hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we move onto our third video as we continuediscussing additional techniques fordesigning your score in Cubase butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so we're on the third videonow on the series of designing yourscore and previous videos and all videosfor this channel are always in thenavigation guide in the link below butin the last video we kind of ended uptalking about these multi-bar rests andwe're going to talk a little bit moreabout how we can customize these interms of their appearance we talkedabout how in this example we have allthese rests with no notes of any kind wejust select one of these rests we can goover to this properties area and hit theconsolidate and turn it up to one andimmediately it changes the view to thesemulti-bar rests where in this case it'sshowing 24 bars of rest and down hereit's showing eight bars down here it'sshowing four bars well once we've donethat now we can start changing the waythis looks if we want to I'm going to goover here and select this as an activestaff I'm going to go up to my scores tomy settings the first set of options ifI go to this project Tab and then thenotation style there's actually acategory on the right that saysmulti-bar rests and you have two optionsdown here one says Church style if Icheck that off and hit apply these kindof bracket bars get split up into thesekind of individual bars so it justdepends on what you like and how youwant to see it personally I like to keepthat one unchecked the other option isdo you want your numbers above or belowthese things you have an option thatsays numbers above symbols if we checkthat hit apply now our numbers stayabove the bracket again totally yourchoice if we move down the list down tothe left and go to spacings we haveoptions for multi-bar settings one isfor the height and one is for the widthhow wide you want it to be let's changeit right now it says 32 I can click onit spin it with my mouse bump it up to48 hit apply and now you can see thatbracket has gotten wider if I go to theheight and I click on that and spin thatwith my mouse if I want I'm going to putit up to 11 hit apply and now I havethese big solid blocks then you have onemore option if you go to the fontsettings and again you have these twotabs attribute sets or project text ifyou go on the project text tab you cancome down and select the drop down formulti-bar rests and at that point youcan just pick a font whatever you wantwhatever is available on your systemI'll just pick one of these hit applyand then the number is kind of above itgives me a totally different look if youwant to break some of these multi-barrests up all you have to do is doubleclick on it and you'll get a dialog tosplit and you can basically say whateveryou want say I want to split this aftereight bars I can click on here and sayeight hit OK and it'll change that multiby rest into eight and the remainingbuyers will go after it if you want toremove these splits at some point youcan go up to the visibility bar and hitthe split rest option and then you'llget a dialog here that says split restwhich you can click on and hit yourbackspace and that'll return it back toits original state so sometimes you wantto create what's called a pickup barwhere you have what looks like a bar butit doesn't have all the you know stuffin it and the music doesn't really startuntil the next bar in this example thisfirst bar says number one and this barsays number two and this first bar hasrest if you click on this rest you cango to the option to hide and show itwhich gets it out of there then you canclick on these bar numbers and offset itby one or whatever you need actually butone for this example and now it showsthe number zero for this little pickupbar and then it doesn't actually starttill Bar number one hereso now let's talk about the auto layouttwo ways to open up the auto layout goto your Scores menu come down to whereit says Auto layout click on it or onthis extended toolbar in this middlearea here about four buttons overthere's a button that says Auto layoutyou can click on that either one opensup this dialog all right so let's changesome things around and move these barlines around kind of Squish them in makeeverything a little bit different fromwhere it was so now if I go up and hitthe auto layout button I have thesevarious options on these selected radiobuttons here and if I take the first onethat says move the bars and then I hitOK before I do that watch the bars overhere on the left what's going to happenis they're going to space themselves outso if I hit OK what it tries to do isfind how to make each bar or so that ithas the most space possible for what'sin the bar so that's your first choicewith the auto layout and then we like wetalked about before you can actuallymove staffs around so like if I havethis staff really stretched out likethis then my next option on the autolayout of my bring it up I have thebutton that says move the staffs when Ihit this it'll try to make the bestspacing on the staffs it canon the next option as you can see onthis piece of music I have all my statsbut then I have this big open space downhere if I go back to the auto layout andI choose the option that says spread thepage what this is going to try to do isfill out the page all the way so if Ihit ok now I have my music kind ofspread over the whole pageon this page I have a lot of redundancybecause I have staffs with rests andthen more stats with rests if I go to mynext option on the auto layout choosesone that says hide the empty staffs andI hit OK it tries to find anythingthat's just kind of redundant orcompletely empty and remove it this isanother option that shows up when youhit the hide button up here if you havethat hide option selected you can comedown hit hide backspace bring whateverstaffs are hidden back into view as youcan see here there's a lot of rests ifwe come down to our next option thatsays move bars and stabs kind of housecleaning and everything just getsconsolidatedthen the next option you have here saysoptimize all if you click on that sayokay in my case on this score it made itsomething I probably would never use butdepending on your score that could bejust the answer probably and especiallyif there's lots of pages and lots ofinformation if I leave it on thisoptimize all and then I look at the nextoption below at the auto space the pagemode right now mine is set at eight andthat's the default if I spin thisbackwards into a negative number let'ssay way down to like negative 100 then Ihit OK you'll find that it takes objectsfrom down the score and tries to squeezeeverything as much as it can in thebeginning whereas if I do just theopposite and I spin this up to like apositive 100 hit okay you'll find thatthere's a lot of space and everythinggets stretched out if you work withthese options in here you start changingthem around you can always hit defaultand then it puts you back on the basicsettings every one of these otheroptions can be changed the numbers canbe raised or lowered I'll let youexperiment see the different results ifyou do any of these each one will giveyou a different spacing betweendifferent elements you have anotheroption down here it says don't hide thefirst staff and this kind of applies tothe option up here that says hide theempty staffs if I have that checked likeI did before but then I say don't hidethe first staff when I say okay thingsare hidden but the very first grandstaff stays visible so if you've beenworking with the score for a while andyou've been moving everything around soif you've been messing around for awhile changing things and rearrangingand changing the bar sizes andeverything else and you just want to getback to square one if you go back up toscores come down almost at the bottomyou have a reset layout of course atthat point you can check or uncheckwhatever you want and you can say thisstaff are all staffs I'm just going toleave everything here hidden notes andeverything that I've done I'm going tosay yeah change all staffs and typicallyyou'll get your score back to square oneagain if you want to change some basicsizes on a particular staff if youactivate that as the active staff openup your settings and down here you havean option that says the system sizes youhave an option that says size and that'sat 100 if I spin that up to let's say200 and then I hit apply you can seeit's made that staff much bigger if youwant to change all the staff sizes goover to the layout tab and then you havean option down here that says the samething with size and if I spin that downlet's say 50 hit apply the whole scoregets smaller when it comes to Bar linesyou can go over to your properties andhit any of these options to change howyour bar lines are with repeats anddifferent sizes like that or at any timeyou can double click on a bar line anddo the same thing some of these like therepeat sign is completely flat at thetop but if you check this option it saysbrackets you get this little curved lineat the top and bottom and closing it ina bracket one other option to look at ifyou select a bar line you have an optionover here in the project settings itsays old Coral style and that switchesthese into these double dots uncheckthat to remove it and that completes allthe information on our additionaltechniques as always if you haven'tgrabbed our navigation guide be sure tograb that from the link below gives youaccess to all the content on thischannel ever growing and free to usetoday we looked at the multi better restsettings continued what we've startedbefore we talked about double clickingthis split the rest dialogs visibilitybars split rests some pickup bar optionsand then we dug into the auto layoutoptions that's a lifesaver when you needsome kind of Baseline to your scorethere's a few more things to talk aboutand get into but we have definitelyacquired a new skill set in terms ofunderstanding and using the score andwe'll be back to discuss more of ituntil the next time as always great tohave you guys here and I'll see you onthe next video
