Arranger Track V2 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our second video as we discuss thearranger track in Cubase but before westart I want to remind you that there'sa link below to the free contentnavigation guide which is an easy tonavigate webpage with links to all thecontent on this channel and besides thatin the near future I'm going to beginadding tips and other bits ofinformation that will only be availablethere you know things like simple stepsthat will get you started and up andrunning quick things that are in thevideos but are written down in simplesteps that serve as quick reminders whenyou need information down the road ifyou're working with programs likewavelab or Cubase plugins or the cableguys shaper Box 2 and many many otherprojects that are in the works then Iknow you're going to find just like Ihave that this is an invaluable studyAid and the other thing I want to makesure you understand is that this is nota simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime 10 videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we're on this discussionof the arranger track and we weretalking about it in the last video inthat previous video and all videos arein the navigation guide in the linkbelow but we want to lead off todaytalking about some of these repeat modesthat are available in the arranger trackand what that's all about if wehighlight our Ranger track we go to thisedit button open up this arranger editoras we said before on the right we haveall the events that we've created aswe've been making a song and once youget some parts and you want to get afeel for your song and how things aregoing to go you can click and drag theseparts over here onto the left side makesure you activate your arranger trackand then hit your space barand these Pirates will play now theywill play depending on how the mode isset if you look on these columns and wemove over in my case I have about threecolumns over it says mode or in thiscase it actually says mod because themode is cut off but you get the idea ifyou go down into this column and youclick with your mouse you're given threechoices the normal the repeat foreverand the pause after repeats and speakingof repeats let me just show you thisreal quick let's say I have this part Aand I have it set to repeat one timethere's a number of ways I can come overhere and drag it to get more of the apart in here and repeat it more timesbut you can also just click right on thenumber one here in the repeat column andin my case I can take my mouse wheel andI can just start spinning this up twothree four whatever I want in this caseit went up to 10 different times so Ican just spin it as much as I want letme put two different times in here andthen when I click anywhere else in thewindow I get these little counter blocksthat tells me that's going to play twotimes so you can just add parts and makethem play as many times as you want sogoing back to the mode if I go to thisfirst part and I click on this modecolumn right now it's set to normal sothat means this is going to play justlike it shows here in the order thatit's in if I take this second option itsays repeat forever I'm going to clickon that one kind of changes the icon tosome kind of little Double Arrow andwhat that means is when I start playingthe song this first part is just goingto play over and over and over againuntil I tell it to do somethingdifferent how do I tell it to dosomething different I just click on theArrow of another part so while this oneis playing if I click on the next partonce it finishes one of the final timesit goes through this it'll move onbefore we do that let's look at theseother options if I go to my a part thenext part here I've got it repeating twotimes if I look in the mode column andclick on thisI have another option that says pauseafter the repeats I'm going to choosethat option what that means is it'sgoing to go through the two times andthen it's going to stop for me forwhatever reason you know this is allexperimentation and trying to figure outhow I want my song to play but right nowwe just want to learn what these optionsdo and then if I go to this final optionthis B sectionand I click on this and I say keep thatone normal which I will I'll keep on thenormal one what that'll do it'll playthrough that so let's give it a shot sowe're at the beginning it's going toplay forever so I hit my space barit's gonna go over and over and overagain this little introso I can listen to it I can decide howmany times I want it you know whateverworks for me now once I'm ready to moveon I click this next lineand when it finishesthere it goes into the next part and nowthe next part is going to play two timesbecause it has two repeats so let's LetIt repeatit's on the second repeat and that'sgoing to pause when it finishes[Music]foreignand there it is and it'll stay that wayuntil I hit the space bar and when I hitthe space barit will begin the beep sectionit'll play the B section[Music]and that's it it'll finish my songand now just a little side note fromexperience I'm going to share this withyou too if you have your transport downhere set to repeat this would just keepgoing over and over again through yoursections of your song so be aware if youwant this to truly act the way you'resetting it up and doing it with thesemodes keep your repeat off down on yourtransport bar okay so now this brings usto the option finally of flattening thechain and what flattening the chainmeans is that you know anything you haverepeating or the way that Parts bouncearound in the chain it will now take allthose and put them one after the otherin your project like that's the way youactually built your project and it willreplace any other chainor any configuration you may have put inthere the reason you flatten your chainis because as long as it stays as anarranger track chain you really can'trender it off anywhere else outside ofCubase as long as it stays in Cubase youcan play your arranger track however youwant but when you try to make a copy andtake it out into the real world TheBouncing Around of the different partsand the repeats and all that won't getrecognized until you flatten the chainso that's where it brings us to thisoption now I've created three differentchains here one has my full mix one if Iclick on it just a little 30 second mixwhich only has a few parts with theending and another one's a little 45second mix which has a few parts and anending each one of these uses slightlydifferent parts and slightly differentorderso again if I wanted to use these orsend these to somebody I have toactually flatten this chain and thenbounce it out into some kind of audioexportlet me do one just to kind of give you arough idea of what's going on and whenyou flatten the chain at least on mysystem it takes a minute or two so it'snot an immediate process so don't be tooshocked by that so if you can see it upon top my original song I have likeroughly five six different parts up hereof different colors but in the new partthat I'm making a little 30 secondbounce there's only three parts here youcan see it over on the left so when Ihit this flattened chain button I'mgoing to go ahead and do that you cannow see up here on the top and theproject there's only three little Partsleft it's cleared off here on the leftwhat the a ranger track was because it'snow flattened it out and bounced itbasically and over here on the right ithas what parts are left and that'sanother thing you have to be aware of isthat when you flatten the chain if youdon't include your parts they basicallyget erased sometimes that's a good thingsometimes that's a shocking thing so beaware of that and know what you're doingnow I'm going to control Z out of thisbecause no harm done until I've saved myproject so now what we want to do isexamine what options we have when weflatten this chain and they give usquite a few options at this point youhave to hit this little gear here on theright if you look up on top there's adrop down list so if you've created morethan one chain you're able to choose itin the drop down list you can just pickwhatever you want below that now once wehit this gear you have three options asfar as the choice of the source you canflatten out the current chain which isthe one that's picked in this list uphere if you have created more than onechain and you go to this checked chainoption you can then go on the right hereand check which particular chains youwould like to bounce out or flatten outand then if you just want to pick all ofthem you just hit all the chains now thenext important thing to understand is itwill never bounce more than one chaininto one project because the arrangertrack there's only one arranger trackallowed per project so even if you checkall of these chains and say I want allthree of these what it's going to do isit's actually going to create threeseparate projects and move those chainsinto their own respective project youcan tell that by going over to thedestination because it Grays outeverything and checks new project youhave no choice you have to go to newproject on the other hand if you staywith the current chain option you candecide if you want to do it into thecurrent project or into a new projectwhen it goes into a new project you haveoptions to change the name you know oradd a number to the name if you want todo something like that and then you havethese pretty important options here onthe right these are choices youdefinitely want to know what you'redoing when you make these choices youhave the option first up to keep thearranger track if you don't check thatwhatever project whether it's thiscurrent one or a new one if you don'tcheck that it will create the projectand make all your changes but it'll haveno more a ranger track the ranger trackwill get deleted or erased me personallyI always keep my arrange a track thenext option says to rename the arrangerevents as you make different chains ifyou're using the same events if youcheck this it's going to give each oneof those events different names I findthis to be kind of more information thanI want I usually leave this uncheckedbecause if I want to rename my parts Irename them myself but you have thatoption the next option can be veryconfusing and you want to understandwhat it's saying here it says make realevent copies what's happening here whenyou make a chain and bounce These Chainsoff or flatten These Chains out let'ssay I make a chain where I keep a coupleof versions right here in the sameactual chain itself where I keep myversion of maybe my verse and my chorusand then I make another chain rightafter it where I put just the A and Bpart when it finally flattens the chainout all these little parts that arebelow the chain if they're being usedagain further down the line in the otherchain it just keeps using the same partagain and you can verify that byclicking on it and looking up in theinfo and you will see that the nameRemains the Same no matter how manytimes you click on your different partit's still the same part they use overand over again which uses up a lot lessstorage space in the end on the otherhand if you go down and click this thingthat says make real event copieseven though it's the same part beingused over and over again when they makethe chain they will create all brand newparts of your existing song and that'sgood if you want to start making somekind of variation on the parts but itstarts using up a lot of space Ipersonally leave that unchecked the nextoption also very important says don'tsplit the events I typically leave thisunchecked if you check this then it willonly keep whatever is actually in thepart and then these last two options arewhen you actually say a new project youcan either have Cubase open the newprojects or if there's multiple projectsit'll Cascade the new project so you cansee them in the window easier again I'llgive you my recommendations of what Itypically do I usually have the currentchain checked I usually have the currentproject checked I always have to keep aranger track checked and that's prettymuch my choices at that point I'll hitflat in the chain and whatever choicesI've made in terms of building my songthere will be and then one more thingthat can consider actually when you'reworking with your arranger track youhave an option over here on the left inthe inspector area there's a thing downhere called the jump mode and you havevarious options hereand these are for well you could eitheruse this in terms of playing your Rangertrack live in real time or again it's achance for you to hear how your songgoes and experiment with differentoptions so your choice is down here if Iclick this drop down list and I say noneas the First Choice and then I hit oneof the arrows next to a part that partstarts to playand if I hit an arrow next to anotherpart it immediately starts to playso I can kind of jump around my songJust clicking different parts[Music]you know and just get a feel for thesong that way if I take this choice thatsays n at the bottom of this it has tofinish the part is playing before it'llgo to the next part so I'm going toclick the next part nothing happensthen when it finishes it jumps to thenext partand then all the rest of these are justbasically variations on that for exampleif I go to one that says one bar it'sgot to play one bar of the sectionbefore it goes to the next part I pickso again these are things depending onjust to give you a live feel of it allif I go to Four Bars it's got tocomplete four different buyers beforeit'll make a jumpand then there's one other option thatallows you to arrange music to video I'mgoing to recommend you consult themanual if you're interested in somethinglike that it requires synchronization ofyour midi tracks to a video setup andyou'd have to have the specificequipment to take advantage of that asalways if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatbefore you go as links to all thecontent on this channel ever growingfree to use and again I say that if youaren't using the arranger track youreally want to give it a try it can leadyou to a whole different world in termsof starting and completing your songssometimes it gives you just that littleextra momentum that allows you tocomplete things you might not completeotherwiseas always great to have you guys heresee you in the next video
