couple of thingsthat are interesting on these sendeffects at any point on the send effectyou can right click and you can go downto where it says edit the effect whichgives you a quick way to get to youreffect to change any settings on theeffect itself and another thing thatI've done since qbase offers so manydifferent mixers if you go up to yourstudio tab you have your main mixer andyour mix two and mix three and mix Fournow with any mixer that you have in viewyou can go over and filter the differentChannel types that you see and if Iknock all of these out of here and forexample pick the effects channels then Ican immediately see what effectschannels I have and I can get to themvery quickly if I take it a step furtherand assign a shortcut to these mixerswhich I've done I can just hit myshortcut keys and I can quickly bring upmy effects channels which allows me toedit them get to them quick change theirlevels whatever I want to do and thenhit the shortcut key and remove that ifyou want more information on setting upyour mixers like that watch the videoseries on mixers in qbase it's listed inthe navigation guide you have someoptions that are different in the mixerthan they are on the tracks in the mixerI have the option to select multipletracks I can right click on thosemultiple tracks and at that point I canadd an effects channel to those selectedtracks if I try to do that in theproject list there's no option to add aneffect like that when you open up achannel on a track you have the sendsover here on the right you can hit thedrop down and you can send your track toany of the effects that you set up in anearlier video we talked about pre andpost settings over on the insertsettings you have the same situation onyour send effects when you put in effectin the send list first of all you havethe option to turn it on or off butyou'll notice these different colors andthere's a button that stands for the preor post fader setting first of all letme show you what the difference isbetween the pre and post when it comesto ascend both of these effects are anidentical room Works Reverb the firstone is in the preposition turn theeffectupand then I turn the faderdown I can still hear the effect the drysignal goes down but the effect is stillaudible I turn this effect down if I goto the Post fader which is the sameeffect turn itup but now turn the faderdown both the effect and the originalaudio turn down it can be very confusingto figure out which one is pre and whichone is post when you look at the littlesymbol you get a dialogue screen thatshows up and it tells you pread or sendgives you some other dialogue tellingyou how you can change it to post veryfirst thing it says it tells you thatit's the preader if I go to this nexteffect and I hover over it the firstthing it says is post fader if you keepthat in mind that you get a dialogue asyou're learning your way and what thesedifferent colors may represent it tellsyou plainly in the dialogue if it's apreader or a post fader and here's oneyou may not have realized or used beforeif I turn the effectup at the bottom I actually have a tabfor panning and I can now pan thateffect you'll only hear this if you haveheadphones on but now the Reverb is totheleft or the Reverb is to theright another option that happens withthe panning you'll notice that if I hitthe Panner of the channel it worksindependently but if I come up and hitthe drop down and go down to link thepanners now if I change the channelPanner it also changed the effectsPanner keep in mind we're using sendeffects in this situation I'm adjustingthe individual Ascend effect goes withthis channel maybe I want to bring themdown just a little bit I could go to theactual effect itself and I could lowerthat effect by its fader which woulddecrease the amount of effect on allthose channels we looked at this in aprevious video If we go up to Studiodown to more options and then the systemcomponent information in previous videoswe looked at the extensions but you havethese other tabs for Midi plugins andaudio codec one of the advantages ofthis screen especially in the mid midiarea if you have midi plugins that youdon't want to see you can go throughthis list and uncheck things that youdon't want showing up you won't actuallysee the changes until you restart Cubasedepending on how you have that list setfor example if I go over to MIDI insertsand I hit the drop down list whatevereffects I have in this list I can hidethem or show them depending on what I'vechecked off there we've talked aboutloading various presets one thing tonotice is when you look at the inserttab it's almost kind of a hidden buttonbut over here on the right you have apreset management button when you hitthat gives you the option to loadeffects chains and track presets let'sload up an effects chain for a second Ican hit category to sort things out I'mgoing to go to the bottom of the listand look at some of these vocal presetswhen I click on one of these I get thislong list of all these various inserts astudio EQ a tube compressor on and onand these are great to check out andexperiment with one tip of the day Iwant to pass on sometimes you want toget rid of these once you put them inand you can sit here and go through thelist one at a time and hit no effect butbut if you take a second add an audiotrack just an empty one go to the inserttab on that track go to that button andgo to save the effects chain preset giveit a name called empty no preset and hitokay and then anytime when you havesomething like this with seven differenteffects and you want to just get rid ofthem you can go back to your button goto load the effects chain and then justtype in empty which will bring up thepreset you just created when you clickon that it wipes all those effects outat one time other options to be aware ofyou can copy and paste if I go to thisroom Works in my mixer and I right clickI can say copy the room works whateverthe setting is it'll copy it if I goover to this room works and right clickI can then paste it onto this one andthen the last thing I want to show youis probably one of the most usefulthings that I've started doing latelyand that's the option to be able to saveany one of your effects as a defaultpreset the idea here being you cancreate whatever kind of effect settingthat you want like on this Reverb Icould set the level the mix then I canright click on the effect and go downthere's an option that says defaultpreset and when I hit that I have asubmenu one of the options is save it asthe default preset which means everytime this effect opens now it's going tohave these settings I can reset it or Ican remove the default preset but atypical example of this has been souseful I'm a big fan of this Ott pluginthe original effect settings on thishave this depth knob turned all the wayup so anytime I would open up thiseffect this depth level is all the wayup at 100% And if I'm actually playingmy song and I'm adding effects as theproject is playing I would open thiseffect up and always get blown away bythe level being too loud and the soundbeing overcompressed by taking advantageof this fantastic default preset all Ihad to do was turn this depth level allthe way down to zero right click on thiseffect and then tell it to save it asthe default preset now anytime I'm in myproject and I decide to use this and Iopen it up always opens up with thisknob died all the way down to zero atthat point I can begin to start bringingit in hear the effect it's having on mysound and it's just a great feature soif you're you're not using the optionfor a default preset think about thenext time you bring an effect into yourproject it's something you use a lotwhat would you like it to be every timeyou open it up and take advantage ofthat feature you will never go backwithout that and that's going to wrap upour discussion on audio effects asalways if you haven't already be sure tograb your copy of the digital audiomanual content navigation guide from thelink below the faster better way tolearn and review pick it up look it overall the different topics that aregathered there and then you too can getstarted on your path to a better way tolearn all this stuff today we finishedup talking about adding the effectstracks can add them right into the sendslots we saw how we can add effects tomultiple tracks routing the channelsends again the pre and post but on theeffect sends we got into the panningdiscussion how we can Pan the effects wesaw the list of the system componentinformation we looked at adding presetshow we can copy and paste the effectsettings and then we ended up talkingabout the default preset a fantasticfeature anytime you're using effects andwe'll continue this path because welearn all the different features andfunctions in cuase as always it's greatto have you guys here and I'll see youon the next[Music]video
